Hello,
My name is SSG Ivan J. Alvira Mendez, son of Ivan Alvira Matos and Grandson of Ismael Alvira Castro. With the exception of my father who was born in NY we were all born in Puerto Rico. My Grandfather married Gloria Matos Santana of Ceiba. My grandfather’s family was from Barrio Obrero and Rio Grande, PR. He had several brothers and sisters but the only ones that I can remember of the top of my head were Roberto, Milagros, Carmen, Nori, Rosa, and Mercedes. There are more but those are the only names I can remember from my childhood. My self and my brother are the remaining heirs of the last name. Thankfully we both had son’s, which will keep our last name going. Being that our last name is so rare I have always been interested in our last names family History. I am currently deployed in Iraq so this would be a good project to take on, on my down time. As far as I know there are only two Alvira's in the entire U.S. Army.
