Nicholas AMICK/EMIG d 1798, buried ?

Nicholas Amick/Emig left a will probated in 1798 in Randolph Co. NC.(Rowan Fairgrove, Roots Web) This same reference has him buried at Wolfs Church, York PA. Others have Nicholas buried at "Wolf's Church Cemetery, Randolph Co. NC." I have spent days searching the church records of York Co. PA and the cemetery at Wolfs Church, now St. Pauls, in West Manchester Twp., York Co. and find no grave site for Nicholas. The above referenced Fairgrove has the Nicholas Amick/Emig family moving to NC between 1750-60 and son Jacob born 1765. Other internet postings have the same birthdate for Jacob and place of birth as Chester Co. PA. There seems to be some inconsistancies here. Can anyone elucidate??
ronclees@hotmail.com

Hi GrannyBart-I am descended from John Philip, son of Johann Heinrich and Catherine Nichols. I believe your connection to Pendleton, WV is through Henry, brother of John Philip. I know there is a question with Heinrich's parents, but most of us believe he is the son of George Emich. I would think your Philip is the son of a relative of George. Every family seems to have used the same names. John Philip stayed in Pennsylvania. Has anyone figured out the names of the three brothers? Maybe we can share some information. Betsy

Larry! Thanks for your reply. I would be interested in any info you may have. I am descended from Philip to Jacob to James Polk to George to my mother Ruth. I, too have a lot of info. I am currently looking at a relationship between Philip and the John Philip Emich, son of Johan Henrich Emich and Catherine Nicla. Very little can be found on this Philip and he fits in with the age Philip would have been when he married Catherine Hoffman. Some of my research is the Johan Michael Hoffman and Eva Cathrina Jagi who arrived on the same ship that Johan Henrich Emich's parents, Johannes and Eva Dorthea Rotter came to America on.This would be a good Emich-Hoffman connection, but I have not been able to find a connection between Catherine's father Jacob and Johan Michael. This would give us the connection with the Amick's of Pendleton, Nicholas and Fayette County, WV. They too, I have heard, have the story of three brothers coming from Germany. I also have heard Phillip went west to fight Indians but never returned, but he is last found in the 1830 Frederick County Census and at 60-70 years old, I doubt he would go to fight Indians then. I believe he died at Back Creek. My Aunt Addie Amick Elswick did alot of ancestry work on the Amicks and corresponded with Daisy Amick of Winchester. Are you related to her? Also, I am descended from several of the Palatinates, many who came together to America and often their descendents married. I believe tracing some of these will lead us to Philip's parentage. You may e-mail me at wwbart@zoominternet.net and I will talk to more about this.

Granny,
I am researching Philip's family. I don't know anything about him before he came to VA. Philip was married in Frederick Co., VA. Winchester is the county seat, but not by Gov. Lee, but by Christian Streit, a Lutheran Pastor, Conrad Crebs was the Surety. He was from PA. He had at least three sons, Jacob, Isaac and Henry. They all appear to be wagon makers. Jacob stayed in the Frederick County and Hampshire County areas of VA & WV. He served in the War of 1812 and got a pension. I have extensive records on his family. Isaac married in Cumberland, MD and migrated to Marion Co., MO. His name is butchered in the census indexes, so he is difficult to trace. I'm not certain about Henry, but I have been told that he migrated west as well. He may have fought in the Civil War in a MO unit. He and Isaac were born 1810-1815, much younger than Jacob who was born 11 May 1792 in Loudoun Co., VA (date from Amick Family Bible, location from his son Franklin's death certificate). Let me know if you are interested in anything else I have.

Larry W. Veach

AMICK Snyder or Juniata County PA

I am hoping to find info on the family of my great-great grandmother. She was Mary Elizabeth or Elizabeth Mary Amig/Amich/Amick born 1844 and from Snyder or Juniata County PA.

She apparently married Daniel C Kepler, a druggist and had several children, among them, a daughter Minnie Kepler. It appears the marriage did not last as censuses indicate both of them reporting as divorced.

Late in life, Mary Elizabeth moved to Allentown, Lehigh County PA and lived with her daughter Minnie and son in law Daniel Henry Romberger. She is buried front and center of the Romberger family plot at Greenwood Cemetery, and I would appreciate any help on her family. I'd be glad to share what I have. Thank you.

My husband is the son of Kathryn and Grady Walden. We have a book which details some pertinent facts concerning the Johnston/Howe/McCreery families.

I have let a writer borrow it. She has traced this family back to Jamestown. Kathryn W., however, feels that its ancestry goes back to the Mayflower desendants. This is, of course,is a mute point as there is no proof.

I will see if I can get the book back. It may take some time, but I will help you if I can. I will notify you when I have more information.

I was told a story Two brothers Emigh that came to PA and the mill would not hire brothers, so one changed his last name to Amigh. Have no first names or any other info. However finding any Amigh info is impossible.

Hi Cynthia, Do you know anything about a Louisa AMICK or perhaps Mary Louisa AMICK. ? AMICK may be her married name as it appears her maiden name was SEAY. She married Dallas Isaiah WESSINGER in 1843 in the Dutch Fork area of SC. Any ideas ? Thx. Bob
