I was reading through some of the other posts about my family, the Amico family, and I came across some similarities.
I have family (that I know of) in New York, Florida, California, France, Italy (possibly). My grandparents were/are Joseph Amico and Nicole Amico..I'm the daughter of Cheryl and Eric Amico. My dad (Eric) has a brother named Dennis. My grandmother is from France, and my grandfather had siblings including Mary and Johnny. I know of some other relatives, but they're cousins, and if you need those names, let me know!

Re: Amico from Sicily to Michigan to California

Hey chickie, who won't tell you anything? Maybe I can help because I want answers too. On your mother's side (as you know), there were 11 of us born- three singles and 4 sets of twins- from your grandpa and grandma Joseph Salvatore Amico and Vian Smith. They were both sergeants in the American Army where they met, sometime during the Korean "conflict". Joseph and Vian married and had their clan of Amicos in Michigan. Vian was a homemaker and Joseph was a pharmacologist, president of CORD labratories in michigan. My grandparents, your great grandparents, were Joseph and Josephine Amico and I believe they are the ones (not sure) who immigrated from Sicily- and we have relatives all over the East coast. I don't remember Josephine's surname. We are related to Culver, Father Hugo Amico, and a few other surnames your mom knows, or at least your aunt Lisa does. We up and moved to CA because your grandpa Joseph Amico developed severe diabetes and needed to be in a warmer climate because of circulation probs. I was probably around 5 when we moved. Anyway, we have a huge family out there we don't know about so if anyone sees familiar info here, please contact us!

Do you know more details? My brother and I are trying to find out more information on our mother's family history, my mother maiden name being Amico. They will not tell us anything, but all we know is that her father was sicilian, who moved from Michigan to California, up and leaving his family, for a reason unknown.

AMICO

Hi. Not too good at this, yet. Seems that my ancestors (recent) disappear and I don't know where they could be.
For instance, grandmother Sancenito married Michelle Amico in 1923 in New Jersey. He had immigrated from Italy. They were divorced in NJ and she is shown on 1930 census living with her parents along with her son (my father). But I cannot, for the life of me, figure out where Michelle went. Any ideas, or sharing of what you know, will help so much.

Another problem, my parents, Vincent Amico and Margaret Kasuba Amico had a son in 1947. They were living in Nanty Glo, PA, USA. He died of SIDS in 1948. (Not absolutely sure of the dates) His first name was Paul. Why can I not find any record of his birth or death?

Thank you so much for absolutely any help.

Joseph, I think we're on opposite sides of the tree but it'll be great sharing information. If it's the same family then the son Joseph would have changed his name to Joel Friend and became and actor. The father Joseph would have been my great uncle.
I'm told my great grandfather went on to Chicago while his brother or brothers settle in New York. My great grandfather went back to Italy and there he died. He left his son and daughter in Chicago. It is the son of my great aunt that gave me the New York info. It seems he took care of Joel Friend during his last year of life.
I can be contacted at Shaggy50@aol.com.

I am looking for any information on Francesca Mangiapane. She married a unknown Amico in Sicily. I was told he was murdered and robbed while driving his wagon home. Frances and her children then went to America in 1914. I have found her in Ellis Island records along with her children. I also find her in 1920 and 1930 census living in Detroit, Michigan.

Her children were Giuseppa (Josephine), Giovonnie (John), Anna, Maria (Mary), Giuseppe (Joe) and Francesco Palo (Frank). From the best I can figure, they stayed in Michigan.

Josephine married Giuseppe Luppino
John ?
Anna married Onfrio Catanzaro
Mary married Scipione Ranelli
Joe married Borgia White
Frank married Margaret Miller

I am especially interested in Joe Amico. He lived in Detroit in the 1920's and 1930's. He was a Italian gangster who murdered his boss, Chester LaMare then mysteriously dissappeared around 1936 or so.

Hoping someone has something on this Mangiapane/Amico family.

Pasquale Amico + Anna Noce in Caltanissetta?

My 4G-GF was Pasquale Amico, born about 1772 presumably in Caltanissetta. He married an Anna Noce, born about 1781. Have not found their marriage record yet. They had a daughter, Agata Amico, born about 1797, (my 3G-GM). She married, in Mar.1820 in Caltanissetta, Carmelo Anzalone who was born in San Cataldo about 1783.
Any connections out there?

I have an Antonio Pastorello (b. 1886) who married Graziella Amico (b. 1892). They had 3 children that I know of... Joseph, Peter and Josephine. Graziella's parents were Pietro Amico and Giovanna Saporito. There's got to be a match up here somewhere. I'm missing all kinds of people in this tree and am having a hard time linking up! I have no info on Antonio Pastorello's parents or siblings -- I'm thinking your Colagera might be his sister.
The Italian equivalent would be Andrea and although I am relatively sure he was born in the US I believe his parents were immigrants. I know that he spoke Italian and English. The family story is that he was a cousin to his wife through the Pastorello side of the family. His wife's (Concetta Natale) mother was Cologera Pastorello, the Americanized version would be Claudia Pastorello and she was born 5/15/1880. Does any of this connect with you?

I am also researching family from Santa Catarina Villarmosa Sicily (it seems to be spelled differently everywhere I look) to Chicago. I am mostly researching the Natale family but I have a Concetta Natale b. in 1905 who married an Andrew Amico in the Chicago area. Does this match up with any of your names? I understand that they were cousins and that did not originally make sense to me since Amico didnt seem to be an Italian name but it appears their families are from the same village. Please email me if you have any info. Thanks!
ajnatalie@netzero.com

Hi Laurie,
Well, I found out that Patricia is related to my PETIT family and she did share some things with a fellow - PETIT researcher who lives there in West Seneca, NY. So, you don't have to ask questions on my behalf about the PETIT side, because I am getting answers and may drop her a line when I find out what her address is. But I hope you make a connection with your AMICO line. Let me know if you find out there is a connection. Take Care. Shannon

A fellow PETIT researcher found Patricia (nee PETIT) Amico currenty living in Williamsville. You may want to give her a call - seeing it is a local call. She may be able to fill you in on the AMICO line of what she knows. There may or may not be a direct connect, but may be worth the phone call. I have not talked to her yet. But I got an e-mail today about information on the PETIT family that I have been looking for for quite some time now. Hope this helps you too.
Shannon

Hi Shannon, I am in Buffalo, NY area. Let me see what I can find out for you. I have just started finding info on my Amico connection, so it is a weak connection right now. I know my grt grt grandmother's parents names were Fillipo and Maria Inzinna Amico. They were from Caltinisetta, Sicily. Amico is the #1 most popular name there today! I can also tell you there was a Sheriff Amico in late 1960's for Erie County. We don't know if he is connected to us yet, but maybe he is to you? Let me dig alittle.I will see what I can find.

Domenico and Salvatrice came from Caltavuturo or Caltinisetta, Sicily.
Salvatrice's father, Giuseppe had a sister Giuseppina Amico, she also married a Galbo.
Any information is appreciated.

Amico's in Chicago from Sicily

Mel - Thanks for getting back to me. I don't know if your Salvatore and my Pietro are related are not, but I'm thinking they are, since Pietro had a son named John Salvatore (or Giovanno Salvatore Amico), born in 1906. He was born in the states, the 8th of 10 children. The first 5 were born in Sicily. The family came to Chicago in 1903. I have no other information on Pietro except that he was born in 1853 in Santa Caterina Villarmosa, Sicily and died April 20, 1931 in Chicago. He married Giovanna Saporito, who was born in 1871 (also in Santa Caterina Villarmosa) and died October 20, 1928 in Chicago. Looks like we need to search for the link between Pietro and Salvatore. Maybe if they're not siblings, they're cousins. Have you done any research in Italy or Sicily? I haven't (yet). I'm still picking the brains of older family members but I think I need to take the next big step. Here's hoping there's a link! There a very few Amico's here in Chicago -- most of them stayed on the East coast (NY and Boston). My father-in-law contends that they were never "D'Amico's" which are fairly common around here. So that helps. : )
