Elizabeth Anawalt b. 26 Dec 1818 d. 11 Aug 1882 Lehighton Carbon Co. PA

I have been looking for 10 years for information concerning Elizabeth Anawalt and her husband, Wendall Swartz/Schwartz. They lived in Lehighton and Lower Towamensing. I only recently found her maiden name in a transcription of Carbon County tombstones which has her buried in the Lehighton Cemetary with headstone reading "Elizabeth Anawalt wife of Wendall Swartz." She is buried alone, and Wendall did not die until after 1900. I have not been able to find his grave.

Does anyone have any information they could share? Their daughter, Ella Priscilla Swartz/Schwartz b. 15 Dec 1858, was my great-grandmother.

Does anyone have a family bible that helps prove or disprove the parentage of Jeremiah Sampsell Anawalt. John and Sallie Sampsell married two years before Jeremiahs birth in April 1837. There are those who really think he is the son of Jacob and Sarah Anawalt. The only written proof is a copy of a letter from given by Sallie Roe in Marceline Mo about 1954 where she lists a Jeremiah Anawalt Sampsel. But she has him being buried at Laport Missouri. I have a photo of his tombstone in Okmulgee b. 1936 d. 1915. I do have a part copy of the Anawalt family History compiled by John Wakefield in about 1935 in Winneteka Illinois given to me by the wife of Floyd I believe. He was the last the Anawalt children who died in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Is there wills for either Jacob Anawalt or John Sampsel listing children? I have pension and land records for Jacob Anawalt but have not found a will. Anyone know of a tying link?

I would be happy to share whatever I have. I'll try and get a copy in the mail before I go to a Family History Conference next week. I've looked for so many years that I don't know where to look either. Maybe I'll find some time to do some looking in the evenings after classes. I hope so.

There's someone in Texas who may have more info. The person who has helped me is Terry Soboski.

If you'll give me your address I'll get it in the mail.

Ilene

Jeremiah Anawalt

Phyllis:

I am wondering if you have learned any more about the history of Jeremiah Anawalt. I am a great-grandson of Jeremiah Anawalt. My mother was Lucile Guckian Harvey and my grandmother was Ola Faye Anawalt (she married Charles Guckian and lived in Okmulgee).

My mom was born in 1908 and died in 2002. I think it was in 1988 when we were in Okmulgee and we went by the cemetary. She remarked that she was the same age as Jeremiah when he died and she as a little girl had gone to his funeral and she remembered how old he had seemed to her and there she was the same age and not feeling old at all.

I am interested in knowing more about Jeremiah. My sisters have some of the old pictures that include Aunt Mertie and Uncle Ernie. My son and I have both remarked how much we look like Uncle Ernie. My sisters look a lot like Ola Faye and her mother. I am curious as to whether Jeremiah served in the Union Army.

Charles Harvey
Lake Charles, Louisiana
harvey1718@aol.com

Thank you for getting back to me. I have not seen the Anawalt History by John Anawalt Wakefield but I have seen the Wakefield memorial by Wakefield, Homer, Date of Publication: 1897. It has a small section on John Anawalt Wakefield and family. Is the Anawalt History on line or do you have a copy of it?

I have Jacob Anawal
1850 Census Lewis County, Virginia
1860 Census Weston, Lewis County, Virginia
1870 Census York Township, Elkart, Indiana ( he was living with daughter >Catherine Fredricka Anawalt and 2nd husband D. E. Martin and family.

If you need copies of these census let me know I have them saved into my family tree and can send them to you by e-mail.

I have the census for John and Sallie Sampsell for
1850 Census Lewis County, Virginia
1860 Census Weston, Lewis County, Virginia
1880 Census Duncan, Sullivan County, Missouri

I could not find a 1870 Census for them have you found one?

Do you know if both are buried in Jenkins Cemetery, Browning, Sullivan County, Missouri or just John? I do not know where I got the info from after my computer crashed. I had also that John and Sallie died in Macon county so why would they be in a cemetery in another county? But then they may be next to each other I am not up on which countys are near each other in Missouri.

Thanks for any help,
Lori Kessler
Hopefully I will get back to it soon. I'll send what I have.... Do you have the Anawalt History by John Anawalt Wakefield? It was written about 1935 in Illinois. I have not seen a book form, only a manuscript form. The last place I found Jacob was Lewis County Virginia in the 1850 census.John and Sallie Anawalt Sampsel lived nearby. Hope to hear from you soon. Ilene Hawkins.

My husband had backed up my family tree a few months before on a CD so I didn't have to start from the start rebuilding, but I had info that I thought I had lots of time it put in my tree that is now lost forever.

I would like any and all info, but what I am working on now is Jacob Anawalt &Anna Mariah or Maria "Mary" Sutter, their children and grandchildren and great grandchildren and down. I do have some info on them, but would love to check and see if I am on the right track. My e-mail address is Kesslori@yahoo.com.

Thanks so much for all of your help,
Lori

Anawalt and am interested in collecting, organizing and sharing family history documentation and stories.

I would especially appreciate information about Jeremiah and William Jacob.
Jeremiah Sampsell Anawalt was my great grandfather. His daughter Merta Mae(Anawalt)Miner was my grandmother. Her son,Paul Philip Miner, was my father.
As you probably know, the 1850 census show Jeremiah as a part of the Jacob Anawalt family.Since it seems that Sallie and John were not married at the time of Jeremiah's birth, that is why we know him as Jeremiah Sampsell Anawalt and why he appears on the census with the Jacob Anawalt family. You asked about his burial place. It is in the Okmulgee Ok. cemetary in Okmulgee,Ok.Hope I haven't confused the issue further for you. Would be interested in your ideas and info.
Hi! Terri is this the same Jeremiah sampsel anawalt who married Catherine sponaugle and then went on to have William Jacob Anawalt. William married Mollie Fletcher and then Susan Elizabeth Kirkendale. William and Susan went on to have 5 children but only Elmer and Gladys made it to adulthood if so Jeremiah is my Great Great Grandfather, William is my Great Grandfather and Susan my Great Grandmother and Gladys is my Grandmother. She married a Jacob Sawyer Halsey. He was killed in an auto versus pedestrian on October 24,1945. They had ten kids, but only 5 girls and 1 boy survived to adulthood. My mother Barbara Ann Halsey being one of them. She married my father Charles Melville Shaw. Well Hope to hear from you.
Carla Sue Shaw Johnson
