The Indiana county of Dubois is not that far from northern KY. What part of KY did your Ambs live in and when?
My first PROBABLE Ambs was Xavier Francis Ambs b ca 1792? and died aft 1877 in PA. His son Francis X Ambs b 1815 in PA and died 1876 Dubois Co., IN.
Xavier Francis Ambs (b ca 1792?) is supposed to have had the following children: Nicholas b 1815 or 1822, George b 1822, Joseph b 1834, Lewis 1828, Mary 1840, and Frank G b 1851 -- although I have serious doubts about some of this history. Anyway, keep this family in mind as you search for your German family.
Best wishes. Sue
Yes. I would be a 5th or 6th cousin. I have researched the Ambs family for several years. I have Fridolin Ambs being born October 11 1876 in Boetzingen, Baden, Germany. He was the son of Fridolin and Agatha Brunner.
I would like to exchange information on the family. I have been working on the Ambs descendants in America and would greatly appreciate any information you can provide. I can be reached directly at pjmcgovern@comcast.net
Would you have a copy of your great grandfather's obituary?
Jim McGovern

Rosa C. Ambs

I'm looking for any information on Rosa Ambs and her family. Rosa was born on August 18, 1860 or 1861 in Oberschaffhausen near Boetzingen, Germany. She had two sisters named Eversena and Marianna. There mothers name is Marianna Mowl, the fathers name is Georg(e) Ambs. However, we found a Christening record that could be Rosa's that shows the mothers name as Anna Maria Moll at the LDS website. Eversena was married twice once to someone with a last name of Hecht and the second time to Anthony Klumpp. We found some papers at the local library for the Klumpp family that shows Rosa's mothers name as Marianna Mowl, we are not sure of the correct spelling of her name. We are not sure when Rosa immegrated to the United States but we did find a Rosa Ambs that arrived at the port of New Orleans in 1880. Rosa married John Daniel Cain on October 27, 1883 in Baldwin County Alabama. She died on January 10, 1926 and is buried at the Catholic cemetery in Mobile, Alabama. Rosa and John had ten children. We are trying to find anything we can on Rosa her sisters and parents, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ambs family connection?

Leaving this message for all of you. I'm not sure how much help this is but there was an Ambs in my family line. Frank Ambs married Maggie (Margaret)F. Doll, she was born 1877, d.1930. They had at least 2 children, one was named Joe. Maggie died in 1930 and my notes said that the youngest child was 12 when she died. I don't have much more than that. I'm trascing the Doll line. Good luck. Carol
