Its such an unusual surname. We thought we were the only branch in the U.S. ...My grandfather was Joseph Aloysius Amer who immigrated to Baltimore Maryland thru Liverpool in the early part of the century. No one in the family is quite sure, but believe he was of german extraction. He had married an irish woman in Liverpool and was a merchant marine. He has seven grandchildren with the surname in Maryland.
