Classification: Query
Surnames: Andert, Altschuler, Hildebrandt
I have received death certificate for Joseph Andert who was married to Celia Altschuler. All the following information is from the death certificate only.
Joseph (L possibly) Andert was born March 17, 1888 in Rarshoff, Russia
Father - Jacob Andert, born - Unknown, Germany
Mother - Julia Hildebrandt, born - unknown, Germany
Died - September 13, 1924 in Eastford, Ct from Typhoid Fever
He was a farmer. His wife Celia survives.
Questions - Where is Rarshoff, Russia - I cannot find it anywhere in the world. It is is said in Russian or Yiddish what would the sounds of the word translate to?
As far as I know, both Celia and Joseph were Russian Jews.
Question - Certificate says he was embalmed. I didn't think Jews were embalmed, but excuse my ignorance if I am wrong about this.
Is there any German databases I can look at anywhere? If so - what are the links please.
If anyone can give me a clue here, I sure would appreciate it. I am totally lost as to where to look next.
Thanks so much fellow genners
