WEST LIBERTY, Iowa -- Hazel Ament, 98, West Liberty, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at the Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, after an extended illness.

Services are at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.

Memorials may be made to the Simpson Memorial Home.

She was born on May 29, 1904, in Utica, Ill., the daughter of Edmund and Lola Mae Nicum Linville. She married Leo Ament on Oct. 12, 1921, in Wapello.

She was a housewife and loved her family dearly.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Nevins and her husband, James Maurice, of West Liberty and Darlene Lange of Muscatine; grandchildren, Jolene Siewert and her husband, Don, Julie Gillick and her husband, Don and Robert Jr. Ament and his wife, Lori; five great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robert Sr.; four brothers; and a sister.

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa - Betty Marie Ament Nevins, 81, passed away Monday October 6, 2008, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty following a battle with diabetes and cancer.

Funeral Service will be at the West Liberty United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be at the church. Memorials may be made to Cedar Rapids Amenity Hospice. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on May 22, 1927, in Grandview Township, the daughter of William Leo and Hazel Marie Linville Ament. She attended country school and graduated from West Liberty High School in 1945. She married James Maurice Nevins on November 16, 1952, at the Presbyterian Church in West Liberty.

She had taught school for two years at Shilome Country School, worked as a secretary for Johnson Maytage & Electric, Bendix Corp. and had worked at ACT in Iowa City for 21 years retiring in November 1984.

She loved to shop for her doll collection, traveling and Christmas. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and was an avid Hawkeye fan.

She was a Christian and loved being a 45 year member of the United Methodist Church where she served as president of the United Methodist Women as well as helped teach E.S.L. at the church. She was chairman of the UNICEF drive for four years, a Paul Harris fellow, associate member of the Rotary Club, Rebecca Lodge, R.E.C. wives of Wilton, and a 56 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, James Nevins of West Liberty, a sister, Darlene (Dr. Gene) Shay of Muscatine; niece, Jolene Siewert and husband, Don, of Muscatine; great-niece, Janell Townsley and husband, Clint, Columbus Junction and their children, Jason of Muscatine and Janessa; and great-nephew, Jeff Siewert and wife, Cris, of Pella, and their children, Zackery and Cole.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert (Betty) Ament; a niece, Julie Gillick and a nephew Robert Ament Jr.
