Schaupp Family - Ungstein - 1850's

Surnames: Schaupp
I am trying to locate where my family came from in the 1850's. Apparently they were from a place called Ungstein but I don't know if that was a town, county or state. Any info would be appreciated. They came to the US in 1857. Does anyone know where they would have had to apply for permission to leave?
