Hello, I have just found the posting on the internet about the Ammons relatives. I apologize for taking so long to reply to you, however we are related. There were 4 brothers that came from Germany and your dad has three of the names and my cousin you met in Tn. should know her mother was sister to my father. My father name was Ashley Jackson Ammons, his grandfather was William Ammons; who brothers were John, Richard, and William, Charles. I have information on my grandfathers brothers and their children and grandchildrens name; at least most of them. We had a Ammons reunion in 1998 for the first time ever while my father was alive.
I have most of the info because was trying to get a family tree to no avail. would like to talk more to you about this.

Re: SC Ammon/Ammons/Auman Wills

My Ammons families were in Camden District (later divided into Kershaw and Sumter Counties) by 1820.
The names: Thomas, Richard, James, William appear repeatedly through the generations. However I do not know where my Amons (Ammons) ancestors were before them came into the Camden District. I do find Richard and Thomas Amons in the 1820 Census of Sumter District, SC. My 2X great-grandfather was Thomas Ammons (b. 1815 and died during Civil War). His wife was Milly Partin. I believe that the Richard Amons in the 1820 census was his uncle. The Thomas Amons on that same census page, may have been his father. Any help in connecting the families and finding where they were before SC would be most appreciated. I will be glad to share what I have and would give credit for any help that I receive. You can contact me directly by email: jgurley@gmail.com
Thanks so much,
Hello,
Do you know if there is any connectin between you NC Ammons and the Ammons families who were in Camden Distric, SC by 1820. At that time, the Camden District went all the way to the North Carolina State Line. Later York, Lancaster, Kershaw, and Sumter Counties were formed. My Ammons ancestors were in Kershaw County and Sumter County. But I do not know where they were before that. The names: Richard, Thomas, James, John, William, appear over and over through the my Ammons family lines. I live in North Carolina and know NC Ammons folks, but cannot find any ties to where mine were before they were in South Carolina. Any help would be appreciated and credit given for any sources received. You can contact me directly by email: jgurley1703@gmail.com
Thanks so much.

Hi Candy,
I have just a tiny bit of progress, but not enough to count. I was always told that my Ammons ancestors came fro Northern Ireland. So, I am not sure. I was told by my grandmother that her great-grandfather and his brother came together from Ireland. But that is just word of mouth handed down. The earliest reacords I find are in South Carolina of Richard and Thomas Amons (possibley my 3X great grandfather) in the 1820 Census, Sumter District. Richard appears in the 1830, 1840, and 1850 Census records, documenting his birth year as 1785.
I locate my 2X great-grandfather Thomas Ammons (b. 1815) in the 1850 Census with wife Milly. I believe that he is the nephew of Richard Amons.
Any help would be appreciated and I would give credit for any help or resources received.
Contact me directly by email: jgurley1703@gmail.com
Thanks so much.

Hello,
I would be glad to share any information I have on my Ammons line and would appreciate any help that you can provide. I have come to a brick wall with my Ammons research. My Ammons ancestors were in Camden District,SC in the late 1700's. This was later the same area as Kershaw and Sumter Counties of SC now. I have traced back to Thomas and Milly Partin Ammons (2Xgreat grandparents) through the Civil War. He died at Manassus Junction, VA. I can find her in later census records. I am not certain who his parents were but can find a Richard Amons and a Thomas Amons in the 1820 census in that area of SC. Both of these names appear frequently through later generations. I also have anecdotal evidence that that the grandchidlren of Richard were cousins of my Thomas Ammons (2Xgreat-grandfather). I make an assumption that the Thomas Amons that I find in the 1820 census (Kershaw County) on the same page as Richard Ammons may be the father of Thomas Ammons who was born in 1815 and therefore my 3X great-grandfather.
If you or anyone you know could help me with this I would really appreciate it. I would also site all sources.
Thanks. You may contact me by email: jgurley1703V@gmail.com

Thanks very much

Thank you, my husband was born a conder and his mother fought to get him from his father and then put him up for adoption, he was adopted by family members, that were way to old to adopt a toddler. I have been trying for a year to connect him with some family, and knowing nothing to go on except Samuel and Virginia its really hard, but I swore I wouldn't stop, and I determined to do this.

Thank You again, and have a great day.

Diana

The Jacob and Conrad Amman I track was from York/Lancaster area, who baptism records are on ancestry. There is a will in Washington Co PA dated 1821 which lists his wife and children, But i do not know where his siblings resided, there is always people who get hung up on ammons, ammon, and amman, but i disregard the spelling and track them via documents. I always have wondered if some of them from york and lancaster counties migrated west to southwestern PA, then south to NC and SC and GA? any ideas. There are several ammons on the ships that came over mid 1700. Which one in Philadelphia are you talking about? Have you checked out Conrad/Jacob Ammon in the baptism records on ancestry and come to any conclusions?

But once in awhile i get a relative of an ammons who is researching who has some history from family and I get a few more bits and pieces and sometimes I have gotten photos. Plus I have a lot of documents on my lines from genealogy trips. I try to post the content of them on message boards so people can use them.

Good questions Candy. There is lots of disagreement and very little evidence when we get back that far on my Ammons lines. Send me your email and I will send you all I have. Now my line is John Ammons who I believe came from Germany, not Jacob Ammons.

A lot of my information comes from online posts. If you look for John Thomas Ammons, born 1705 on the world connect project at:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi

You will find 4 entries. One is from a cousin of mine Don Wall. His email contact information can be found there. My family ties into the Ammons family through Margaret Louise Ammons who married Athea Allen Wall in 1873. That is where the Wall and Ammons lines intersect (at least for me).

All 4 entries at rootsweb probably come from a single original source. They all hold that John George Ammons was born in 1705 in Weurttemburg Germany and that he was married to Rosina. They list the same 8 children for John and Rosina. Those children are: Francis Ammons (born 1739 in Sterenfels, Wuerttemburg, Germany), Jacob Ammons (born 1740 in Sterenfels, Wuerttemburg, Germany), Daniel Ammons (born about 1740 in Sterenfels, Wuerttemburg, Germany), Jesse Ammons (born 1742 in Sterenfels, Wuerttemburg, Germany), Christian Ammons (born August 28, 1743 in Sterenfels, Wuerttemburg, Germany), John Thomas Ammons (born 1748 in VA), Joshua Ammons (born Jan 22, 1756 in Brunswick County Virginia), and Luther Ammons (born 1757). This is Don Wall’s list.

From this information, it appears that the Ammons family emigrated from Germany to Virginia sometime between Christian’s birth in 1743 and John Thomas’ birth in 1748.

Don is the only of the four posters to place John Thomas Ammons birth in Virginia. The other three posters all put his birth at Donegal, Westmoreland County Pennsylvania. I believe the Pennsylvania connection to be correct but the only source I can find is the rootsweb GEDCOM posted by Michael Canary.

The line firms up with John Thomas Ammons who left a will in SC in 1817 (as Thomas Ammons) and his brother Joshua Ammons who left a lot of records in SC.

Now the Jacob Ammons line is different. There is a Jacob Ammons who arrived in Philadelphia on the “Thistle” August 29, 1730. I believe that this is a Scots-Irish line not a German line and has not blood connection to mine. But, there are some hints that they might have been from Switzerland before Scotland and that the lines may tie in further back than we now know.

There are internet posts and information that link these families several ways and there are several opinions out there. The work of Jon Gary Dean connects these two families making John Thomas Ammons the son of Jacob Ammons. I believe this to be in error, but it has been copied and posted many times.
This John Ammons could possibly be an ancestor of my Ammons line....
I continue to hope that someone can help me connect my Kershaw County / Sumter District Ammons line with ancestors. I can go back as far as my great-grandfather and possibly my great-grandfather, but not really anything specific beyound that. I would be very appreciative of the help. Please see my file at www.wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com
Enter the username: jgurley into the box for the database.
My grandparents were Benjamin Caughman Ammons and Eliza Gardner Ammons. My great-grandfather was Thomas Ammons who married Milly (Millie)Partin. I believe that his father was Richard Ammons (Amons). I also have an Ancestry.com file and would be willing to share that info also. Write me directly at jgurley@gmail.com
I did have a great-uncle named John Ammons who could have been named for this John Ammons.
My great-grandfather was Thomas Ammons who married Milly (Millie)Partin. I believe that his father was Richard Ammons (Amons).
Re: Ammons of Western NC, (Macon, Cherokee Counties etc)

Joyce, I show Jessie Ambrose Ammons father being Allen Ammons b. Sep 1802, his father Ephraim V. Ammons b. 1778 in SC.

I am a descendant of Ephraim, his father was Thomas b. 1748, mostly likely NC. That is about as far as I can go back with any supporting sources. There is a lot of of info out there on our original immigrant, but the sources for the data is not there, therefore, we all are trying to put this puzzle together using bits and pieces of information. At this point in time I feel our original immigrant is the John Ammon who arrived with a group to settle New Bern, NC around 1710, and being the same John Ammon who d. 1760 near the Va. line. Feel free to e-mail if you have any questions.. jtaz1957@bellsouth.net

Judson Ammons

Catherine Friday Ammons

My gggggrandmother was Catherine F Ammons; she was born about 1822 in TN, and moved to IL when she was about nine. I've found one record that indicates her middle name was "Friday". I have tentatively identified her father as Thomas Ammons, who was born about 1793 in Georgia and whom I believe was the son of Thomas Ammons and Catherine Friday Ammons. Does anyone have any information, good or bad, on this tentative line?
