This was my grandfather, who was born near Cincinatti, Ohio, in 1894. The census info says that his father came from France. That is all I have. I don't know if Allen had any brothers, but would love to hear about them. I have heard that the family came from the Alsace Lorraine region, now a part of France.

The mysterious disappearance of Lorenz Ammann

Lorenz Ammann was born in Wuertemberg, Germany in 1835. The surname Ammann sometimes appears as Amann with one 'm'.
He appears in the Cincinnati, OH directories in the mid 1860's, along with a brother, Phillip Ammann. Both were maltsters. (I suspect Joseph Ammann, who appears in Cincinnati at the same time may have been another brother, but I cannot make the connection).
The next record I can find for Lorenz is in 1873 when he returns from Germany to the States on the ship Main. He married the widow Bertha Schirmer Klenk in Buffalo, NY in the mid 1870's and moved his new family to Cincinnati. Bertha had four children when they married.
Lorenz and brother Phillip appear again in the Cincinnati directories starting in 1877, the year his son Albert Ammann was born .The family appears in the 1880 census in Cincinnati.
Family legend says he could not find work in Cincinnati so he returned alone to Buffalo and was never heard from again. I have been unable to find a record of him anywhere after the 1880 census, not even a death or burial record. Did he indeed go back to Buffalo? If so, I cannot find any records placing him there. Perhaps back to Germany, abandoning his family? Did he change his name to escape his family? Did he accompany his brother Phillip when he and his family moved to Toledo? I can find no indication he was in Toledo, either.
His wife Bertha appears alone in the early 1880's city directories. In 1884 Bertha appears in the Cincinnati directory as 'widow'. Could it be that he died in the early 80's and his young son was told he went away instead of being told the truth of his death?
I would like to hear from anyone who may know what happened to Lorenz Ammann, or who may have any clues to his disappearance.
My great grandmother was Henrietta Ammann, she was married to Henry Riemenschneider. While researching these family trees,I discovered there are unclaimed swiss bank accounts,& unclaimed property these families are entitled to claim. No,I am not joking, these funds include accounts that were established by jewish families during the holocaust. I was wondering if you might be able to help locate the heirs to these missing bundles. No there is no charge or fee for the information,so please, email me.

I am looking for info on mygreatgrandfather parents and his children. His name is Joseph Ivas Aman. Sometimes he went by Judge Ivas or J. I. On most of records that I founded they were J. I. most on his marriage record. He was born April 1862 in Alabama died feb. 11,1911 in Leon Co. He came from Alabama when he was a boy and got to Calvert texas where his mother died with the fever and they buried her there with all the others tha thad the fever and died. He married a the first time to a Josephine and the lived in Leon Co Texas. They had two children Joseph Lemuel and my grandmother Nancy(Nannie) Jane who was born Feb.7,1886 in Leon Co. Josephine died 21 days after she was born. Joseph then married Susan Ann Baker Hunecut on March 8,1888 in Leon Co. Texas( On the marriage record it shows a J. I. Aman and Susan Hunecut.) They had children by the name of Rose Stella,Ella(Ellie),Margaret(Maggie),Bettie,Elie Coy,Aldonia E. and Dora B. Any help will be very greatful. Thanks Yvonne

Ammann - history of the name

"Ammann" is the Swiss spelling, similar to the German spelling "Amann", of a title for the town mayor. So likely your ancestor far back was a mayor somewhere and he must have thereafter "adopted" the name permanently.

I have listed the history of my own family in the Amann surname board. The Amann families lived mainly in Germany but also in Austria and eastern France. Ammann was more common in Switzerland.

Andrew Ammann died in Denver, Colorado in 1907. He is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetary. He was married to Johanna Feusi. They came to Denver in 1880. After Andrew died, Johanna married a man named Butterfass.
I'm just getting in to the geneology stuff. My dad & aunt have a lot more information. Andrew had several children, one of which was Alphons Amman. He had a son Hubert Alphonse Amman. He was my grandfather. His son Lawrence Hubert Amman is my father.

I just find out my Ggrandmother's name so I don't have any dates or anything else to share about them but I have tons to share if this is your Anna...about the generations since they came to America.
You can reach me at jeanlink@zbzoom.net .I will look forward to hearing from you.
Jean

Please folks if you read the message prior to this, this information is just not true. I met my father thru using this site. He never received anything from the author of the previous email because he keeps his where 'bouts unknown. I am aware of his email and in fact my dad doesn't even own a computer. Don't believe everything you read. You might suggest to the webmaster that they remove the emails that were generated in a personal manner. I have asked several times and they are left to be posted in a "non genealogical" fashion. Just so you knew...I found my dad and she can't contact him. Don't inhibit others from their searches.

Andrew (Adreas) Ammann

My great grandfather was Andrew (Andreas) Ammann, born 1844 in Switzerland to Johanna Feusi. I would like to obtain information from anyone with a connection or link to this family line (i.e. names, dates of and placesof birth, etc). Andrew settled in Denver, Colorado in the mid-1800's, and was self employed as a boot maker. He had a son, Alphons who was born in 1884. Alphons dropped the last "n" in the family name, which I restored.

BILL AMMANN ...allow birthfather search unassaulted please.

As can be viewed in other messages from my siblings father's what this woman states is simply not true. Due to embittered feelings from our bithfathers to our biological mother Dora Lee they do not contact us because we had contact with her.
Now none of us have contact with our biological mother and we have now been able to find my brother's father after a 50 yr wait by his father.
Our mother was devious and changed our last names often in order to ingratiate herself to the next man she married.
All of us kids had our names changed several times. First middle and last names were changed.
Relationships with our birthfathers was prohibited by out biological mother DORA LEE.
I am still searching for family of my birthfather. It may be that in fact he has other children from his second wife Giselle.
He told me when I was 15 and had ran away from a severely abusive and violent home that he could not take me in as he was afraid of the retribution from my biological mother.
He chose to distance himself. I have not spoken to this man in a long time and he has never said such things and in fact my biological mother has no contact as he and his wife desire so.
Saying such things to ruin and destroy a geneology search is strange and unhealthy alongwith controlling and manipulating.
Leave me alone to search for my birthdad and try and create a loving relationship that was not allowed.

My father has had no contact with my biological mother and any distance created is his effort to remain saafe with his family from her emotional and physical assaults.

Maybe he thinks Im like her. Im not. Please dad would you contact me? I keep all information confidential and have been estranged from her for over 30 years for good reason.

I love you

kitty@landscapelady.com

No one has contacted anyone regarding the inquiries for my father.

My sister and my brother and I are all three trying to find our birth fathers. None of use excepting my sister and I am the only one in consistent contact with him have ever had close contact or medical and genealogical information.

I am posting after your removal again of a harmless message requesting info about my dad and whether or not their are other siblings.

My siblings and I have never been allowed to speak of nor search for our birth fathers. Now as adults we search in other forum boards and in geneology areas with no problems.

please leave our messages regarding search for our fathers.

There has been no contact whatsoever with any of them by any parent in our family. Repeated attempts have been made to stop us from finding out more of our father's family.

Please facilitate this search by not removing simple requests.

Thanks you

I am especially interested in the medical history of our family Dan. Forgive me for sounding so lame and pathetic in the first posting. I was shocked beyond words (well almost) and was so emotional! I wished that like the other gene sites I could view your email and make this personal. It is slightly embarrassing to profess my yearning for a relationship with someone on the internet...Since we are cousins and I am not a nut case like Dora would you take it upon yourself to write me and lets at least mildly get to know one another. Please visit my business website www.landscapelady.com...I would love the geneology of my dad's family as I haven't a clue as to ethinicity. I am also hoping that my father's health is well. I wonder how old is he. I am curious do I look like my dad...I think I have his eyes and so do his grand daughters Joyful and Chavalah. Why did they name me my first name? My mother always told me until you see a posting she put here that my father was a Mexican man she had as a boyfriend. SHe told me Bill was not my dad. She didnt tell me this until about 8 years ago and I assumed that that was perhaps why Bill didn't want anything to do with me. After some blood work I had done, it is apparent (at least to the medical community) that I am not of Hispanic origins. Since I have only one photo of my dad as a young man...I can see we have the same face, same smile and eyes...I would love a photo of our grandparents and also of my dad. Thank you...

So many questions that if he doesn't want to deal with such things ever then maybe you could open your heart and mind to cluing me in?

As I love to say...Carpe juggulatum...by the way I have a great sense of humor?...does he?
kittyparton@yahoo.com

Search for Bill Ammann

Dear Kitty,
I know this was posted a few months ago, but I happened to stumble on this site while at the history channel, so I do not know if you have gotten any more information on your search. Well after seeing a heading with you looking for a William Ammann, which was my grandfathers name. I just clicked on it and with an eire(sp) feeling I saw the names of my grandfather, Brook Ammann and my grandmother, Blanche Ammann. The young brother you mention is Dan Ammann, my father. The older sister is Adwina(sp) an aunt. Bill you are looking for is, yes my uncle. I talked to my dad about this and he has told me a little bit of information. He and my mom remembers your mom Dora. I think my dad has met you a long time ago. Also my dad talks about a brother of yours named Jeff which I think I met when I was young because I use to stay at their house with my sister as kid in Brea,Ca. And during a holiday gathering there was a teenager who I never met and they said he was Bill's son from another marriage but I never new he was married before my aunt Gislea(sp). They since have moved out of the state and I have not seen them for a few years.
Mark I think it possible that not really my "cousin" maybe..

"someone" else. It would be disturbing to think that another would post the message of my father and other information (which by the way I thought if you had an aunt you'd certainly know that her name spelling?...I mean dont people write their aunts name and Dan would be my age. I think Mark this could have been my mother/and or her adopted daughter trying to get me to stop looking for my dad and any relations.

Thank you for the support. I left my email and I would assume that he would have emailed me with an answer if he was for real...after waiting and reading I wondered if in fact it was not my cousin as the name 'Giselle' was spelled with ? to and I find that strange as well...a forty something year old that grew up around those names not knowing how to spell them?...It would not be the first time a posting had been planted to do deter me. It's kool, I've lived with it for 44 years I suppose I can move into the next 44 unhindered and hopeful...OR IT IS A COUSIN AND YOU KNOW!! HOW BAD GUYS ARE AT SPELLING??? (No offense to "man" kind)...but anyway...I am leaning towards the prior not the later.
