Buenaventura Angulo

My grandfather, Buenaventura Angulo, was born approximately 1902 in Venezuela. His family was very rich and Catholic. He was converted to protestantism and was disinherited from his family. I believe he never talked to any of them again, but I am not sure. He became a missionary. He married Felicidad Vasquez from Puerto Rico. They lived in Venezuela, Colombia, and Puerto Rico. Son Edilberto David (my father) was born in Venezuela in 1927. Son William was born in Colombia about 1928. The rest of the children were born in Puerto Rico: Elia (f), Nelly (f), Sigfredo (m), Nancy (f). They moved to New York about 1947, and later California where they lived until the Buenaventura and Felicidad died. They lived in Montebello and then Hacienda Heights. He died about 1982 and she died about 1996. Edilberto died in Schererville, In. in 1996. William lives in Chandler, AZ. Elia (Sifuentes) and Nelly live in Vista, CA. Sigfredo was killed in the Air Force when his plane was shot down over China in about 1953 - just after the Korean war ended. Nancy (Swanson) lives in the Seattle area.

I have not really done any genealogical research, so this is probably a really novice question, but how do you find things like that in census records? How do you even get to the census records?

I grew up in Reseda, across the street (Vanalden) from a house occupied by "the Angulos". I was rather young and didn't know much about them. The man seemed elderly to me and would often drive a tractor through the field behind the house. I don't recall anything ever being planted there though. This was the southern portion of a tract currently occupied by the West Valley LAPD station. The field was bordered by Kittridge street on the south. Across Kittridge was part of the tile factory and along the eastern border was another part of the tile factory that fronted along Wilbur Ave.

I've long been curious as to who the Angulos were and what eventually happened to the factory business. The house can be described as an hacienda with painted inlaid tile work. It included covered patios and walkways. The roof was of the same tiles manufactured at the plant. The house remained all through the 60's and I think into the 70's. I recall the developers had a tough time tearing it down to build the townhouses that currently occupy this land.

The pits where the adobe was mined remained for quite some time after the plant shut down and was a very popular spot for dirt bike riders, much to the annoyance of the neighbors.

I'm not related at all but I am curious. I have an old photograph of myself on a small bicycle wearing a cowboy outfit with a toy pistol and holster. I was told the Angulo's gave them to me for a present.

I take it your Dad is still alive? Is your last name Angulo or what connection is there you mentioned earlier post that the name was in your family history... I need more info to research your relationship with Angulo. My mom was Irene Angulo she married Antonio Arriaga in 1935
The family lived in La Puente and most came from Los Nietos in Whittier CA... this was way back in the 1800's

They are, were my great grand parents grandparents and uncles and cousins... facundo came from Sonora Mx I think. He married a gal from Santa Monica CA her name and I have to look it up to be sure, was Maria Soto.... at some time the Angulos lived in Los Nietos Whittier, Fucundo lived in Azusa CA with his wife... My cousin Ruth and I have a lot of info. Our Grandfather, Facundos son Married Rosa Higuera born in California... some how or other most of our Angulo family grew up in La Puente... Lots of cousins and uncle.& aunts.. Please feel free to call me if you see a connection.. also rumor has that the name Angulo was Parra, an ancesstor Parra took the name Angulo because the Federalties were after him in Mexico ....Facundos Father was named Manuel.. more Angulo surnames........Pedro Angulo-Trinidad Valenzuela their son Tomas Angulo(1849) his wifes name was Manuela Velasquez.................they had about 10 children......years later....I found Tomas & Manuela daughter named Dolores who married Juan de dios Leyva......if any of these sound familar to you let me know & I will let you know all the names of the siblings...........also one of the other daughters of tomas & manuela was Trinidad who married Jose Ma. The census records indicate:
Reducindo Angulo born about 1857
living in Santa Barbara in 1900 and 1910 and 1920,
living in Los Angeles in 1930

My great-grandmother, named Leonila Angulo at the time,
also lived in Santa Barbara in 1925 and in Los Angeles
in 1930. Actually she was a co-owner of the
Angulo Tile Factory which was in what is today called
Reseda, California (San Fernando Valley) in the 1930s.
It probably moved from Santa Barbara after 1925.

I vaguely recall my great-grandmother had divorced her
first husband and re-married Angulo in Santa Barbara
and that her second husband (Angulo) was much much
older than her. She was born in 1902 and already had a
daughter with her in 1925 (Adele, born in 1919).

There was supposedly also a third owner of the tile
factory.

so far I've only ck'd Sonora Mexico files......various names you've shown do sound familar.....the Ibarra I was not sure of, however just recently this did come up. however not during the period you have........have Angulo-Ruiz,Angulo-Lugo,Angulo-Robles, Cuen-Angulo,Cuen-Murrieta....Angulo-Covarrubia,various families from Sonora Mexico,Yuma Az,San Luis Rio Colorado Mexico, Calif,Arizona....lucky me has many old pictures of the Cuen-Angulo,Angulo-Ruiz. don't know if any of these tie into your Angulo.....any sound like they may, let me know.............Cora.
