AMEYS IN ESSEX

I am researching the ancestors of my uncle Norman Amey who was born 1926 in Romford Essex. His fahter was Cecil Edwin Amey born 1885 West Ham and his mother was Daisy E Hicks. Cecil's father was David Amey born 1850 St Pancras Marylebone and his mother Sarah Harvey. David's father was Samuel Amey born abt 1812 possibly Little Stambridge/Grt Sharnbridge in Essex. I believe his father to be Joseph Amey born abt 1782 in Essex. Can anyone help me trace this family in Essex. My uncle died last year and my aunt has asked me to trace the Amey family for her and my cousins as my uncle never talked about his family.

England 1790 Catherine Amey & son Elijah Lewis Amey 1808 - Dorset/Hampshire/London

Searching for information on Catherine Amey born around 1790 ish in the East Dorset area. I can find no record of her birth.

Catherine had a son Elijah Lewis Amey born 1808 in Horton with Woodlands in Dorset England. No father is listed, he is registered as bbs o (bastard born son of ) Catherine Amey.

Catherine later married John Frampton in 1820 in Horton with Woodlands.

Elijah married three times and sometimes called himself Louis. Elijah died in 1871 in Droxford Hampshire but he had 17 or more children.

Elijah married his first wife Hannah Cutler in 1831 in Horton. Children Charles 1831, Thomas 1834, Elijah Jnr 1835, Ellen 1839 and George 1841.
Hannah died in 1844 in Droxford Hampshire

On his 2nd wedding certificate in 1844 to Mary Jane Bennett from Cranbourne Dorset, Elijah's lists his father as Thomas Amey, who is Thomas Amey?

They had five children Samuel 1845, Mary 1847, Albert 1849, Walter 1850 and Anne 1852 before Mary Bennett died in 1852 in Droxford Hampshire.

His last marriage was to Louisa Allen in 1859 ish in Manchester although Louisa was from Preston Candover in Hampshire. Elijah was a labourer in 1844 and Maybe work took him to Manchester. It is possible that at first Louisa was employed to look after the children.
Louisa had her own daughter Ellen Allen born 1847 who later takes the Amey name.
Elijah and Louisa had Henry 1856 and Elizabeth 1858 before they married and Jane 1859, Emma 1863, Hannah 1866 and my grandfather John Thomas in 1864.
Louisa died c1900 in London.

Can anyone link to this tree?

Carolyn Amey

P.S. For those of you outside the UK I have not found that any of my Amey family have left the shores of England and all the name I have are here, unless you know different?

Just found this site: Grandfather, George Maxwell Amey, moved from Ontario, Canada in the 1930's to Buffalo, NY (Lancaster-Depew)Worked in Roofing Sales and opened family business Roofing Company. Always heard family name was originally spelled Emigh (Origin?) and a pair of brothers had been loyalist who lived in the states (where?) but during the revolutionary war moved to Canada because they were loyalists. Can anyone fill in the details, confirm or ssend me to a site that will have some good info? Thanks

Amey Family - Allentown, Lehigh County, PA

I am looking for any information on the following Amey family, which lived in Allentown, PA beginning in the late 1800's...

Charles M. Amey, married Anna Maria (aka Annie) Diehl about 1891. Had five children - Floyd G. Amey (b. 23 Jul 1893), Mabel A. Amey (b. Feb. 1898 or 1899), Roy Amey (b. about 1902), Russell C. Amey (B. about 1904), and Harry E. Amey (b. April 1, 1906).

Floyd married Edna Catharine Maryann Decker and had two children - Wilmer Franklin Amey (b. 12 Jul 1912), and Carlton R. Amey (b. abt. Oct. 1918)

Mabel married a man by the name of Schaffer and had at least two children, including Miriam M. Schaffer (b. abt. 1919) and Raymond L. Schaffer (b. about 1921).

I have no further knowledge of Roy, but Russell may have married a Dorothy C. Schleifer.

Harry may have died in Allentown, PA in August of 1980.

I would like very much to locate descendants of this family. I have quite a few pictures and documents that would be of interest to you, which relate to your Diehl ancestry.

AMEY/AMY

My GG grandmother was an Amey/Amy. Her name was Alice Amy (i've seen it spelled both ways in some documents of her children) Alice died Jan 20th, 1864, she was married to Hiram Young of Marsh Creek which is near a town called Howard, PA which is in central PA near Penn State. My guess is Alice was born around 1830 give or take a few years. She bore 3 children to Hiram (Angenitta - Annie Young Laubscher, my G grandmother) Ira Mitchell Young and Harvey Scott Young) Alice supposedly came from around Jamestown, NY and have also heard she may came from Cearfield County, PA. My cousin told me that my dad also mentioned an Ischua/Oshua (sp) NY. Alice was supposedly a full blooded Indian Women (I know - everyone has an Indian in the family):-). My father who would be 94 if he were alive today never said much about her. He did say "she was a Cornplanter Indian" Which were actually Senecas, Cornplanter was a chief of one of the Seneca tribes. Don't know if that has any familiarity at all to anyone, however would luv to hear from you if so..

Okay, I think I've got a new one. Morris W. Amey would have been my great grandfather...and that's where I get stuck. I know he had a brother Chester and that Morris married Rosa L. Wieder. The whole gang was from the Lehigh County, PA or Allentown area. Morris was born about 1870. Has anyone ever seen anything about who Morris' parents or other siblings might be?
