I am an avid amateur genealogist and a direct descendant of Peter Angle. I have posted much of the Peter Angle descendancy on Ancestry.com. My father, Max Angle met Eula Fergussen Angle and received some copies of her book. This book is mostly a vast descendancy chart of Peter and Elizabeth Jane Miller Angle. I have found several errors in it, but overall is a nice reference book.
What I would like to know is this: Where did the tradition start that the birthplace of Peter Angle was Germany and that HE immigrated? We have documents that place him in the German Battalion of the Revol. War. This battalion (really a regiment of 8 battalions) consisted of troops from PA and MD. Peter enlisted in August of 1776 at age 22, in response to Gen. Washington's desire to have American Patriot Germans counter the Hessians and persuade them to crossover. The German Battalion saw action in Trenton and crossed the Delaware with Washington that Christmas Eve. See the website:
www.germanregiment.org.
My point is: Peter was considered an American. He was 22 when he joined up. This regiment was made up mainly of the Pennsylvania "Dutch" from Lancaster County, PA and Frederick County, MD.
HAS ANYONE SEARCHED PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH RECORDS PRIOR TO 1776 FOR ANGLE AND MILLER FAMILIES? IF NOT, WHY???
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
