They originally came from Va.were married in Buckingham Co., VA. He supposedly was born in N.C. Any help you can give me on this family would be greatly appreciated.
You are correct about the lineage to Congregation Beth AHabah in Richmond, VA. Myer Angle was the first president of the Jewish congregation. The Beth Ahabah Museum and Archives is the museum affiliated with the Congregation which still exists, so it's a Temple and Museum.

I apologize, I was cleaning up my email and found a notice from Ancestry. (I'm not someone who cleans up my email often!)

The Jewish link is not really a surprise, although I had not been able to figure out who the ancestor was. This info really helps me a lot and will answer that question for my cousins as well.

My Grandfather, James B. Angle (I'm going to call him the second) told us that when he was young and away at school, he joined a group called the "KKK". When he told his father, (Dr. James B. Angle married to Eliza) his father informed him that it was not a wise decision, as he was
part Jewish.

That was apparently all that he was actually told though, as he was not clear on the line. As it's recognized through the mother, I guess technically he wasn't considered Jewish. (Probably not something the KKK would
like though. LOL!)

I'm Marian Kay Angle-Elliott. Daughter of James B. and Marian L. Angle. (That would be James B the third actually, although here in WY James B the second was always James B. Sr. and my dad was James B. Jr. while my brother was James B. the third and his son is James B. the fourth. I guess with those that knew Dr. James B. I should bump them all to the next number? LOL!

Angle family - Missouri from ?

I have a Francis Angle b abt 1790 from Louisana, MO and perhaps his father John W. Angle, who died in St. Louis Mo, in 1818. Kincade, Adams, Eaton, and Weathers are some (but not all) family names associated with this family. I've seen evidence of Jacob and perhaps Janus.

I'm not sure where this family is from and am looking for links. Would be interested to see if we have any matches.

My ggrandfather changed our Angle family name to Angel. He and much of his family moved from Missouri to California around 1900. My grandfather Angel was a Commander in the Navy; served during WWII - Pacific Theater.

Speaking of matches, I have an Angel / Angle / Engle, et. al. DNA project and am looking for Angle (et. al.) males to test YDNA - looking for family matches, if the research doesn't get us there. The paper trail is a pretty slow and timeconsumming slow process. I'm not to web saavy so it's slow to go, but my father was the first to participate before he passed July 2008.

https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=Q62881&...

Laurie C.
Since all my data on George B. Angle and Mary is from census data, there is a chance it may not all be correct. I need better documentation. Do you have any?

I was responding to a post by Jo who is definitely related to a George B. Angle and Mary Johnson through their son Johnson B. Angle. Per census data George was born abt 1854 per headstone, but May 1855 per census, and Mary 1867 per headstone and Feb 1869 per census, so there is uncertainty as to whether my George B. and Mary Angle are the same as hers.

This family appears to be the same as mine, but I am missing definitive documentation so I am not 100% sure. My George B. Angle is son of Moses Kelly Angle and Sarah W. Adams. I have confirmed that Moses Kelly Angle and Sarah, are buried together at Riverview Cemetary in Louisiana, MO.

In the History of Northeast Missouri they are mentioned as "Moses Angle, a German, and Sarah (Adams) Angel" as their daughter, Melissa (Malissa), married J.E. Davies. The Davies' daughter Lena, married Levi Benning whose son,Olaus P. Benning, became mayor pro tem of Louisana, MO. Long story, but it is in this written history and correlates to some of the documents and cemetary information I have.

There was also a post here in 2000 by a Benning who mentioned her husband's grandmother was Sarah Weather Adams, but she never responded to my post. So I am fairly confident that Moses Kelly Angle was married to Sarah Weathers Adams and that they had 6 children, one of which is my ancestor, John Moses Angle, and George B. Angle among others.

I am not aware of any Catherine's or Squire Angles in my line, Mary Story nor Shadrack Garrett (yet). However, I do know of a Squire Angle that I believe is from a well documented line. Mine is only so well documented and I am missing pertinent data on Moses and Sarah Angle. Moses' father appears to be Francis (Frank) Angle, still to be proved and I don't know where Francis is from. Prior to Moses there is a lot of uncertainty. Any documentation will be helpful.

I have a poor copy of the burial information on Mrs. Sarah W. Angle from the Sterne Furneral Home in Louisiana, Mo. dying at age 73 years and 1 month. I do not know who Sarah's parents are. I do not know if Sarah Ann Weathers is the same as my Sarah Weathers Adams. I had received some information that I had not confirmed on Sarah Adams parents, but my PC crashed a while back and I lost the information.

It would be intriguing if Sarah Ann Weathers was the same as my Sarah, because she began having children with Moses Kelly Angle when she was about age 18 to age 28. Moses seemed to die fairly young leaving Sarah a widow living with her family for decades, per census data and on her own in 1900 at age 67. I'm not sure when she could have married anyone else, other than before the age of 18. It's possible. Do you have any dates?

This looks like a connection to me. To be sure, we need to share some dates, and places. As you know, if you've seen my tree I have George B. Angle married to Mary E. Johnson with children Ruth E. and Johnson B. Angle. This is mostly from census data. (1860 to 1910)

I show my George B.s father to be Moses Kelly Angle, father to my John Moses Angle. John married Mariah Boone Kincade. Kincade decesnds from Edward Boone, brother to Daniel, on the maternal side of the family from his daughter Charity. There may be other Boone connections, with your family though. This one is a little removed from George B. It would not be a blood relative. Lots of Boones live on the other side of the Mississippi River from Pike County, MO. My John married Mariah in adjacent Pike County, Ill.

Would love to share notes.

Laurie C. Angel
My great grandfather, Carson Angle, changed the name to Angel around 1900.
November 22, 1929 to July 18, 2008

Craig Howard Angel was a formidable presence – tall, athletic, commanding and perceptive. As a member of the U.S. Marine Corps for 14 years, he served with merit in the Korean War, was an Expert Marksmen and Drill Instructor. “Gunny Angel” was comfortable taking charge and giving orders throughout his military and civilian careers. He was extraordinarily intelligent, fun loving, analytical, kind, caring and generous, in spite of the tough exterior and frugal lifestyle he embraced.

The son of Navy Commander, Craig Carson Angel of Oakland, and Helen Belcher of, Tiburon, he was educated in public, private and military schools, including Jesuit seminaries, all over the country as the family moved from one coast to the other, including Long Beach. One of those military assignments included Pearl City, Hawaii in 1941, at the time Pearl Harbor was attacked. Being from a military family since at least the revolutionary war, Craig was an avid student of American military history and strategy.

During his 30 year civilian career as an Electrical Engineer Craig quickly excelled through the ranks, eventually overseeing teams of scientists as Director of Programs to develop advanced electronic media for the government and private industry. Notable assignments early in his career included electronics installations on Air Force One and Hugh Hefner’s ‘Bunny’ Plane.

A competitive man of many talents and a broad range of interests, Craig’s true passion was found in promoting, organizing, and participating in grassroots automobile racing for over four decades. Notable events include the Braille Rallye in Los Angeles, the Lone Pine Time Trials, and numerous other racing events throughout the year. Always the consummate competitor, Craig would win nearly every competition he entered, be it physical or mental by nature. His passion for motorsports continued through the decades serving in numerous administrative positions, as well as competing with the younger generations. At the time of his passing, Craig was the Treasurer of the CSCC Solo 2 organization and most recently was awarded his 25-year membership in Sports Car Club of America.

Craig is survived by his wife, Renee Brandigon Angel of Ontario, his sister, Laurie A. McGuinness, of Novato, daughters: Laurie C. Angel (Charles W. Fowler) of Long Beach, Virginia A. Angel (Paul Foley) of Manhattan Beach, and sons: Peter H. Angel (Miriam Xavier) of Colorado Springs, Edward C. Angel of San Bernardino, and Craig C. Angel of Los Angeles; grandchildren: Jason Angel, Jacqueline Angel, Michelle Angel, Christopher Angel, Alexandra Angel, Connor Foley, and Kevin Angel; 9 great grandchildren, step children, and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Braille Institute Youth Center of Los Angeles. Military honors will be conducted at Riverside National Cemetery in California August 15 at 9:45 a.m. and a memorial will be held in his honor August 23 at 11:00 am at 1601 E. Orangewood in Anaheim CA. The family wishes to express our appreciation to our racing family.

Hi Bev,

I was responding to you and your MO/KY/VA string. Appreciate the informative response. I could be wrong, but I believe my Moses Kelly Angle is named after a Moses Kelly that lived in Pike Co, MO around the same time as my Francis Angle early 1800's - the name appears on plat maps and in the county histories. I like to consider there was a tight bond or friendship between my Francis Angle and Moses Kelly. Time may tell.

I've been in touch with many Angles from Pennsylvania. In fact many of you may have been in touch with Earl Taylor looking for his Nancy Angle from Welsh Run, Franklin Co, Penn. Turns out Earl's wife and I are distantly related through Daniel Boone. My John Moses Angle (Moses Kelly Angle's son) married Mariah Boone Kincaide (she from Pike Co. Ill). Maternal links from Edward Boone's daughter Chastity, (Ed is Daniel's brother).

I have absolutely no idea where in Kentucky Margaret Eaton is from, if indeed she is from Kentucy. I have a similar issue with Moses Kelly's Wife Sarah Weathers Adams from Kentucky - maybe. I did see a post years ago from another Angle years ago that was related to me through Sarah Weathers Adams, but they never responded.

BTW - my ggrandfather Carson, John Moses Angle's son, changed the family name from Angle to Angel. He's the only one in the family that did this - don't know why.

Laurie C. Angel

This is precisely on my radar - the name variations, the locations and the the time frame.

I've posted several times before. I have found numerous cousins, some from generations back, which is very exciting, but no one has been able to get me to to ancestors prior to my Francis (Frank) Angle b abt 1790 - not sure where. He was in the Illinois / Missouri regiment in the War of 1812 and he was definitely in Pike Co. Mo in 1821. I've surmised he is from Pennsylvania or Kentucky, but I could be wrong. His wife is Margaret Eaton (Sally) b abt 1800 in Kentucky.

He had several children. I believe my ancestor, Moses Kelly Angle was the oldest b abt 1821 in Missouri, as all of his children were:
Lewis b abt 1825,
Andrew b 1825,
Mary A. b abt 1828, d 1882 Pike Co. MO
John Robert b 14 Feb 1830 d 18 Nov 1914 Henry Co, MO and
George K. b 31 Jan 1835 d 24 May 1910 Ashburn, MO

I have a book from NE Missouri from 1916 that refers to Moses as Moses the German. His daughter or descendents married a man of some local prominence.

I have just not been able to find many records. I have been to Salt Lake City - gone through all the Angle/Angel/Angell, etc books I could find and every microfilm record I could think of, but haven't found anything yet.

The one definitive way to do this is via YDNA. I've had a very slow start and no real time to do it, but I started an Angle/Angel/Angell DNA surname project and I would love someone to work on this with me - to get it set up and running. We only have results for two participants and I have not yet figured out how to post the results nor the the Family trees. I'm working lots of hours 6 to 7 days a week so I'm not making much progress. This is a very powerful tool and can definitely aid in research.

Any help / participation would be greatly appreciated.

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Angle/

My Angles lived in Pike County, Missouri from at least 1821 (maybe even 1812) into the 1900's. I do not know where they came from. Virginia is a likely possibility, as is Pennsylvania. Do you have any family names or information from the late 1700's or early 1800's?

I'm looking for the birthplace of my Francis (Frank) Angle, probably born abt 1790, but I do not know where. His wife Margaret (Sally) Eaton may be from Kentucky.

Laurie Angel (my ggrandfather Carson Angel changed the name from Angle)

I have recently been looking for information on my dad's side of the family (Groves). Not having a lot of luck so decided to try to find out more about grandpa and grandma Angle. I am your oldest cousin, Glady's daughter. I know who all my aunts and uncles are because I sort of grew up with them, am just 2 years younger than June and Joan.

I know I have met you but it was years ago. Most of you cousins are so much younger than Jess and I that we didn't get to spend time with you.

I don't have birth dates, etc on aunts and uncles any more. I remember the months of uncle jr., aunt darlene and arlene and june and joan birthdays. I have grandpa and grandmas birthdays and death but not marriage, just know they were married when grandma was 13 or 15? I have a picture of her and her parents right before she got married.

Would love to hear from you.
I think we have talked before, i am also his granddaughter, my father is Ernest Angle Jr. I did find the information back to Peter Angle, i do have a question, are they from Germany? i thought, or have at least been told, that it was Dutch. So i guess we are cousins. I don't know if you know or not, but u have a very large family in missouri. I am in oklahoma but that is because my parents are divoraced and i ended up here and never moved back. I have 3 brothers and two sisters, all have children except for me and one sister. Jeanette, grandpa's daughter, had several children as well, unfortunately i am not well acquainted with most of them. So are u in California? How many cousins do i have on Raymond's side? if you are interested i have several pictures of Grandpa from when he was a baby, if u would like i would gladly share them with you. I am so happy to finally get in contact with more of my family, my father does not get along with everyone so it has been difficult for me to talk to everyone.

Hi - I happen to be thumbing thru the posts and see that you mentioned Claude. My father, Clarence Eugene Angle (born in 1951) is the grandson of Clarence Claude (i'm pretty sure I'm remembering that right). My grandfather was in the Navy and died before I was born in 1976 and is buried in Memphis. My dad was born in Key West, FL and then lived most of his life in Meridian, MS. He actually put together a cool-sounding family history "binder" and his reasearch got him as far back as the 1800's. Apparently one of our ancestors was in the Oklahoma Land Rush. The last thing he could find was a mention of a ancestor being "from Kentucky way". If any of this sounds familiar please let me know, I'd love to hear! email: cangle1@yahoo.com

Laurie and others, regarding name spelling changes of Angle/Angel/Angell, my family's spelling went from Angel with one el to Angell with two with my gggrandfather Jesse Elitha Angel's sons (about 1858).

I don't know the reason, but I do know that in another (unrelated) case that I researched some years ago, a friend whose surname was MacDonald (and who was orphaned with many siblings at an early age) was assigned the McDonald (no "a") when he and SOME of the siblings arrived at the orphanage just after 1900. He was very insistent that he was a Scottish MAC Donald (which was, in fact, the case), while many older siblings felt that they were better served by their McDonald moniker with which they had become accustomed. Some generations hence, this spelling change may give rise to some confusion.

However, the really interesting naming story for me came when I could not find either McDonalds nor MacDonalds in the area of the country where I was sure they lived during the laater 1700s. After much searching, I found they were living with one MacDonald male's full brother who owned the farm land and whose surname was SMITH...given to an ancestor one hundred year's previous by Bonnie Prince Charlie in Scotland. The Prince was running for his life when his horse lost a shoe, and a loyal MacDonald did the necessary blackSMITHing job for the Prince who then renamed the family. Thereafter, some members of the family cherished the Prince's name gift while others did not.

Names are sometimes curious conundrums. But we must remember not to get to attached to one particular spelling...or we are in danger of losing the stories which we treasure most.

Bev Angel/Angle/Angell ETC!
Laurie,

I'm unsure to whom you are responding. If it is to my recent post, I will go one step further and say that my dad said that we were of Enligh/Irish/Scottish and Pennsylvania Dutch descendency. I recall that someone (Tnoi? Jim?) recently said that s/he had heard that their family was "Dutch." Pennsylvania Dutch generally referred to German immigrants who (eventually) settled in Pennsylvania.

A now-deceased Angel/l researcher from Florida who had spent many decades actively researching Angel/l/Angles once told me that most of those families (if not descendents of the famous MS/RI Thomas Angell) entered the US in NY and many then migrated to PA...then south (and eventually west) from there.

Many of us seem to lose our ancestors about 1780-1790. Perhaps a migration trail study from NY>PA =/<1790 might reveal a trend that could assist us in our studies. Can anyone online suggest a diligently researched and respected book on such?

Thank you for listing children's names. Though I see frequently repetitive matching names in my ancestry with the last three children, I do not see reference in my family to a Lewis or an Andrew, nor do I have any other reference to a Moses. [And, Kelly? Perhaps there is some Irish family in your background, too?] (And, Mary, John and George were such common given names at that time as to make any relationship guesses based upon that alone would be completely unreliable.)

My Jesse Elitha's (b 1785 KY) children were Nancy (b KY <1827), Eligha (TN ~1827), Henry B. (IL 1835), Lawrence Washington (AR 1836), Charles R. (MO 1841), Judah Ann (MO 1844), James Edward (MO 1850).

You say that your Frank Angle's wife, Margaret Sally Eaton was b KY ~1800. Have you been able to get more specific with county of birth for her? Also, have you accessed the US gov't military files on Frank; they generally give the date and place of induction and may also give the name of the wife or widow if any claims were filed.

Bev Angell Oliver
bevoliver@rocketmail.com

Angel/Angel/Angells from MO/VA/KY ca 1790

It sounds as if Kim and Toni have a good deal of information about the Angel/Angles. My gggrandfather Jesse Elitha Angel/Angell settled in St. Louis Co., MO about 1850. He had been born in KY about 1785 and had moved west with his wife Sarah BURTON, having children in TN, AR, IL and MO. After Jesse's death in about 1858, his property was split amongst his children and they and their mom moved to Gasconade Co. (and later some to Franklin Co.) MO.

I have long felt from emotional statements made by my father regarding "brothers fighting brothers in the War Between the States" that such had occurred in the Angel/Angle/Angell line. I have observed that many of the Angels (and alternative spellings) ended in Pike Co. and Boone Co., MO. I am wondering if any of those folks are related to my folks...specifically whether my Jesse Elitha Angel/l might be a brother/cousin/nephew of some of the folks who settled further west in MO in the 1820-1850 time period.

What information might you have regarding the political persuasions (North versus South) of your ancestors and/or whether they were slave owners? Too, can you share with me Peter Angle's descendency chart so that I can check for first names of children and surnames of spouses in an attempt to find some thread of relationship, if any?

Thanks for sharing!

Bev Angell Oliver
bevoliver@rocketmail.com

Robert,

I have read your post regarding Squire Angle and wish to ask if you would be willing to share children's names and siblings of the Squire, if you know them?

My earliest documented ancestor is Jesse (aka Elitha) Angel/Angell. (Not name spelling difference which was common in those days.) He was supposedly born ~1785 in KY (according to an 1850 MO census). His wife Sarah BURTON (b 1808 White Co, TN just a few miles southwest from your Angels) was the daughter of a Baptist minister from NC. I am now working on a supposition that Elitha's parents may have come from NC as well.

Pre-1800 is early enough in our nation's history that it is certainly a possibility that your Angel and my Angel were related...cousins, brothers, etc. Since I'm stuck with my Elitha's parentage and you're stuck with your Squire Angel's parentage, and since they lived just across the state line from one another, I propose that we trade info in hopes of finding a linked ancestor who will answer questions for both of us.

Do you have family info on Mary Story? Perhaps this will give us more leads.

Bev Angell Oliver
