I'm looking for any information on Lois Andrus (bd, dd, baptism, burial, parents!!!) who lived in Oxford Connecticut and married Zebulon Lines 25 January 1795. I have sketchy information on their children. I'm descended from their son, Sherman Lines. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Living on the west coast doesn't make east coast genealogy easy.
TracyL

First off, I don't speak Italian and I'm not sure how this ended up on an Italian site. But I research the Lutsey family and I came across this, so I wanted to share this in case you hadn't found it. It's the obituary for Huldah Burr Lutsey.

The Tribune – Clintonville, Wisconsin
October 12, 1888
Yesterday afternoon Huldah Burr Lutsey died at the family residence in the fourth ward, after an illness of but a few days’ duration, though her health has been far from robust for the past few years. Her fatal illness resulted from a complication of diseases, in which chronic asthma, catarrhal fever and pleursy were the more prominent. The lady was 65 years of age and came to this city in 1856, when hardly a dozen buildings marked its site. She was then a widow, her husband, a Mr. Andrews having died in the east, and for a time she taught a small school. In the autumn of that year she was married to Josiah Lutsey who survives her, aged and feeble. She was a woman of many excellent qualities and strong religious principles; long identified with the local Congregational denomination, and prominent in many good and charitable works in her more active years. In her death another of New London’s pioneers passes from the wilderness of earth’s hardships into the fair land of rest eternal. The funeral occurs at the Congregational church at 2 o’clock p.m. of Saturday. Rev. Wm. Blackwell, of Rhinelander, officiating.
Glad to meet you Mike, Timothy Howe of 1742 is my 4th great grandfather, and Timothy Howe 1765 is of course my 3rd. I do have the Four Brother's and also parts of the Howe Genealogies. I have not found anything on Titus Andrus, and I often wonder if maybe her father is Eber Andrus, and that is why the first son of Timothy 1765 inamed Eber Andrus Howe. I know nothing of Timothy of 1765, Wife's name I see it as Elcy Andross, but is that not a coincidence with Elizabeth Andrus, could be tho. I come on down through Titus 1793, to Edwin Ruthven, Clarence Arthur and my mother Dorothy Margaret Howe. Going the other Way I have the Howe line to Henry of 1492, England, but I always welcome new or more history or any corrections. I have both of the Timothy's Military records and also those of Titus, twin to Timothy, 1765. Am willing to share anything that I have.
I'm sorry that I haven't seen your message sooner. Timothy Howe is my 5th great grandfather. You will find information regarding both him and his wife in the book "The Four Howe Brothers In The American Revolution". Her son was very kind in his comments regarding his mother and how she saved his and his siblings life after the Battle of Wyoming.

Have you learned any information regarding her father Titus? I am currently working on this line. Timothy Howe is my SAR patriot and my daughter DAR patriot.

If you would like specific information, please don't hestitate to let me know.

I discovered tonight that our family owns two of the Bliss family Bibles. The first belonged to Aaron Bliss, son of Calvin Bliss and Lucy Colton, and his wife Lucina Augusta Rogers and notes their children and grandchildren. The second seems to have belonged to Catharine Andrus and her daughter, Kate Isador Brewer. Many Andrus and Brewer family members are listed. I would love to share this wonderful find. The family is from Stafford and East Windsor, CT and Monson and Longmeadow, MA.
There is a David Andrus of Granville, NY who married Mary L. Miller of Amsterdam, NY on 6/29/1865, in Amsterdam by Rev. Z. Phillips. Notice of the marriage was printed in the newspaper Canajoharie Radii. It also mentions that Mary Miller was the eldest daughter of Rev. W. A. Miller.

not a family member, just happen to have this notice on the same page as one of my family members and thought I would let the Andrus family know about it.

Re: Andrus farm, 1 mi. north of Poultney, VT 1894-1896

It looks as though you found the correct one on the 1880 census. Miraculously they spelled the name Andrus not Andrews. That Edwin is the son of Daniel and Harriet Watkins Andrus and the family had lived in North Poultney for many years. The following is from: “A History. Of The Town Of Poultney, Vermont, From Its Settlement To The Year 1875, With Family And Biographical Sketches And Incidents. Published By J. Joslin, B. Frisbie And F. Ruggles. Poultney: Journal Printing Office. 1875.[ Joseph Joslin, Barnes Frisbee and Frederick Ruggles]”
“Andrus, Daniel was a son of John Andrus. John Andrus was a half brother of Roswell Andrus. John never lived in Poultney. Daniel came here about 1815, and worked for John Broughton a year or more. Afterwards he worked for Daniel Mallary. He came to Poultney poor, but succeeded, by industry and close economy, to save a good property. He married Harriet Watkins, and had three children: Jane, Mary and Edwin D. Jane married William M. Bosworth, and after his decease, Rev. John Goadby, D. D., and resides in Poultney. Mary married J. Jay Joslin, and now resides in Denver, Colorado. Edwin D. has been twice married. [Page 194; Jane A. Adams married Edwin D. Andrus, and died July 27th, 1872.]
Daniel Andrus died November 14, 1863, in the 67th year of his age. Harriet, his wife, died February 23, 1874, aged 69 years.
Edwin D. now resides on the farm for many years owned and occupied by his father as his homestead, which is located about two miles north of Poultney village.”

I think I answered a query of yours some time ago, though it was not about Andrus, it was regarding Edward Broderick Dawson, born in Poultney.

Andrus farm, 1 mi. north of Poultney, VT 1894-1896

Does anyone know the name of the specific Andrus family that held title to the above mentioned farm before 1894?
The Vermont Record (Fair Haven) of Nov. 26, 1896 contains mention of my grandfather, James Dyer Dawson, and his purchase of the above farm, around 1894, and subsequent sale of same in 1896. I would like to look into the land records and need Mr. Andrus' first name.
The article reads as follows: "John (sic) Dyer Dawson, in his youth a resident of Castleton, who about two years ago bought the Andrus farm a mile north of Poultney, sold it last month with stock and and an immense quantity of every kind of produce raised etc. with a view of returning to South Africa where he had been for several years (a) successful operator in the celebrated gold field of Johanisburg (sic). Mr. Dawson's family will accompoany him to his distant field of enterprise." (Thanks to Joan Bixby, who transcribed this information onto the RootsWeb Vermont-L.)
J. Dyer was the son of George and Mary (Clark) Dawson of Castleton, VT, where they purchased a farm in 1883. Prior to that they moved around to different farms in different towns between Granville, NY and Castleton from at least 1860.
J. Dyer's wife was Katherine Broderick, daughter of Patrick and Margaret (Miden) Broderick, Hartford, Washington County, NY.
The 1880 Poultney census shows an Edwin Andrus, age. 41, born VT, and wife Grace 38, born NY. The 3 children were all born VT: Willie 15, Edwin 4, and Mary 1.

Has anyone come across a William Andrus b. Watertown probably between 1750 - 1770 who migrated to Dutchess County, NY (Hudson valley) by the late 1780s?

I'm still trying to find the parents of the William Andrus who married Lydia Palmer abt. 1790. Children of this pair were in Prince Edward County, Upper Canada by the time they were adults, probably around 1820. William was dead by about 1812, no place of death known.

Names common to this family are William, Henry, Mary, Elizabeth; the surname Gordon might also be part of William Andrus' ancestry because he named a son Gordon.

I also suspect that there may be a connection with Jonathan R. Andress in Switzerland Co., Indiana. It is believed that a Jeremiah Sheldon moved his family to Switzerland Co. from Dutchess Co, NY, and his daughter, Martha Sheldon married Jonathan R. Andress in 1820.

He is is NOT the William Andrus/Andress who migrated from Connecticut to Leeds/Grenville, Ontario, and was killed by a tree.

It's a pretty cold trail, and I've been looking for William's roots for some time. Any good leads will be appreciated!

Thanks, Wilma. It's been a long time, but we corresponded on these Andrus folks some years ago. Since then I have filled in many "blanks" in the tree. I do have the information you list, and in fact have some more specific dates on these folks. A cousin I've connected with in Castleton has an Andrus family bible containing many birth, marriage and death dates.

I also have come to believe that there was another child of William and Lydia: Elizabeth Andrus who married Jonathan Clark. Both were Friends, and the marriage is mentioned in Quaker records. She named a son William Andrus Clark, Jonathan and Elizabeth were neighbors of Palmer Andrus, and I suspect that Elizabeth is buried near Palmer - still working on solving that one!

I have been to the Andrus picnic twice, but unfortunately not the years you attended.

Lydia Palmer's ancestry is fairly well documented, but the hunt for the ancestors of William Andrus continues...

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and offer information, and best wishes to you.

Judy
hello patick
have you had any luck with your andrus line? my andrus line originates in the same genereal area as yours left off in ct. mine goes to john andrus b 1616 and srrived in farmngton ct ca 1640. i do not have any information outside of my direct line up to elisha andrus' children starting in 1775. i would like to fill that data in. if you have more information i might be able to link your line to mine somehow.
have you bought a copy of the interment certificate, and a copy of the death certificate. they are usually only a few dollars. last one i bought was for my grandfather. both cost me less than 20 for non certified copies. both have critical information that may quite possibly answer your primary question with this ebenezer. is he the one you are looking for? ther are spaces on both ususally for parents next of kin, birth date, death date, and on the interment certificate it will list the plot number. contact the historical socitey in wastertown, should be a quick google search, and they will be able to direct you to the appropriate person to get you those certs.

Ebenezer ANDRUS>Waterbury, New Haven, CT> d.1798

Hello,
Could anyone tell me about Ebenezer who died June 21, 1798 in Watertown? I found an unidentified descendant page on Familytree which says he is the son of John and Martha (Warner) ANDRUS b. 29 April, 1729. The mortality records of Watertown says he died at 81 years (b. abt 1716?). Is this the same person? Does anyone know who Ebenezer's wife and children might be?
Thanks for any information you might have.

Patrick
