Hello,

I just spoke with my Father and he didn't remember your Dad right away, but is going to ask some other vets who were stationed in Quang Tri with him. My Dad was in the 63rd and was there the same time your Dad was and was also a mechanic, so they surely crossed paths. Did your Father have a nickname he went by?

Can you send me your email address? I will pass it along to my Dad who can put you in touch with anyone who remembers your father and also send you more information? If you have a picture of your Dad while he was serving in Viet Nam, that would help too. Here is my email: jmanwarren@gmail.com

His name was definitely Ammerman to start with. There was a real Samuel Burd married to a woman named Mary that was about the same age (I think he was even born the same month) and lived not far away, but when I tracked that family, I found that that Samuel never had a son named James. James E Burd was my great grandfather and the son on Samuel and Clara Burd. It looks as though Samuel was angry at his father for some reason and changed his name as a result....I'm guessing because of his father's remarriage to a much younger woman after his mother's death. He apparently softened his feelings later by nicknaming his son George S Burd "Pete." My Grandmother Burd knew the story and passed it along to my mother. Rich (who responded above) found out independent of me and verified my information. --Sara

She is buried in the Fairview Cemetery. We had a stone placed last year.
She married John Steir (Civil War Veteran) in 1885. John died in 1898 in Patton. They had three children, John, Cyrus(my dad), and Reynolds.
In 1900, Nora married Andrew Kephart in Clearfield.

I am searching for info on Charles Ammerman. Per the 1930 census (he was living in Indianapolis, Marion Co, IN), he was born c1897 in IN. Married Emma (b c1901, OH) c1923.

The 1930 census lists 3 children:
Clarence (actually Charles Theodore "Ted" 1925-1993)
Patricia
Eva (Eva June, 1927-1975)
Mary

This family's vital records are falling through the cracks--Charles and Emma mc1923, after the online IN marriage records end.

Eva's first marriage to Robert Sailor, c1942 in CA (yes, she was about 15) falls in between the 2 online CA marriage indices. It was not announced in the LA Times, but may have been in one of the many many other local newspapers.

Emma's maiden name was likely Dahle (per Charles' death record).

I have a few more tricks to try to find this family, but perhaps someone else is looking?

**My FHC may reopen in April, after a very frustrating remodelling closure!!!!**

We have a little family mystery that I'm hoping someone can help us with. There was a story in our family that my great great grandfather Samuel H Burd might really have been an Ammerman. The story is that his father died, his mother remarried a Burd, and the kids changed their names to Burd. I've been researching him to find out what the truth is. All I know is that Samuel H Burd (of Clinton, Porter, PA and born May 1856) appears in 1880. There is no census listing on him prior to that. BUT there is one in 1870 for a Samuel H Ammerman of the same age. His father is listed as Peter Ammerman (Born 1818). I was just wondering if anyone has any information that could help us.

Thanks very much for the lead. I had searched the census for Indiana and Ohio, but missed the Ammamas name. The connection to Preble County, Ohio is intriguing, because that is where my William Lawder and Carrie Ammerman settled after they married. I will definitely follow up on this lead. Thanks again.

I may have located your Carrie in the 1880 federal census for Williamsport, Warren Co., Indiana. There is a Carrie living with a John Ammerman (incorrectly indexed at Ancestry.com as "Ammamas"). She is listed as 3 and born in Indiana, and there is a sister Henrietta who is 6. John was born in Ohio, and I believe I have located him in the 1870 federal census for Pike, Warren County, Indiana as "John W Ammerman" with his father, John, mother, Caroline and siblings. In addition I believe I have located them in 1860 in Washington, Preble County, Ohio. If this is the correct family, I can connect them back to another John who was born in NJ, migrated to Maryland, then to Kentucky. Also, there is a marriage record in Warren County, Ind for an Ann Ida Hickman who married a John W Ammerman 13 Apr 1873. This could be Carrie's mother. Perhaps she died before 1880. If I were you, I would contact the people in Warren County and see if you can prove the connections.

Good evening. To be honest I don't know if i can help you much, so apologize ahead of time. My grandma Helen (Rosendahl) Harris was a Rosendahl. Her Great grandfather was Martin U. Rosendahl, born Nov. 7, 1841 in Spitzerfehn, Stachhelt, Ostfreisland, Germany. He came to America in 1868 to Minok, IL. This as for back that i'm able to go as of now.
I'm actually fixing to see if I can find his parents (records) etc.

Isaac Ammerman + Sara/Eleanor Van Arsdalen

I am looking for info on an Isaac Ammerman born 1730 and died 1788 in Sussex NJ. I have him married to Eleanor Van Arsdalen however many on geneology forums list him married to Sara Van Arsdalen. I'm wondering if this is the same person (Sara/Eleanor).

Also, I am very stumped on facts surrounding Isaac's parents. Regardless of the wifes name almost all trees that I have found list his father as Isaac Ammerman born 1721 and his mother as Jannetje. However this would mean he fathered children at an age of 9! It seems that I am the only one that has found issues with this as so many have listed this info on their family trees. Does anyone out there have any info on this man?
