James W ANDERSON missing from Plymouth, UK c.1860

Does anyone have a James William ANDERSON in their family born in London, Middlesex, UK (& probably baptised in St Pauls, Covent Garden in December 1828)? His father, also James, was born in Plymouth and his mother, Hannah, was born in London. In 1841, they all lived in Plymouth.

James married Susanna PERKINS in Plymouth in 1850, they had five children (two died) and then he disappeared. Susanna had two more children by another man but she never remarried and always said she was James' wife, never widow.

I wonder if he emigrated...?

My ggggrandfather's name is Levi Anderson, and his father's name was Alexander Anderson. I don't know if Levi had siblings. I know nothing about Alexander and am trying to find out about him. I am interested in finding any living relatives on my Anderson side. Levi was born in KY (maybe Garrard Co) on Jan 1805, he married Margaret Tresner (or Turner) in Washington Co., Indiana on 30 Aug 1827. Children: Hiram, Henry, Uriah. (And maybe more) Levi and Margaret are buried in the New Philadelphia Cemetery near Salem, IN. I would guess Alexander, Levi's father, was born around 1780, maybe in VA or KY.

POW/MIA Korean War , ANDERSON

I am searching for the families of 6 soldiers With the Surname ANDERSON that were POW/MIA in the Korean War.

Soldier; DALE WILLIAM ANDERSON
Born: Feb. 12, 1923
Date of loss: December 26, 1952
Home of record: Corpus Christe, TX

Soldier: ELLSWORTH L ANDERSON
Born: 1923
Date of loss: Jan. 14, 1951
Home of record: COLE COUNTY, MO

Soldier: ROBERT DONALD ANDERSON
Born: Feb. 5, 1929
Date of loss: December 2, 1950
Home of Record: COTTAGE GROVE, WI

Soldier: GLENN MARQUIS ANDERSON
Born: 1920
Date of loss: October 19, 1952
Home of record: SAINT LOUIS, MO

NORBERT OLANDO ANDERSON
Born: 1932
Date of loss: Feb. 14, 1951
Home of record: Milwaukee, WI

Soldier: STANLEY ALEXANDER ANDERSON
Born: 1922
Date of loss: December 2, 1950
Home of record: Terrebonne Parish, LA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. At the present time our government has no family contact for these soldiers.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (78 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I have about ten letters written around 1887 mostly from James ANDERSON, Ann ANDERSON RINGROSE and Ann's daughter Mary RINGROSE LINDSAY to my ggg-grandfather John ANDERSON in Ironton, Ohio, USA. They contain quite a bit of information on the family and I would love to share information with others of the same lines. I don't know anything about my grandfather's family other than what the letter contains. Any information would be great. The postmark on the letters is Newcastle-on-Tyne.

I was recently given an old family photo album that possibly belonged to Anna Maria Anderson Downing or her mother, Mary Janet Lyon Anderson. Anna was born in 1856 in Iowa. She married John Downing of Clay County, IN. Her sister was Lucretia Anderson. She married Albert Stonehart. I believe there are also several pictures of other family members in here too, but I have no way of knowing. Anna and Lucretia's parents were Vincent (1813 KY) and Mary Janet Lyon (1821 KY) Anderson. Anyone who might be able to help identify anyone, please let me know.

John ANDERSON of Virginia -- (1760 - 1826)

I am looking for the ancestry of John Anderson (1760-1826) who was born in Virginia. He was in Montgomery County, Kentucky by at least about 1800. There were four John Andersons in the County making them difficult to trace. He married Mary Robeson about 1798 probably in Montgomery County, Kentucky. The marriage records of Montgomery County, Kentucky burned in the Civil War. Robeson is also spelled Robinson and Robertson but it is Robeson in his son's family Bible. Nothing is known of the Robeson family either. John Anderson died intestate. His children are considered to be James Robeson Anderson (1799-1867), Margaret, Ann, John F. Anderson [the F. may stand for Fowler](1803-1870), Matthew William Anderson (1807-1827), George W. Anderson (1810-1859, my ancestor), and Robert Smith Perry Anderson (1814-1874). No parents or siblings of John Anderson are known. His grandson married a Daniel descended from a Daniel family in Middlesex County, Virginia but this may not mean much. A biography his grandson says John was born in Virginia. The date of his coming to Kentucky is unknown. I seem to note members of the family were not in military service and owned no slaves although they had sufficient affluence to be slave owners and owned land in a slave state. My great grandfather, Matthew William Anderson (1836-1906), refused to serve in the Civil War for either side. After the War he was a Banker in Independence, Missouri. There were a large number of Andersons in early Montgomery County, Kentucky and surrounding Counties of no known relationship to one another. William Anderson LaBach in Lexington, Kentucky.

John B. Anderson II(27 Jan. 1779-27 May 1851) had one known son by his first wife (name unknown). Son was David Anderson (23 Sept. 1800-9 Feb. 1882). John B. m2 Mary Burk and had John, William, Samuel, Susan, and Daniel; maybe others. All named came from Monmouth Co., NJ to Bartholomew Co., Indiana; believe Susan went back to NJ.

David Anderson m. Eleanor Carr, 7 Oct. 1823 (suppose in Monmouth Co., but not confirmed) and had Parmelia, Sarah, Combs, John, Joseph, and David. Have long suspected that Combs was a family surname, but no evidence. Sometimes spelled "Coombs." Can you shed any new light on this family?

Looking for information on Louie and Enfred Anderson. I have been told that they are relatives of mine but don't know how. What I know about these two is that Enfred was Louie's son. Some time around 1916 - 1918 the family moved from Two Harbors, MN to Coral Gables, FL. Enfred had a son who was born some time in the 1920's and served in the Navy between 1942 and 1945 maybe longer and may have been named Wayne. I will post an update if I can find out more information (approximate birth dates and stuff). Thank you.

I am looking for any info on my Great Grandfather. His name was William Irvin Anderson and was born in Mississippi in 1849. He had a brother Jasper Monroe Anderson who was born in 1856 in Louisiana. At least this is what we think. They came to Freestone County, Texas about 1860 and are buried there in Turlington, Texas in Mt. Zion Cemetery. I can find no info on their parents. I understand they left 2 sisters in Mississippi or Alabama, Hannah & Rachel. Apparently they were older than the boys.I understand they came to Freestone County with their mother. I think she was Cyntha.

Noble Anderson of Pendleton/Pickens SC

Old Pendleton District where Noble Anderson lived split into Pickens & Anderson counties about 1826 and the land where Noble's family lived fell into Pickens Co. Recently, two deeds were discovered in Pickens Co. Deed records (film 024270). Here is the abstracted version - anyone wanting the full deed, or full page of notes on Noble Anderson just write to me.
Deed BK - Vol. B1, pg. 306 - Sheriff William D. Sloan to Jesse George (of Rabun Co., GA)
Sheriff Sloan states that he was ordered by the court 12 Oct 1832 to seize the "goods, chattels & tenements" of Noble Anderson to levy the sum of $42.49 to satisfy damages and court costs owed by Anderson. The sheriff describes lands taken as 288 acres situated in Pickens Co. known as Tract No. 1 lying on a bold branch of Long Creek adj. Doc. Wm. Hunter, dec'd and Mackey Brown. The land was sold at public sale for $20. to Jesse George of Rabun Co., GA for $20.00, paid by Thomas Blackburn (probably an atty.)
John Edwards & Edward Harris witnessed.
The Noble Anderson family was sitting in Rabun Co., GA in 1830 census waiting for their Cherokee Land Lottery draw.

Pamela G. Smith
Gresham, OR
Wm. Anderson, Jr. 1828-1905 born in PA

Hello,

I am new to genealogy searching. I thought I would post this, so that it would help others and hopefully lead me to further info.

My g-g-g-g-g-g-grandfather was William Anderson [1722-??] born in County Down Ireland. His ancestors had removed from Scotland to Ireland about 1700. The family were farmers.

His son, Andrew, was a manufacturer/dealer of linen cloth and owned a small farm, where he lived. He married and had 11 children.

The 6th of these was William Sr. [1784-1858]. His first wife was Margaret Haddon. They had 2 girls, but Margaret and one of the daughters died. William took his other daughter, Mary Ann and moved from Ballykelly in 1816 to America. They traveled by wagon 3 weeks from Baltimore, MD to Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Anderson settled on a farm in Moontownship and married Nancy Arnold (she was a native to Ireland as well). They had 8 children, of whom William Jr. [1828-1905] was the 4th and only son. The majority of the content will be about him.

(just an aside, William Sr.'s daughter, Mary Ann, married a gentleman named Cornelius and moved to Ohio. They had a son, Maxwell, who became a minister and a great friend of Pres. McKinley, and came from California to take part in Pres. McKinley's service when he died. He also had a brother and nephew who were minsters - though I have no idea what their last name was, nor what church they were ministers in)

In 1839 William Sr. and Nancy moved to Allegheny city. This William Sr. was a Democrat, an active worker in the Washingtonian Temperance Movement and a member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

William Jr. was 11 when they moved to Alleghany. A year later he left school to go work for the local newspaper and would work in that field for 60 years. When he died in 1905 he was the Dean of the Pittsburgh Newspaper Men.

He began as a "printer's devil" and rose from that humble position to Editor-In-Chief. He first entered the office of the Conference Journal as roller boy, but soon after took the same position in the office of the Gazette where he worked 7 years.

...to be continued

Old Photo of Daniel & Mollie Anderson - Likely 1870

I recently purchased a bunch of old photos. One of the photos shows a man with his wife and is labeled on the back "Daniel & Mollie Anderson - Presented to F & N Goodrich with much love". Unfortunately I do not know where this photo was taken. I would guess that this photo was taken around 1865-1870.

Attached is a copy of the photo. If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

I am new at searching for this, but I show William Anderson related to my grandfather. I have always been told that we have a Native American background, but it has been difficult to locate. My grandfather is Leslie Eugene Anderson who's father is William Eli Anderson born of Thomas Burelson Anderson, the child of William Anderson from Indiana and Elizabeth Caughman. It also shows Sarah Rodgers and Peter Anderson as Williams parents. How do I find out if my family was Native? I was also told that my grandfather (Leslie Eugene Anderson)mother is Native. Her name is Frances Lydia Elizabeth Sumner. I was told that back in the early 1900's land was taken from my grandmother..the "Sumner Estate". Still can't locate anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
