Greetings Scott,
I just read your posting on the genealogy web site.
It is so nice to meet you. I believe your parents are Norman and Jo Amer, first cousins to my parents Ely and Florence Amer. I have enjoyed visits with your parents at my brother Paul's bar Mitzvahs. Harry and Jean were very special people to my father and in many ways myself while growing up. ELy's father, Harry, died when Ely was just a teenager and your grandparents were like grandparents to myself. They regularly came to visit Westbury which was always a special occasion for us three kids to hang around at the house to socialize. It meant a lot to Ely that his fathers brother (Uncle) took an active interest in him. I have many enjoyable memories of their visits. In fact, when I was 18 or 19 Arthur was getting a new car and somehow I inherited his aged Cadilac. To a vehicle hungry teenager like myself it was heaven to have my own car even if it was a gas guzzling boat. I have many fond memories of my friends and I cruising in Arthur and Jeans car.
I have really enjoyed the infrequent contacts with your parents and the obviously active participation they have in Jewish family lifee and the Amer heritage. We enjoyed many memories and I cherish the sharing of their recolections of my parents.
They sing the praise's of their successful children and seem to take delight in knowing that other Amer's are prospering as well. My brothers Howard and Paul and myself have commented on the irony that we grew up in rather close geographic proximity yet never crossed paths. I know our parents generation often had cousins clubs and family reunions yet us kids didn't seem to be included.
Thank you for the email and look forward to hearing from you.
Your second cousin
Robert Amer
