Hi

I have been reading your posts about the Aungles and was wondering if you have any information about Aungle family as well? My great grandmother was an Aungle (Gertrude) from Seaham- I have traced her family back to Henry Aungle (b 1791) but there I get stuck- no record of Henry's birth and who hhis mother/father were. Interesting that the name Angles/ Aungles was interchangeable - is Aungle (no S) a variation too?

Many thanks

Madeleine

Mrs. George Angles burial at Arvonia Cemetery

I am searching for descendants of Mrs. George Angles (d. 2-9-1884, bd. 2-11-1884 Arvonia Cemetery, Osage Co., KS.

I am working on a book for the Osage Co., KS Historical Society that will cover the people who are buried at the Arvonia Cemetery, located near Arvonia, KS. I would like to include birth-death-burial dates, parents & siblings, cause of death and any interesting family information; such as where they came from, military history, family lore, occupations, etc. I will NOT be listing any birth dates of living individuals and any information used will be the type that is easily accessible by anyone.

I have a list of burials that is a compiled list from two different sources but it only covers up through the early 1990’s. I hope to complete this list to include all burials up until now.

If you would like to add any information to your ancestor/family member’s listing, please contact me directly at newtonmac@msn.com . Please type “Arvonia Cemetery” in the subject line so I don’t miss your email. With 800+ burials, I cannot list all the names here so I’m listing the surnames. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to help. Keep in mind that most of the ladies are buried under their married names. If you’re not sure if your family member is buried in Arvonia, contact me and I’ll check for you.

Albert, Angles, Antrim, Atchison, Austin, Hart, Bailey, Barnett, Barr, Bebb, Behrendt, Benson, Blake, Bontz, Booth, Boring, Bosley, Botkin, Boyce, Briggs, Brower, Bugg, Campbell, Chambers, Clark, Clotfelter, Cosley, Cottrell, Cowden, Crabtree, Crippen, Davies, Davis, Decker, Dobson, Edison, Edwards, Elishan, Ellis, Evans, Felton, Ferguson, Frye, Funston, Gavin, Goodwin, Graham, Gray, Griffith, Griffiths, Hamman, Harris, Harvey, Hebbe, Henry, Herr/Haerr, Hilding, Hillis, Holmquist, Hooper, Hotchkiss, Hughes, Humphreys, Jenkins, Jennings, Jensen, Jeremy, Jernigan, Jessee, Jones, Kesler, King, Kirk, Knight, Larson, Leach, Lewis, Lloyd, Lowman, Maloney, Marker, Mays, Metzger, Miller, Mochamer, Monfort, Moore, Morgan, Morris, Moses, Near, Nesbitt, Newlee, Newman, Newton, Ormsby, Owens, Padgett, Parker, Parrey, Parry, Peterson, Pettay, Phillips, Pickens, Powell, Prentice, Price, Protheroe, Rees, Reynolds, Rich, Richards, Roberts, Robinson, Rouland, Rumph, Samuel, Sanderson, Schedel, Shepard, Shirley, Sloan, Small, Smith, Southworth, Spillman, Standiferd, Stephens, Sterrett, Still, Tankersley, Terril, Terrion, Thomas, Thompson, Trueblood, Umdenstock, Walker, Wallace, Ward, Watkins, Whaner, Whildin, White, Williams, Williamson, Wilson, Witherspoon, Woodin

Anita (Newton) McKinney
Colorado Springs, CO
Hi Foster..thanks again for your photo`s and Emails..did you know (Plina) Pheobi and son Trevor Glendenning from Warden Law (also had a daughter Caroline and a daughter in Australia) or the Glendennings from Hetton le Hole..Fond memories of all at Warden Law and faint memories of the Glendennings from Hetton le Hole (Dads cousins I think)...I went to school at Hetton Lyons. For your records my dad Leslie died in 1971 and mother Lily died in 1998. I have a sister Mary still living in Durham and her married name is Martin, they have two daughters Sharon and Amanda who are both married and have children but we have lost touch mainly because of how they treated mam and dad....Hope to hear from you soon and if you are ever in the Westcountry let me know...William

Hi William
My family consists of a son Glenn and a Daughter Kim .Glenn lives in Nottingham with his family : three sons ,Harvey ,Aidan and Luke ( aged 7.5 and 3) . Kim lives in East Grinstead , West Sussex . Kim has two children : Madeline and Max ( 4 and 2 ) .
I'm the only surviving member of my family of three brothers : Robert , Melvin and myself . As you see I live at Houghton-Le-Spring the area from which your grandfather and Father came. I was born 2/3/40 .
I have spend quite some time in Durham county records office over the years trying to trace the family name . Have the family tree back to 1560 .
The spelling of Aungles was reintroduced by my grandad Robert born 1873 ; it had been Angles for two generations before that . The "U " was put back into the name to stop it sounding too germanic at war time .
Houghton parish records show that your grandad was Joseph Augles at birth and lived at Copthill . So you can see the spelling change again .

Have a good Christmas from myself and my wife Joan .

Cheers from Foster
Thanks for responding. I emailed you my address. If you don't get my email respond thru this site and let me know and I will use this site to give you my home mailing address. It has always been my wish to someday meet my uncles/aunts/cousins. I grew up in Orlando and although I was born in Ohio, have only been there once to visit when I was very young.

hello george, I think you must be related to Stan my husband as he is from Jarrow and his mother Jenny came from houghton le spring. Stan's cousin is Foster Aungles and he has helped us get in touch with his, Stan's, brother and sister. foster is a very keen geneologist especially tracing the aungles family. I bet he has you on his family tree, His email address is foster@g0abf.freeserve.co.uk. He will be able to give you a lot of information and would also be very pleased to hear from you. I would like to keep in touch too I could send you a photo of stan next time I write too see if you can recognise any family resemblance. stan was born in 1929, went to work in the shipyards in 1943 and joined the army in 1927. Hope to hear from you again , ann anungles

Hello George, I think you are probably related to Stan , my husband whose mother came from Houghton Le Spring. Her name was Jenny Aungles and her nephew Foster Aungles still lives in that village/town. In fact we visited Foster there in 2001. His email address is foster@g0abf.freeserve.co.uk . He is very keen on genealogy especially of the Aungles family and has a very detailed 'family tree' . He'd be able to tell you a lot about the family. Moreover, I bet he actually has your name on his tree, and I know he'd like you to contact him. Stan was born in 1929 and Jenny Aungles, his mother, was born sometime in the early 1900s. Stan went to school in Jarrow until 1943 when he went into the shipyards He then joined the army in 1947. He never knew Jenny who 'gave' him to his father as soon as he was born but because Aungles is such an uncommon name we were lucky enough to meet up with Foster about ten years ago. We knew they were part of the same Aungles family as Jenny had give Stan the middle name of Bage which was Foster's (and unbeknownst to us then) Stan's grandmother's name. Foster told him of, and put him in touch with, his (Stan's)brother and sister. That was quite a family get together. It was extraordinary to see these 60'ish people who had never seen each other before but who all looked strikingly alike. I'd like to have a go at using the scanner to send you a photo of Stan to see whether you can identify any family resemblance. I'm off shortly to six months work in Beijing but it would be good to keep in touch. My email address is aaungles@hotmail.com.au. Hope to hear from you again, Ann Aungles

Australian Aungles

Hello George, I'm pretty sure you are related to Stan, my husband, as Foster Aungles, the man I told your son about, still lives at Houghton Le Spring and he was Stan's cousin. I must dig up his email and his postal address to send you as he would be very interested to know that there is a Plymouth branch of the family. ... ... I'm not sure how old you are George nor which generation you belong to, but Stan was born in Jarrow in 1929 and went to school in Jarrow until he left to go into the shipyards in 1943, then into the army in 1947. Stan was the son of Jenny Aungles who was born in the early 1900s and died in the 1950s Jenny and the rest of her brothers and sisters and their families came from round about Houghton Le Spring. In fact we visited England in 2001, and just before Stan died from a stroke, we went to Houghton Le Spring and visited Foster and his family. ... ... I think you might be the son of one of Jenny's brothers, or maybe a grandson. ... ... It would be good to keep in touch. I would also like to get my friend to help me use a scanner to send you a photo of Stan just to see if there is a family resemblance. I am off to work in Beijing for six months but it shouldn't be any problem corresponding by email. My email address is aaungles@hotmail.com. ..... ..... By the way there are 12 other Aungles at least over here in Australia. Three are our children, Phil, Alison and Alan, and nine our grandchildren - five boys and four girls. Hope to hear from you some time again. Ann

Foster and his family still live in the North of England I'm sure he'd be very pleased to hear from you. I dont have his email address bt I believe he'd be easy to find if you enter his name on a search engine. My father was called Leslie and he had one brother called Joe, my grandfather worked and lived at Warden Law, Houghton le Spring. He worked on the railways but died before I was born. The name Jenny seems to ring a bell, I am not sure but I think she was my fathers Aunt. I will go up the loft to see what info we brought back when my mum died.
I can also remember going to see relatives from dads side when I was small but the families must have drifted apart.
