Thanks for the info Donna. I wish I had the opportunity to speak with my grandfather more about the family history. It's really quite interesting.

Do you know if Abram had any siblings? I found a possible connection to a James b. 1822 and possibly that his father was Abraham b. 1778 and mother Charity Sager. I can't locate children of Abraham and Charity either.

Hi Chris, I have a copy of the book and I got my copy from Gail a couple of years ago. I have lost contact with her. Abraham and Betsey were my Great great great Grandparents too I remember your Aunt Minnie when I was a little girl when I lived in Gillette many years ago she was my great great Aunt. My Grandfather what Chet Ameigh he lived in Gillette too and my Great Grandmother was Bessie Ameigh and she lived in Gillette too! If you have a facebook Gail's brother Michael Ameigh has facebook and he might know how to contact her. I do know that her and her husband sold their home and bought aa huge camper and they travel the US.I do know that Gail's Mom is still living and she lives in Maryland with Gail's older sister Truuke. If you google it Gail has put the book online too. Donna Ameigh Porter

Daniel and Minnie were my great grandparents. They had a son Walter that was my grandfather. So I guess that makes Abraham my great-great-great grandfather...Yikes! I saw a post from 2005 by Gail Ameigh who wrote a book called Ameighable Ancestors. Does anyone know where to find a copy?

Donna, It's the middle of the night and I can't sleep so I am searching on the net. I put in George Ameigh and found your conversation with Jennie Ameigh from Feb 2010. You said your grand father was George Chester Ameigh. My father was George Chester Ameigh Jr. I don't know hardly anything about my fathers family. I have searched out a bit of info tonight. I think your father may be my great grandfather because he too is buried in Gillett from what I found on the net. I'm wondering if you want to help fill in any of the blanks? Regards, Nancy Buckley

There are many variations of the EMIGH line. I always suggest that if you are researching the Emigh line in the State of New York, you should try to get the book "Settlers of the Beekman Patent" Vol. 4 by Frank Dougherty. He devotes a whole chapter on the Emigh family with lots of genealogy info. If your library can't get the book for your through inter-loan, ask if they can make copies of the e
Note: In the New York Census the name is listed as Ameigh. If you have any questions, contact me at embro1@home.com. Good Luck!

I'm so sorry that I haven't replied before now. I rarely check the message boards any more. Your father is my first cousin. Your grandfather Lewis Ameigh was my Uncle. My parents last home was bordered Bill Gardners property. I have Bill, James and Jerry in my data base. But I've never head of a sister. Your Grandfather was one of twelve children born to Ephriam (Vernon) & Virginia Ameigh. Lewis was the eighth child. I do have more, if your still interested. I did know my uncle better in my childhood than later in life. He was married three times to my knowledge. My parents used to go to Florida in the winter with him and his wife and their sister, Gertrude and her husband. Contact me through my email rather than the message board. Sorry again for not answering you early.

I have a photo of this couple. Can e-mail a scan to you if you want.

Your posting is very old. I assume you have the answer to your original question by now. Now, I have one.

Have you been successful in finding out the name of Abe's father? The evidence for the name of Abe's grandfather is strong - meaning that a history can be traced back to the 1500s. But which of the grandfather's many sons is the father of our Abe, I haven't yet discovered that one, though I'm quite certain he wasn't a child of the loyalist branch of the family.

LLewellen Ameigh is the son of Leslie, who is a son of George Ameigh, who was my Grandfather's (Fred) brother. So Llewellen is asecond cousin of my Dad.

Ask your dad if he remembers a wooded piece of land behind the cemetary. A creek ran through it and the hills rose on either side of it. My folks, Robert and Truus Ameigh owned that piece of land for many a year. My mother tells me that if she remembers correctly, Rodney used to love to play on that land when he was a child.

To take your line a little further:

George, your ancestor grandfather, (brother of my grandfather, Fred) was a son of George Ameigh and Anna Marie Kerrick. That George was the son of Abraham (Abram) Ameigh - married to Betsey Nichols. I have photos of George (as an older man) Anna Marie as a baby, and a photo of Abe and Betsey. I also have a copy of George's enlistment papers in the Civil War. After much work, I have speculated as to Abe's parentage, and look forward to finding proof when I get to upstate New York. I almost totally certain of Abe's grandparents, and look forward to receiving a photograph of the house (still standing) that he built in 1740 in a place called "The Clove", near Beekman, NY. This family, supposedly of some wealth at that time, can allegedly be traced back to a baker in Bavaria in the 1500s. I have done no research before Johannes, the grandfather of Abe, and anything before Johannes is just taken from others without any attempt to confirm any of it.

I have been putting together a little booklet (a compilation of my research) of my Ameigh family history - inclulding photos - but I probably won't work on it more until winter. Anna Marie Kerrick's family history is more than just a little interesting! It traverses saints and sinners (a cannonized saint, a few pirates, some infamous knights, and one ancestor who claimed to be directly descended from a Norse god.)

Mark your calendar to contact me next Spring and I'll e-mail you what I have, or e-mail me now and if you haven't heard from me by Spring, send me a reminder. I will send you some MSWord documents. I'll try to extract those pieces of your family history that pertain to you and me (as opposed to me alone).

Gail
Gail, The Memoirist
gail@memoirist.com
www.memoirist.com
