I was trying to find the origins of my surname "Ameer" and it has been suggested to me that my ancestors may have dropped the beg off when they first came to Australia but I did find this for you guys:

This is a most interesting surname of Indian descent but comprising elements of Afganhistan and Turkish origins. "Ameer" is the early Afgan word for High Ruler or tribal Chief, and similar to the more usual "Khan". "Beg" is the medieval turkish for a noble or senior official, although in modern Turkey it is held to be equivalent to the European formal address of "Monsieur or Herr". Such name recordings in the Romanic alphabet are not found in India before the Victorian period and only rarely then. In this case the first name holder was born in England (below) at Mulgrave Castle, Whitlby, Yorkshire, where his father was on the staff of the Mharajam Dhuleep singh, then in residence. It would appear that the name holders spent time in Egypt before returning to England where at Chesterton (Cambridge) a son was born on June 7th 1890. The "Ameer of Afgahistan" was the former ruler of the Kyher region, and it is believed that the present name holders have this descent. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Wirzia Accram Dhuleep Amee-Beg, which was dated February 4th 1863, born at Mulgrave Castle (seat of the Marguis of Normandy), during the reign of Queen Victoria "The Great White Queen", 1837 - 1901. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
Ameer-Beg's

Hi There
I am, I believe one of the 7th generations of Ameer-Beg’s.
It is my understanding that the name originated around the early 1800’s
It was given to my ancestor, whose name was Mr Beg, I believe this is a common name in India / Iraq / Iran.
He was given the India Title AMEER, (also spelt AMIR and EMIR). Due to his conquests
His title also carried with the position of Maharaja of Afghanistan.
Being Muslin he was able to take 5 wives. (Don’t know how many he had). The Maharaja had only 1 Son, whom he took to England to be educated (as did all Royal in those days). His wife, mother of his Son was also let in England to attend to the sons needs.
Whilst on route back to Afghanistan, the Maharaja lost his life, as his entourage passed through Egypt.
I believe his body was laid to rest in Ponchas Pilot in Egypt.
I am the Son of the late Benjamin John James Ameer-Beg.
Yes, Mark appeared as Amor in that census, but was actualy Amer. Was your William the one that married Elizabeth and had children William, Emily and Mary J? It seems unlikely that two Amers from Bromham would not be related. Found a Christiana Lovelock in 1841 but not with a son. Regards, Andrew.

Father James, mother Sarah.

My William AmEr was born in Bromham approx. 1836 but I think he was born out of wedlock. His mother was Christiana Lovelock. Not sure what the connection is, if any, to Mark.

Brenda
Hi Again

Good news - I hope I can be of help to fill in some of the gaps in the tree, at least from the UK side!
I'm sure my mum and Uncle Dave would be glad to give you any help they can, Aunt Olive died just before Christmas, and I think Uncle Dave has been sorting through the family photographs, and is trying to get the ancestry up to date.
You are correct about the Turkish/Persian/Indian connection, although I'm no expert, I do know it involves one of our ancestors working for the Maharaja Duleep Singh (http://www.duleepsingh.com) I'm not sure about any Royal Blood line, Uncle Dave can tell you more. As with all these things it's so difficult to sift the fact from fiction after so much time.

You can use this email: sh@lma.co.uk if you need to contact outside of this forum.

regards
Steve

Hi Stephen,

I am so thrilled about finding you. I don't know alot about our family, the last time I had contact with anyone was when I was very young, I had met My Great Grandfather, Aunt June and a few other cousins of that side. But haven't seen anyone since then. My mum Tina is also very interested in researching the family history; more so since her Dad John AmeerBeg passed away. I have become interested lately since my brother ( and your cousin) Jes'se passed away in 2006 from Leaukemia. Not only that but I feel very lost not knowing anything really. All I have been told about the Ameer Beg name is that it originated in Turkey, and that there is some kind of Royal bloodline. How would I be able to obtain a copy of the Family Tree that Uncle David has put together? My mum would be so thrilled if it was possible to recieve it. And do you know more about the AmeerBeg name meaning and origin? If what I have been told isn't correct. I am so happy that I have met you and I am very excited about finding out more on our Family.

Regards OLivia

I don't have a brother but I do have a sister Julie. I met Uncle Ted and Aunt May back in the 1980's when they visited England. More recently I met cousin June when she visited in 2002. You're correct about uncle David having more information - he has constructed a family tree that goes beyond Uncle Ted. I'm sure he would be please that someone else is also researching the family.

regards
Steve
He married my Great Nanny her Surname was Chiverton, their son John Ameer Beg married Anne Freist, their Daughter one of 5 children is my Mother. Do you have a brother named Richard? Here in Australia there is John Ameer Beg's sister June and Frank or Ted, not 100% sure. Does David AmeerBeg have more information on the Ameer Beg bloodline and history. I am interesting in going further back before Great Grandad Edward.

I have managed to gather a bit more info on Charles, including his military service history, and have filled in a lot of the details of his descendants, but the birth of Henry remains elusive. Do you mind if I ask your connection? I have Charles on all the censuses bar 1871 and can find no trace under any variation of the name.

Charles Amer, father of Henry Mark is shown on 1851 census for Westminster, as AMMER being born in Bromham Wiltshire. He is then a Grenadier guardsman! Hence the name Inkerman in Charlie Amers name. In 1861 still in Westminster as Amer. Regards Pauline (MAC)

I just came upon your post on the Fronden Family. Yes, we are alive and well in Maryland. lol. My husband is Edward Fronden. His father is John Betel Fronden. John Fronden and his wife, Grace Ann, lived 20 years in Maryland, had my husband and moved to Florida. So that is the Maryland/Florida connection. John and Grace Ann still live in Florida. John was originally born in Finland, was a merchant marine, and eventually settled in the USA. John is in his early 80s now. He had one son, my husband, Edward. John had numerous brothers and sisters back in Finland. I believe one of John's brothers is still alive and numerous cousins. We have addresses and my mother in law has more. We thought we were the only Frondens in the U.S. lol. Sounds like your part of the family immigrated here earlier.

Greetings Scott,
I just read your posting on the genealogy web site.

It is so nice to meet you. I believe your parents are Norman and Jo Amer, first cousins to my parents Ely and Florence Amer. I have enjoyed visits with your parents at my brother Paul's bar Mitzvahs. Harry and Jean were very special people to my father and in many ways myself while growing up. ELy's father, Harry, died when Ely was just a teenager and your grandparents were like grandparents to myself. They regularly came to visit Westbury which was always a special occasion for us three kids to hang around at the house to socialize. It meant a lot to Ely that his fathers brother (Uncle) took an active interest in him. I have many enjoyable memories of their visits. In fact, when I was 18 or 19 Arthur was getting a new car and somehow I inherited his aged Cadilac. To a vehicle hungry teenager like myself it was heaven to have my own car even if it was a gas guzzling boat. I have many fond memories of my friends and I cruising in Arthur and Jeans car.
I have really enjoyed the infrequent contacts with your parents and the obviously active participation they have in Jewish family lifee and the Amer heritage. We enjoyed many memories and I cherish the sharing of their recolections of my parents.
They sing the praise's of their successful children and seem to take delight in knowing that other Amer's are prospering as well. My brothers Howard and Paul and myself have commented on the irony that we grew up in rather close geographic proximity yet never crossed paths. I know our parents generation often had cousins clubs and family reunions yet us kids didn't seem to be included.
Thank you for the email and look forward to hearing from you.
Your second cousin
Robert Amer

Earlier I was searching my last name, which is Fronden, and normally i've only found people who live in our area but i found that there were frondens in maryland and florida!? is this true?? i was in total shock because for a long time i thought the only fronden's in america were here in our area, and there were some from finland who were already passed away. We found some immigration papers from i think a great great grampa or somewhere like that who came from liverpool england to america, but also before he came he changed the name from frondeen to fronden. well one person did. this is what i remember from the sheets that we seen, they were big ones that were just like the actual ones used. if there really are other frondens out there taht aren't in minnesota, or new york, e-mail so we can know, because we're probably family and don't know it! lol. Im just freaked out to see other people with the same last name.

My grandmother was Louisa Amer, born in Beenham, Berkshire on 10 October, 1857 to Charles and Caroline Amer. Charles was born to William and Sarah Amer of Cold Ash, Thatcham on 4 November, 1832. Louisa was one of at least 14 children. There HAS to be a connection with your family. Arthur Frederick married Irene Loiusa Amer, they had 3 children but then she left for some reason.
I have been researching the Amer Family, and
have a William Amer born 1798, and christemed
at Wesley Methodist Church, Wiltshire, England.
Living with daughter, Lucy Amer Pike in Berkshire.
Midgham Green, England as listed in the 1881
census. Son, Charles, born in Cold Ash England,
age 48 in the 1881 census.

The Amer Connection is with my Husband's grandfather
who came to the US in 1884, and by some miracle was
naturalized by order of the court in 1885,

I have additional members in Berkshire, and wonder if
there could be a connection.

Would appreciate any information you may have, and will
be happy to share what I have.

L.
