My info came from De Spence Bently in September 1980. The data for the distaff side were obtained by Alfred Reinecke of New Orleans, through his own search of church records and from the Louisiana Historical Society. Such data were con-
siderably augmented by the memory of Yvonne Andry Bently. Mr Reinecke's wife was Mariette Sarrat. Her mother, Marie Andry, was the grandaughter of Michel Andry and Aim'ee Felicite Durel Andry.
My father was Ashton Louis Andry (1915-2001) I never knew my grand-parents since my Grandmother, Marie La Rose died when my Dad was 12 and my grandfather Jules Pierre Andry died when he was 16. I believe Jules Pierre was married to someone named Elanore, who gave birth to Marie Louise and Fernand. After she died, JP married Marie who gave birth to Ashton, Jules and Louis. They were sent to boarding school in St Charles, Louisiana.
My #5 greatgrandfather was Don Louis Antoine Andry. He was born in Lille France on 8 Nov 1727. He was commissioned as an engineer for the Louisiana colony by King Louis XV of France (date unknown).
In 1725 he married Marie Jeanne Lapierre in New Orleans. She was born in Detriot. In 1765 he was appointed to lead the first group of Acadians to their new homes in Attakapas ans Opelousas in Louisiana Territory. He was also a Lieutenant in the Infantry. When Spain acquired the territory, he was commissioned by the King of Spain as the engineer for their colony and from that commission he was given the honorary title "Don" and thereafter was known as Don Luis", a badge of honor and respect.
While on an exploratory mission for Spanish Governor Galvez, he was shipwrecked along the Texas coast, captured by Karankawa Indians together with his father (name unknown) and his son Manuel, tortured in their presence and was killed.
Manuel was born in New Orleans. He became a planter but the name of his plantation is unknown.During an insurrection by his slaves and others in the area, thet entered his bedroom at night and probed his bed with pitchforks until they were convinced he was dead, and then proceeded to murder his son Thomassin. However, Manuel customarily slept under an excess of blankets and thus escaped death. He was able to elude the slaves and make his way to New Orleans and warn the people there of the uprising.
Manuel was a Commandant of the militia in St John Parish during the Spanish regime and also served under Claiborne, who became the first Governor of Louisiana when it was admitted to the union in 1812.
