Hi Hazel. I agree that it does seem that this Richard is the second son of Robert (who we refer to as Robert of Islington) and Martha. Dates and given names are so alike and Robert's father was Joseph Amey and grandfather John. I think it must have been Joseph who acquired the Tincelton property as he is buried there.
In thinking further about it I think Richard may have been mentioned in his fathers will of which I believe my mother has a copy. I will e-mail her later to ask.
Mum's research was done 20 years ago and her researcher has since died. Robert of Islington (near Puddletown) is the only member of the family who appears to have accumulated property . He held property at Tincleton, south of Puddletown and lived at Islington. As you have access to a researcher perhaps you are willing to check the Blandford area for Shilters. Richard may also have inherited the farm from a grandfather or Uncle so if you can find a Poll Book entry. I have checked the 1807 Poll Book without luck.
http://www.thedorsetpage.com/Genealogy/info/poll_book.htmShilters owned land and farmed principally at Hazelbury Brian. There is no mention of Richard Amey. So if he owned land he is mostly to have acquired it just before or at the time of his marriage. In this case his father may have purchased it for him and there may be no former connection with is area.
I seem to remember the surname "House" cropping up quiet a bit so that might be worth trolling for.
Our Martha died 12/3/1799 at Puddletown. We think , but have never proof it, that William the eldest son was a soldier and buried in an Alter grave at Puddletown. When I visited in 1991 the inscription was hard to read but I believe Dad took a photo so Mum will have a copy. He is listed as living at Islington with Property at Tincleton in the Dorset Pool Book for 1807.
I live in Queensland and have just retired from work. Hence I have taken up the family history my mother has done and am now entering everything onto computer. All my research at present is by internet.
Please keep it touch,
Best Wishes Glenys
