Andert, Altschuler and Hildebrandt Connection

I have received death certificate for Joseph Andert who was married to Celia Altschuler. All the following information is from the death certificate only.

Joseph (L possibly) Andert was born March 17, 1888 in Rarshoff, Russia
Father - Jacob Andert, born - Unknown, Germany
Mother - Julia Hildebrandt, born - unknown, Germany
Died - September 13, 1924 in Eastford, Ct from Typhoid Fever

He was a farmer. His wife Celia survives.

Questions - Where is Rarshoff, Russia - I cannot find it anywhere in the world. It is is said in Russian or Yiddish what would the sounds of the word translate to?

As far as I know, both Celia and Joseph were Russian Jews.

Question - Certificate says he was embalmed. I didn't think Jews were embalmed, but excuse my ignorance if I am wrong about this.

Is there any German databases I can look at anywhere? If so - what are the links please.

If anyone can give me a clue here, I sure would appreciate it. I am totally lost as to where to look next.

Thanks so much fellow genners

Van,
Thank you so much for your reply. I have found out definately that the second Jennie you mentioned daugh. of William Lemon Van Curen is the correct Jennie b 1880 (my great grandmother). She married Frederick, they had my grandfather (Louis Eugene Kinsey): unfortunately he was gone before I was born but much of the Kinsey family still lives in Kosciusko Co (I was also born there).
My heart leapt when you stated you you have letters from mathias. I would truly appreciate those with translations as you stated.
Gene (and others)
I know you've done a huge amount of research on the Hamman/Koscuisko Co, IN family and I'm trying to find info about my great-great grandfather (maternal side) William Lemon/Ladanna VanCuren.
I know for a fact that his wife was Rachel Solestia Roath (the gravestone is in Warsaw Indiana): mother of Jennie Marie VanCuren, my great grandmother. Problem...
There are two William VanCurens: one born 1820, parents Benjamin and Clara, I believe, and the other born many years later. The 1820 William states Diana Elliott (3rd wife) was the mother of Jennie, which I am 95% sure is not true (marker and family memory withstanding). Does anyone have any info that would verify which William is the correct father of jennie Marie VanCuren who married Fredrick Kinsey? Thanks!

Anton Andert Sons

My mother, Elma, married Henry "Hank" John Andert in 1950. We lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and visited Hank's family in Minnesota. His father Anton and mother Ida Bell lived in Glenwood, Minn at the time and had sons Paul, George, daughter (Mary?), Bill and Lawrence. I was roughly the same age as Lawrence's young son, David (born around 1945). Lawrence lived in Minneapolis. I will post some family photos on my home page asap, and am emailing some to Dennis Roeber. I've been in touch with Tom Andert and was directed to this BB by him today.

My sister-in-law's sister, Peggy Louise Wimer, was married to Clarence Andert. They are both gone now. They are buried in a small cemetery in SE Kansas, with other Wimer's and some of my family as well. My sister-in-law and all her family are gone now, so have no one else to contact. I found that "Andy's" mother was a Gottschalk, so wondered if you might be connected to them.

Adam Andert

Seeking any information about Adam Andert, my grandfather. He married my grandmother, Johanna Gottschalk, and they lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois. Both were Germans from Russia, living in Beresowo Hath and Novin in the Volhynia area near Zhitomir, Ukraine.

I believe Adam Andert's father was Karl, and that he had a brother named Johann. Earlier information I have on the Andert family shows they were from Papenbruch, Brandenburg, Germany (near Wittstock).

Re: VanCuren lineage

In case you haven't sorted out your Van Curen Dilema, I can provide you the answers you are looking for, including a complete family history back to the early 1500s, and the point of origin, Cologne.(Wolfaert van Ceulen, b. @ 1520, Cologne) William Ladanna Van Curen and twin Willis Johiel Van Curen were born Dec, 1819, Spafford, Onandaga County, New York, sons of Henricus Van Keuren(aka Henry Van Curen) and Rebecca Ostrander. William L married his 3rd wife, Dianna Elliott, May 16, 1872, in Jasper County Missouri. They are listed in New Mexico in the 1900 census. They had a daughter named Jennie, b. 1880, but I don't know who she married(if anyone). William Lemon Van Curen was b. Nov 23, 1848, Kosciusco Co, Indiana, s.o. Benjamin Van Curen and Eliza Crouch. He married first to Rachel Roath, and 2nd to Delilah Gillespie Bohlenbaugh. William and Rachel's daughter, Jennie Marie, was born Kosciusco Aug 19, 1880. She married Frederick Kinsey Oct 7, 1899. It is easy to see how the 2 Jennies could be mistaken, since they were both daughters of a William L and both were born in 1880. If you are interested, I have possession of 21 letters written by Jennie's 6th great grandfather, Mathijs Jansen van Ceulen, from 1636-1641. I would be happy to e-mail you a scanned copy of one, complete with translation. Mathijs arrived in New York from Recife Brazil in 1641, following a five year run as one of the governors of the Brazil Colony.

Van
