Nancy Jane ??

My greatgrandmother (Abigill Morrison) married Marion Jasper Amyx abt 1859. In Cumberland county Kentucky. They had a daughter Nancy Jane. He passed away shortly thereafter. I have good history on her and her new husband, Richard Renick. I have tried to research Nancy Jane, but can't make a clear connection. I believe she died in Attica, Indiana in the late 30's.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
William Renick

Eliza J. Amyx and W.C. Owens

According to his 1917 marriage certificate, James Owen(s) was born in Horse Cave, Hart, Kentucky around 1890-91. He stated that his parents were W.C. Owens and Eliza J. Amyx.

Does anyone have any information on these two?

There is an Eliza Amyx b. Sept. 6, 1857 in Monroe, KY to Cornelius Amyx and Elizabeth Gillenwater. There is an Eliza Amix, age 3, listed in the 1860 census in Hawkins, TN with parents Cornelius and Elizabeth Amyx.

There is also an Eliza J. Amyx age 6 living with a family named Morrison b. in 1864 in the 1870 census.

I don't know if it is the same person or not. Cornelius Amyx lived until after 1891, so it seems unlikely that his daughter would have been living with someone else.

Hi Gloria,
your posts have been quite helpful! I just posted to someone who responded to you but wanted to share the same info here.My great, great grandfather, George Emack was listed on the 1880 census as living in Madison Ct ( where I am from)and was married to maria. he was a harness maker. he listed his parents as both being born in Ireland. He is buried in Madison Ct as well. Also, you may know this already....but have you researched Captian George Emack from the Company B First maryland calvary? he is written about in Retreat From Gettesburg on page 137. There is also a photo. Any info on the Emack family will be of great help!

I am just starting out on this journey. I am an EMACK from Ct. In the past few days I have discovered census records from 1880 that state that my g..g grandfather, George Emack lived in madison Ct, was a harness maker and was married to Maria. He listed both of his parents as being born in IRELAND. There is another George Emack from Versailles, Kentucky who was in the battel of Gettesburg. He was a Captian George Emack ...Company B First maryland calvary. There is a book called RETREAT FROM GETTYSBURG and he is written about on page 137. There is a photo of him. I do not know yet if he is connected to my branch of the Emack tree.
Kristen Emack

Matthew AMYX 1715-1779 DNA match

A descendant of Matthew AMYX has had a DNA match with a descendant of William EMMACK/EMMICK who was born about 1805 in Ireland.

Knowing that they do not have a common ancestor in 7 generations (the length from the person tested to Matthew AMYX), and based on those markers on which they differ, there is a 78.39% chance that their common ancestor is within 12 generations, 92.31% chance the common ancestor is within 16 generations, 97.58% chance the commons ancestor is within 20 generations, and 99.3% within 24 generations.

The results are listed at:
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/amy/results

Rick Saunders
AMY-AMIGH-EMIGH DNA Group Coordinator

Hi Lindy,
I saw your message to Justin and recognized your father. My husband is Terry Amyx a cousin of yours. He is a descendant of Peter, William Boyd, Will, Harrison, Kodie from Magoffin County. We live in Magoffin County near the Granddaddy Branch which is still owned by the Amyx's. We are planning to visit your Dad soon. We have heard a lot about him.
Terry wanted me to post this hoping that you or someone can help find a couple who he met when he was stationed in Ft. Rooker AL in 1968. He met a lady who was working on post at a PX and saw that her name was "AMYX" on her name tag. He then found that her husband was from West Liberty. They had invited him to dinner but they scheduled him to work so he could make it. This was in May, 1968 and he was discharged shortly thereafter and came home to KY. He never saw them again and can't remember their names, but he would like to apologize for not showing up for dinner (almost 32 years late). He would also like to see or hear from them. He was so excited to have found them in 1968. Our e-mail address is gatalog@yahoo.com 606 349-5697
our address:
Terry Amyx, H.C. 62 Box 1120, Salyersville, KY 41465.
p.s. would also like to talk with you and share Amyx information. I have a lot on William Boyd's descendants but not much on your line. Keep in touch. Thanks.

Matthew Emack's will waslisted in Over the Mountain Men. It lists his children and his will is on file along with deeds in Fincastle, VA. His sons later changed their name to Amyx and it stuck, even though they were listed in the American Revolutionary War under the spelling of Amos, Amox, Amix, and other spellings. I have talked recently with a person who claims she descended from Matthew Jr. and they still spell the name Amick. Now, I find that interesting, because everyone I know is related spells it Amyx. I have never heard the story you told about three brothers coming over from Ireland.
