Odom line that married Samantha Anchors

I'm trying to research the Odom line of my tree and I've hit roadblocks. I know that Morris Hubbard Odom married Samantha Anchors in the early 1900's. He died in 1914 when my grandfather was less than a year old. She then married a Holston.

I know that Morris's parents were Morris H and Merinda Odom and they lived in Washington County, Georgia, but that's as far back as I can go. I was wondering if anyone who is connected to this family has any information that can help me.

Allison Odom Wells

I am trying to build my family tree. The earliest I have are all in Cheshire starting with William Ankers b.abt 1813 in Tattenhall d.16 Aug 1878 in Saighton. He married Mary Anne Hopley (b.1812 in Bickley d.1885 in Saighton) at St. Peters Chuch Hargrave in 1841 and they had a son John Ankers b.abt 1844 in Hargrave and married Elizabeth ?. They had 7 children Esther, Tom, William, Thomas,Sarah E, Lucy jane and Rolla. Of those William b.1867 in Christleton married Elizabeth McConkie and they had 6 children one of whom was John Saville Ankers b.6 Apr 1887 in Hurwoth Durham Yorkshire and d.1970. He married Beatrice E Lowery and they had 4 children. Their eldest son John William Ankers was born 27 Aug 1914 in Easington,Seaham Harbour,Durham Yorkshire. He was my father. His father and family migrated to Australia in 1927 and returned to England in 1938 with the exception of my father who stayed in Australia where I was born. He died in 1980 and my mother died in 1982.

my father's siblings didn't have any sons and I was the only son to my father. Luckily I had 1 son and 4 daughters and my son has 3 sons so this branch of the family will continue for some time I hope.

I am interested in the earlier history of the family and want to find out about the movement of my Great Grandfather William from Cheshire to Yorkshire.

Any information that you can provide me will be gratefully accepted and hopefully we can invite each other to look at our family trees.

Yours sincerely

John William Ankers called "Bill"

Katie,
If you are going to be in town this week I will be in Talladega. I have recently taken a job at the Honda plant in Lincoln and have started laying over Mon. thru Wed. at my Bro. in Law's farm about 20 miles away. Otherwise it is 60 miles from my home south of B'ham. All I have on Clydes family are birth date years for the children Irma, Hubert, and Vivian. No marriages, children, death dates, etc. All I have for his wife Sula Morrow is her name only. If you can fill out that tree for me it would be great. As it is the male line of Snowden Taylor Anchors may die out with this generation. Both Jerry and Michael Anchors have girls and may be done raising a family. The same with another cousin from the line of Clydes Brother Edward. Please email me at uffbear@aol.com and I will share my cell # and some stories for you. Do not want to post too much info on line but would be glad to send to you by email or phone! Cuz Al

Thank you Al, We should be in Auburn on Sunday or Monday. We stay a couple of nights in town then head for my brother's place in the country around Notasulga. I would love to get more info from you. I especially love the stories. Guess I am a true southerner in that way. I was born and raised in Selma, where some of the family moved. I am trying to write down as much as I can for our very small next generation, since I am the only one of my family to remember much about the Anchors side (and that is not much!) Look forward to hearing from you soon. Katie

Hello Katie! I am your cousin but off your branch. My Great Grandfather was Frank Anchors. He was the Brother of John Oscar Anchors. I can trace the family line back to 1665. I am sure that I do not have all the info on your family line present. Would love to update. My Mother was Marian Louise Anchors. You have several cousins descended from the line of John Oscar. One is Jerry Anchors in Atlanta and Dr. Michael Anchors in maryland. They are descended from Clydes Brother Ray. I am currently away from home and have all my FTM files there. I will be back Thursday evening and can give you some good info and contacts by Sunday. I can also tell you sone stories and point you to areas of interest, graves etc., for your trip. I also live near B'ham. If you go my Ancestry family tree info you should be able to view the entire family line from John Oscars Father, Snowden Taylor Anchors, back thru his Paternal line Francis, Snowden Sr., Edward, Edward, and finaly John Anchors arriving in Maryland 1665. Kindest regards, Cuz Al

Re: Edward Anchors and Ann Snowden Taylor

My line runs from the brother of Ann Nancy Ankers. Snowden Anchors, Sr. His grandson Snowden Taylor Anchors, my great great grandfather, left Maryland in the 1840's with Allen Anchors and Samuel M. Anchors to work for the railroad in Georgia. All three married Georgia girls with Samuel staying near Macon, Allen moving to Talladega, Alabama, and Snowden moving to Shelby, Alabama before 1860. Most of what you will find is well documented by researchers from the Anchors family. Some of the Snowden Sr. family moved on to Ohio and Penn. "The Northern Branch" They have a family reunion most years and one of their researchers is Don Anchors in California. You will find many postings from Don on Ancestry. One line of the family moved to Virginia and uses the Ankers spelling. They still have the cradle brought from England or Ireland by John Anchors in 1665 to Anne Arundle Co., Maryland. It is said to date from Ireland in the 1500's. This line also has family reunions and has great family documentation. The "Southern branch" from Samuel M. Anchors has been having family reunions for a number of years dating way back. In 2000 when I started researching the family I was lucky to link up with Don in California who put me in touch with my Georgia cousins. We have unfortunately not had a family reunion the past year due to poor health for Cecil Anchors. Cecil is the official patriarc of this line and the driving force. I hope we can start getting back together again. I would be glad to help you with any family questions you may have. We have very little on Ann Nancy and Daniel Pierce. Only their birth, marriage, and a death date for Daniel. No children. Would appreciate any info you may have on this line. My Mother was Marian Louise Anchors the great grandaughter of Snowden Taylor. You can email me at UFFBEAR@aol.com if you wish. Kindest regards and always glad to hear from cousins no matter how near or far on the tree! Allen J. Uffinger in Helena, Al.

But I see no note of Samual. Panama must be a contrast to Liverpool!!Have been doing minor researh on my mother's father-surname Crowe- (Australian)who was killed at Gallipoli. Received copies of his military file so we are going end of March to visit his grave at Lone Pine cemetary then spend a month or so around Turkey. If you want to communicate my E mail is Davidanchor@xtra.co.nz Bye for now

Dear Warren and Sharon, Nice to hear from you both. My earliest ANKERS starts in the late 1600's with Richard (one about 1670) and I have several ANKERS that I do not know what happened to them just yet.

You can view my entire family (10,000+) including the ANKERS at Rootsweb world connect site where I have posted a Gedcom for viewing. Go to;
http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?d...

Either select "A" or type in ANKERS for a search. You can run several different reports after you select a person including a pedigree one which I like to view.

Let me know if you see a connection?

Regards,
Bill Cotgreave
billcot@optonline.net
Long Island, New York, USA

Hello,on this Chandler line they are a bit jumbled.Edmund the first came over in 1630.The edmund you mention was the son of Joseph(who was son of first edmund)the alden kindred claims no children came about of the Alden/chandler marriage.Volume 14 of the Neghs register clarifies this somewhat. If you would like the offshoots of the Chandlers I can give you more detailed info if you want. I would love to compare more, do you
have a site or something to check. I even have Speece, Probasco,Evilsizer,
Carr, Mom said there were LeMaster's in our line, Wood, Woolley, Wooley,
Dorsey, Anchors, Snowden, Taylor, Chandler. Would love to know where
Lightfoot and others fit in. I had been told there was Native American in
our lines, but I have yet to find it.

As I am pretty much homebound, I have only gotten to the library once here
and there sure isn't much for any of the states I search.

I believe I just found information on a George Dorsey, but will have to
check my notes.

My Speece/Spies, and some of the others come from my Neal line married to my
Woolley line. Both of these are grandparents. I didn't see any mention of
Robinson in your lines, do you know of them? They are mentioned in my
partial family Bible too.

I can't thank you enough for your reply and look forward to hearing from you
again and comparing notes.
