Alwins in Minnesota and Wisconsin

My Alwin relatives are looking for information about Andreas Alwin and the heritage before him. Andreas Alwin's son was Wilhelm or William who was born in area of Posen, Germany in 1825 and married Wilhelmena. They came to Milwaukee WI in 1854 and to Minnesota in 1855, where they had 8 girls and 1 boy. From there, we have accurate family history until the present. But we are looking for the background of Andreas Alwin from Posen area of Germany.

I checked with some of my family and John Allwin's father died when he was very little. His mother married a Brietzke when he was about 6-7 yrs old. Mr. Brietzke had some children and a son named Bill who married Mrs. Allwin's daughter, Lydia. (Step children married) Does any of this fit with your family?

What was your Great Grandfather's name, as well as your grandfather and fathers names? Your grandfather would have been either a half brother or step brother to my father-in-law I believe. He would have been over 100 years old. My mother-in-law is now 95 and he was a lot older than her. Thank you. GA

Thank you for replying. Please, if you have any more information, we would love to know. So, the Lydia who was married to your great grandfather, had a son and a daughter, John and Lydia? That is great. This is the closest I have found to finding out any information. Please keep in touch. My email address is GAllwinQB@aol.com. I do think that Aunt Lydia passed away in the 80's. Do you know anymore about her life or other family? Thanks. Gloria

Allwin family history

I am a daughter in-law to John David Allwin (9-12-1903/8-29-1960 in Laurel, MT. The families name originally only had one L in it - Alwin or Alvin. On the tombstone, it was written Alvin. We understand that in German, the v was pronounced w. My father-in-laws father was David Allwin married to Christine Hoff. They migrated from Germany to Russia and then back to Germany and to the U. S. We do not know anything about the family other than that. David is burried in Wimbleton, SD. John David ended up in North Dakota where his mother re-married. John had one sister, Lydia Brietzke from Minot, ND. We are looking for siblings, or cousins. Our family tree is a little short. John David, came to North Dakota as a very young man and worked there where he met my mother-in-law, Amanda Duda. They later came to Montana. We believe that so me David's family went to California but they were never heard from after that. There was question as to whether they may have died in the fire there in San Fancisco.

If you have any information, please contact me.
