JA,

My great-grandfather is Nicola Angelo and on his WWI draft card it states his birthplace as "Naples, Chieti, Italy" which doesn't make much sense as Naples and Chieti are on opposite sides of the peninsula. But as any lead is worth checking out, maybe I can learn more about Angelos from Chieti.

I know Nicola was born 1889 and emigrated 1895, although I can't find any record of his parents emigrating with him. His father was Carmine Angelo who I do not know much about. That is unfortunately all I know about my Angelos prior to arriving in the United States, and I haven't found anything about a name change from Angelisto.

One other thing I know that my Angelos are of the genetic haplogroup I1, which is not very common in Italy and originates from Scandinavia, just in case anyone knows of any Norman or Gothic ancestry of the Angelos. (It's been suggested to me that the name Angelo could come from Anglia in Denmark, the home of the Angles.)

Thanks!

My great-grandfather was Nicholas Angelo and he lived in Pittsburgh most of his life. He was from Naples, and his father's name is Carmine. He changed his name to Harry Miller and has children Vincent, James, Nicholas, and Margaret by wife Jennie Labarbera. I don't know if he had any siblings, but if any of this looks familiar, let me know.

Would the Campos name be connected to the DelCampo..I think that's the spelling...I've seen that in with some of my other lines, but have no further info on the name..how or if it's more than a collateral line, etc..ie: the Pittser name. I am trying to tie into my maternal "unknowns" in my Pittser/Cornell(Cornwell) lines..there's a lot of name changing in most of my lines, too...spelling, taking wives names, for whatever reason.
H5 mtdna - Lucinda Angelo-b:1857/McLean,IL ?

This is a far-fetched attempt to fill in the blanks of my maternal ancestry...My results from the mtDNA tests, show a link to some Slovenian ancestry, KS, ca1920..a common ancestoral line. Slovenia is at the NE border of Italy. Some refugees did and do immigrate due to ethnic persecutions. I was doing some random searching and found a reference to Lucinda Angelo, b:1857 in McLean, IL. I don't know if Angelo was her maiden name or married name.
According to the results for the line, where her name's listed, her mtdna results are an exact to mine and I'd like to see if there's a common denominator in our trees that might help me (and someone else, maybe?) find out who the "Unknown" women in my tree are. I have a Daniel/David Corn/w/ell b:Clermont,OH 1847, who married 2 unknown women born in Arkansas, probably late 1860's. lst wife, died in TX..according to an 1880 Census for McDonald Co.,MO, where he'd left his 3 dtrs to "go back to Texas"...One of these girls was my G-grandmtr and I'd love to find more abt her parents. Her G-ftr was George Corn/w/ell who was married at that time, to a Mrs Helen Marie Sartwell-Evans, who died in 1882, leaving a housefull of kids to be scattered among relatives, I suppose. Some of the descendants think the "Unknown" women may have been from a Lovell family, in NW Arkansas. As I mentioned, I don't know if the Angelo name was from a marraige or a maiden name. I was born in IL, abt 50 miles east of St. Louis and figure my dad knew someone there...he and his dad worked in the Oilfields, he was working for Midwest Drilling, OK City, OK at the time, mid 1940's. If this goes with anybody else's mysteries, please let me know and maybe we can find some answers?
A note is that some of the near matches for the mtdna results point to a Fogel/Fogle..Vogel/ar name, also. I wasn't familiar with these surnames, but they are Slovenian..Mediteranian, etc..I see a Miller name tied to the Angelo name and I have a lot of ancestors who had experience in the shipping industries, transferring these trades to intercoastal pursuits, in the early 1800's etc.
Thanks.
SAMcClellan
PO Bx 585
Arlington,OR
97812-0585
or..
artogo4u@yahoo.com

I'm looking for any information on my great-grandfather's family. His name was Nicola Angelo and he was born in southern Italy, possibly near either Naples or Chieti around 1890. His family immigrated to Allegheny County Pennsylvania when he was young. He usually went by Nicholas, and by the time he was married he had changed his name to Harry Miller. His wife's name was Jennie, and his children were Vincent, James, Margaret, and Nicholas. He had three brothers, Lawrence, Tony, and Thomas. His parents went by Jean and Mary. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Frank "Mockingbird" Angelo/ Rosa Whipp

Well hello cousins!!! I too am one of Frank and Sarah's greats. I am descended from Rosa Whipp Angelo and Henry Hamilton Hunter.

FYI When Oliver Perry Angelo passed away in 1853 CA (wonder if he was digging for gold??) - Hannah Davis remarried to John Whipp and settled in the D.C. area. So John Whipp was Frank's stepfather. He must have liked him as he made Whipp his daughter's middle name!

I have a set of books I bought from my local library.

The title of the set is "Children & Youth in America". The years discussed in these volumes
are 1866-1932.

ANYWAY...there is a chapter that discusses "An Unfair Trial" "Angelo v. The People, 96 ILL. 209"

"Mr. Justice Walker delivered the opinion of the Court:"

"At the August term, 1878, of the Morgan circut court, the grand jury presented an indictment
against John Angelo, then about seventy-eight years of age, and his son, for the murder of
Isaac Hammill."

If anyone is interested in this line, I would be happy to transcribe the information from the book for you.

This is not an advertisement. :-) I am just stuck on my own research right now, and I thought
if I could do something productive for someone else...

Well, just let me know if you want the rest of the info.

Kathy katanderson25@hotmail.com

I've just discovered that after a 1949 fire in Chester Co., PA, that at lease one of the fires survivors did indeed change their last name to 'Angelo'. The aparently resided in Norristown, Montgomery Co., PA until their deaths a few years ago.

If this is actually the same fire please let me know.

Thanks,

Jack Lauman
Birch Bay, WA
