There are many Andress in Haskell, TX and buried in the cemetaries at Haskell, Old Gory, and Rule, TX. The 1920 census worker had poor penmanship and the name appears as Anchers instead of Andress. There were many Andress sons in Haskell that married into the numerous Lackey daughters. I have been in the Haskell county courthouse and the person would get mixed up when she entered the births, so the same woman gave birth 7 or 8 months apart.

My great grandparents were married in Cherokee Co., TX.
J. M. Andress (listed as Andrews at times) was born in AL.
Alice Ophelia Hornbuckle was born in TX.
Family later moved to Comanche Co., TX.
Son James Edward married Dovie Lee Smith (my grandparents). They ran the locat telephone exchange in the Sidney community until his relatively early death.
Both of my grandparents and both great grandparents are buied at Sand Hill Cemetery in Comanche Co., TX.
Much of the Andress family moved to the Hamlin, TX area early on. A handfull also to California..

I have all sorts of possible links for J. M. Andress but I have not been able to prove anything. Anyone with ANY info about this branch of Andress' origin ... I would be glad to compare notes and share anything that I have. Thank you.
Donna
I have threads of my Andress family that seem to have gone to Florida and the time period that you mention is the time frame I am having the most problems with. Andrews also seems to be a name recorded many times as well as possibly taking it on intentionally...
I would love to get a copy of the photo mentioned if you are still out there.
Judy, thanks for your inquiry. I have a William Andrews in my line, wife Mary; he died 1640, so obviously not your William. My Jonathon Robert Andress is pretty well documented as having been born 1796; married first to Martha Sheldon from Kortwright, NY, USA; married second to Sally (a/k/a Matilda) Sheldon, believed to be sister of Martha. I currently have no information tying this line to anyone in Canada. Sorry. Best of luck on your search.
Loraine

Judy, I have several William Andresses in my records, but none specifically mention a wife Lydia. However, I do find a reference to "some possible members of Sarah and Stephen (Andress) Sr.'s family" which includes a Lydia--Mrs. Wm. Botsford, as her first husband, and Mr. Neil or Emiel Palmer of Westport, as her second husband. This information apparently came from the 1820 Census of Younge Township, Leeds County. I have found no Canada connections to my own lines. Hope this is of some use to you.

Daniel A. ANDRESS

Seeking information on Daniel A. ANDRESS (born abt 1818 in GA and died after 1880). Married to Nancy WILLIS (born abt 1812 in GA) in 1837 in Campbell Co. GA. I believe Daniel has at least two brothers, Nathaniel and David and they may be the sons of John ANDRESS of South Carolina. Daniel's daughter, Adeline Alceller Andress (born abt 1848 in MO and died 1885 in Cherokee Co TX) was the wife of George Washington ROSS.
Both are buried in Ross-Rude Cemetery in Craft, Cherokee Co. TX. In the 1880 US Fed Census, Cherokee Co. TX, Daniel is 5 households away from the ROSS family. I have not found him in the 1900 Census and the ROSS family is living in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (OK). Family history says that Adeline is a Chickasaw or Cherokee Indian and I am looking for Indian Records on the ANDRESS/WILLIS lines.

My ggrandfather was Jonathan Andrus b. 1844 (married Amarilla Barnes), son of Palmer Andress/Andrus b. 1799 and Mary Jane Locey. Parents of Palmer Andress were William Andress and Lydia Palmer, probably born about 1770-75.

I don't know where William Andress and Lydia Palmer lived, but possibly Jefferson County, NY, or perhaps Prince Edward Co., Ontario, Canada. Palmer Andress and his brother Gordon Andress and sister Anna Andress settled in Northumberland Co., Ontario. There were also two other siblings of Palmer, Mary Andress and Sarah Andress.

This is NOT the William Andress of Leeds Co., Ontario.

Have you come across these folks?

Soundex for Andress?

I'm told that my gt.gt grandmother was an Andress. Also told it may have been spelt Andrus or some deriviative of Andrews.

One one document I see that Nancy M. Andress is listed as the wife and mother. In another census I see the surname Duress used, as if the census taker completely misheard the surname.

Have you seen the name Duress used much for Andress?

Nancy Minerva Andress

I have hit the "brick wall" and am appealing for help.

I have Nancy Minerva Andress b. abt 1855, married to Thomas Brown of Ireland, b. 1846 or 1849. They had issue: Cora in 1872, Clifford 1876? , and Susan 1879. They seemed to move between New York State and Scott township in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. The children all end up around Syracuse NY by 1900 though.

I am trying to find out who Nancy's parents were and if they were in the Delaware area of NY or if they were in Pennsylvania.
