I have AL(L)WOOD as a variant of my paternal line HALLWOOD and have been researching my family worldwide for about 20 years (on and off). Branches in US, Canada, Australia, S.Africa and loads of unconnected (H)AL(L)WOOD names in my index. My ancestral area (back to about 1620) seems to be in and around Chester-Liverpool-Warrington area of north west England. The dialect in that area drops the aspirant 'H' at the beginning of most words!! Parish register entries for members of the same family are (in earlier times) spelt variously Alwood/Alwod/Halwood/Hallwood etc. I
