UTGirlTalk

I believe the William Anselmo you were asking about is my husband's great grandfather. We came across my mother in laws baby book. It list a William Anselmo as her grandfather. Madeline Mary Moreira (souza) as grandmother. Alberta Ruth Anselmo as mother. They are all from Hayward, CA. We have been having a hard time putting it all together. Alberta went by Alberta Souza. I think when William died in 1945, Madeline remarried Manuel S Souza Jr, had 2 more sons and Alberta just then changed her name.
I keep on hitting a road block with William Anselmo.
Thanks Tammy

Saludos.

Anselmo's from Mazarro Del Vallo Sicily and St. Louis Missouri

I am searching for Anselmo's that came from Mazarro Del Vallo Sicily and settled in St. Louis Missouri. My Grandfather Giuseppe (Joe) Anselmo was the son of Giovanni and Giuseppina Anselmo. Her maiden name may have been Patoa?? He emigrated to the U.S. in 1908 at the age of 16. His younger brother, Frank followed in 1910. I believe they had another brother, Vito, who I think remained in Castelvetrano Sicily. He married my Grandmother, Maria Distefano on April 6, 1913 in St. Louis, MO. They had 3 sons, John, Ignazio Eugene (my dad) and Joseph. My Grandpa was murdered in December 1925. Anyone that is part of this family or has information, please contact me at charlenetack@hotmail.com

i think we belong to the same family. my grandfather was salvatore guiseppe cosimano, born 1894 in baltimore, died 1968 in dc. he had many brothers ( i heard 10?),but my father spoke of frank, jerome, tony (antonino), joseph; and a sister mary, who married nunzio bonarrigo, a barber, of baltimore. i think salvatore's father was joseph cusimano from termini immerese and his mother carmela guarino, but i don't know for sure. do you have information that would corroborate this? my grandfather was a banker, but his brothers were greengrocers, at the old center market in dc. please answer!

My Anzelmo Family is from Burgio, Sicily. When they came to American the spelling was changed to Anselmo. They migrated from New York to Chicago, Illinois, to Pueblo, Colorado. Some moved to Texas (my branch). I am in touch with the Anzelmo's in Sicily (after 100 years I found them).
My ancestors are Vito, Frank, Girolamo, Anna Maria (married Sclabra).

Hello Fran: I ran into a cousin on the Anselmo side and in was told that my grandfather Giovanni Anselmo had a brother Santo and one sister who remained in Montemaggiore. She became a nun. I was also told that my grandfather was an orphan and was raised in a monestary or convent. I do not have any proof of this story and will continue searching. Perhaps way back then, most of theAnselmos from Montemaggiore were related somehow.

Is there anyone in the family able to tell you anything?
Hi Fran: I have often wondered if us "Northerners" had any family in Louisiana. But I have no way of knowing at least on the Anselmo side of the family. I have come across many Anselmos going to Louisiana in doing research. The funny thing is that on my mother's side, everyone was born and raised in Louisiana. The name is GIOELI/GIOELE. My mother and all her sisters and brothers were born in Simmesport

My grandfather Anselmo is Giovanni and he married Angela Dominica Valvo. My Anselmos are from Montemaggiore. If I am not mistaken, so is your husband's family.

If there is some background on your northern relatives, please let me know the names and places and dates. Maybe there is a connection.

Angela

Hi Mary: Although there are some names that match up - this is what I know.

My g-father's name - Giovanni Anselmo
My father's name - Louis Anselmo

My g-father married Angela Dominica Valvo - don't know when or where. My father's sister, Josephine married George Ippolito and my father's brother, Joseph married a Canadian girl, Rosalie MacGuiness. They are all dead.

My grandfather came from Montemaggorie, Sicily, don't know when, but I am assuming he arrived in the US at Ellis Island, but don't know for sure.

I don't recall any mention of family in California, but who knows.

My phone # is (716) 886-4023. It is nearly 11pm and am signing off. You are hours behind us. Where in California are you located. I have only been to San Diego and it is very beautiful. I am 64 years old.

Angela

I would like to ask all of you with the surname Anselmo if you know where it originates from? My surname is ANSERMOZ and this originates from Switzerland where I have traced back my family tree. My Great Grandfather was Swiss. As both surnames are quite similar, It would be nice to know if anybody could through some light onto this subject. Thanks for reading this and I hope to hear from any of you in the near future. It was said when my mother and father visited Switzerland that Ansermoz did originate from a 'mis-spelling' of Ansermoy, Ansermol etc.....
