Hi There
I am, I believe one of the 7th generations of Ameer-Beg’s.
It is my understanding that the name originated around the early 1800’s
It was given to my ancestor, whose name was Mr Beg, I believe this is a common name in India / Iraq / Iran.
He was given the India Title AMEER, (also spelt AMIR and EMIR). Due to his conquests
His title also carried with the position of Maharaja of Afghanistan.
Being Muslin he was able to take 5 wives. (Don’t know how many he had). The Maharaja had only 1 Son, whom he took to England to be educated (as did all Royal in those days). His wife, mother of his Son was also let in England to attend to the sons needs.
Whilst on route back to Afghanistan, the Maharaja lost his life, as his entourage passed through Egypt.
I believe his body was laid to rest in Ponchas Pilot in Egypt.
I am the Son of the late Benjamin John James Ameer-Beg.
