Yes.

Sinclair Lawson, who was a tug boat captain on the Great Lakes, was one of Georgina Lawson's younger brothers. Sinclair Lawson died in Alpena, Michigan on 4 Apr 1923.

And, just to confuse things - Sinclair's father was also named Sinclair. Sinclair Lawson Sr. was born in Ireland in about 1820 and arrived in Canada before 1845. His wife's name was Elizabeth Jardine.

Ludlow Anson Greene Co. NY 1798-186?

Looking for the parentage of Ludlow Anson born abt. 1798 in Greene Co. NY. He is living in the Cairo area of Greene Co. in most census'. First wife was Content who died abt. 1849 and married second Polly Hateman Race abt. 1850. I am looking into the possibility that Nathan Anson may be his father. He is living in Greene Co. NY on the 1800 US Census with 2 males that are 10 and under which would fit with Ludlow's birth year. Polly Anson is buried with her first husband Michael Race in Cairo Cemetery but I haven't come across a grave for Ludlow yet. I would also like to find a complete list of children for Ludlow and Content Anson as most are born and were out of the house as of the 1850 Census. Is anyone researching this family???

My grandmother was Jennie Anson who married Thomas W. Wride. I am trying to nail down all the Wride connection. I have a photo of Sinclair Lawson who I think lived in Alpena, sailed on the lake boats and my dad called him Uncle Sinc. Did Georgena have a younger brother Sinclair? Do you know?

Just saw your message even though it is 9 years old. I am related to Rebecca Anson Brooks also. Rebecca married Jehiel Brooks. Their son William is my great-great grandfather who married Nancy Griffith. I live in Indiana and started doing research on the Brooks family. My great-grandmother was Eliza Jane Brooks, who married William Oakley.
I remember going to the Brooks family reunion in Indianapolis when I was young and then for some reason it was disbanded. I am 61 now and the family that is left can only remember a few names of those who attended the reunion. I found some of the Ansons and Griffiths and a few Brooks during my research.
Do you have much info on the Brooks side? I found a story where Rebecca and her son William moved to Indiana in 1839 after the death of Jehiel.
Any info would be a big help.
Thank you for any help.

Janet Curry

Hello,

I'm working on the same Edward Mason Anson family. This is what I have (so far):

Edward Mason Anson (Sr) was born Oct 2/0 1853/4 probably in Nottinghamshire, England. Although Edward's marriage certificate (he married Agnes Georgina Lawson on 10 Nov 1878 in Moulton, Ontario) indicates that his parents were William Manson Anson and Jane Anson, English records suggest that Edward was the illegimate son of Jane Anson. In the 1861 Census, Edward was living with his grandparents, George & Mary Anson, in Balderton, Nottinghamshire. In 1863? Edward's mother, Jane, married Alfred Stephenson, and in 1869, Edward enlisted in the Royal Navy as 'Edward Stevenson'. Edward left the Navy in about 1871/2 (after the 1871 Census) and ended up in Ontario.

I have quite a bit more on this family if you want to e-mail me directly (karp@pobox.com).

Hello to all . . . .

John Anson (b. about 1769 in PA? & d. 1848 in Ohio at
77y,8mo,13 d) and his wife Hannah (b. 01 Oct 1779 & d. 04 Sept 1856 in Ohio)came to Ohio in 1818 and settled in S/W Clinton County, Ohio near Villar's Chapel which is not far from CUBA, OH. They had eleven (11) children.

One of the sons - Samuel H. Anson - (b. 18 March 1799 in NJ and d. 22 April 1850 in Ohio) married Elizabeth Burr (04 Nov 1803 and d. 23 August 1852) who was a cousin of Aaron Burr. They were married in Clinton County, OH on 08 Feb 1821.

Samuel & Elizabeth had fourteen (14) children. None of them were named Lucretia.

They had five (5) girls who lived and five (5) boys who lived.

Samuel was a brother to my 2nd Great-Grandfather, Andrew Anson.

I have not found a Lucretia or Robert listed in the Clinton County, OH records.

I live about thirty (30) miles from where the Anson family settled.

I have no way of knowing where any of you live but, I would be thrilled to share any and all information that I have. I have spent untold hours researching the Clinton County, Ohio records.

I have information that John & Hannah MAY have been from NJ. However, there are no records that I can locate from that time.

I strikes me as odd that there almost no Ansons doing Anson research!

My lineage: John Anson, Andrew Anson, George Anson, Arthur Anson and my Father: Edward Anson

I Remain Your Most Humble & Obedient Servant;

Jerry W.
I have the 1790 census from Dutchess County, Washington town?? with the following Anson's: Robert, Silas, Abraham, William, Levinus, Amos, Levinus Sr., Daniel, Jeremiah, and Silas. (One must be the father to Samuel Sr.)

In 1800 the Anson's start to move around. I have Samuel Anson and Robert Anson in Clinton County, Peru town??.
Samuel has one daughter under 10 years old. (Lucretia?)

1810 Samuel Anson and Job Anson are living in Delaware County and Harperfield town??. Samuel has 3 sons under the age of 10 and 1 daughter 10-15 years.

1820 Samuel Anson is living in Saratoga County and Corinth town??. He has 1 son under 10 years, 1 son 10-16 years, 1 son 16-18 years, 1 son 16-26 years (not sure if the overlap in years means the same person or not) and no daughters (But Lucretia has married already)

1830 Samuel Arison is in Saratoga County, Providence town? with only 1 son 15-20 years still with him.

Cannot find any 1840 census for any of the Samuel Anson's. My guess is that Samuel Sr. has died in this time frame.

In 1850 Samuel Jr. is in the census in Genesee County, Pavilion town with his family

Looking to solve the above question. I am researching Gerald (Jerry) Anson who was born in Greene CO. NY. I am trying to find parentage for him. He later married Elizabeth Pomeroy and had at least two daughters, Helen and Laura in 1886. I find a Jerry on the 1870 US Census with parents Clara and father Lewis. I don't know if this is the Jerry I am looking for. Is anyone else researching this Anson family?
Robin

Arrived in America in the 1700's from England on the ship "Smith" as Henry Ansell traveling from Kent, England to Virginia. Capt. Loney departed Sept. 13, 1730 from London.

This is the information I have on Henry. It may have been a convict ship but I don't think so.
Reply to ksparklin . . . . .

Yes, I am still here and happy see that someone read and responded to my entry. Andrew is my g-g-grandfather. I have info on his parents, siblings, children etc. The info that I have indicates that Andrew was born in NJ
(1815 - 1889)

Andrew married Ruth Horsman in 1838 and they had seven (7) children. I can find info on only five (5) of them.

The children: George - my great-grandfather; Ruth who died at age 18; Amos who was born 1848; Abraham and Arthur. There are two females that I cannot account for:
Harriet (1843) limited info & Chassie (1846).

I have family info on Amos, Abraham, George and Harriet

Andrew was the third son of John and Hannah Anson. The first three children were boys.

Andrew had eight (8) brothers and two (2) sisters.

I have family info on seven (7) of them.

I live in Lebanon, OH about thirty (30) miles from where the Anson family settled in S/W Clinton County, Ohio in 1818.

Could you send your lineage so that I can check and followup with you.

If you want, I can include my telephone number for further contact.

I Remain Your Most Humble & Obedient Servant;

Jerry W.
Dear Amy . . . . .

These are not my family. My line came to S/W Ohio, Clinton County, from NJ in 1818. I have not traced any of my ancestors to MI.

I wish that I could be of more help.

I suspect that you work genealogy much as I do. I put out feelers and questions to any and all. One never knows when a piece of information may turn up.

I have not been able to trace the Anson family from NJ past 1818.
This was posted several years ago now, but if you are still here, was the Andrew Anson (1816-1889) born in PA? If so, he may be my g/g/g/ grandfather. I don't have any info for his ancestors, though, only his descendants.

Hello,

I'm not sure what the best way is to send you my lineage. Are you able to access my tree? It is set to Public, and is names "Kalee Sparklin Family Tree". If you are able to view that, it would probably be the easiest way to see the info that I have. I am the home person, and below you will see what line to follow on there. It definitely sounds like you have more Anson info than I do, but I would be happy to assist you with research, as it is my plan to be much more thorough with that lineage as well (I am really just getting started and I have 3 small children, so time is an issue :). If I am understanding things correctly, the George Anson you refer to as your great grandfather is my great great grandfather.

To explain briefly:
My Father is Randall Sparklin. His mother was Joanna Ream. Her mother was Della Anson, whose father was named George. Do we have the same line here? The info I found on Andrew Anson states that he was born in PA. I obtained that info from the 1860 Federal Census. If you are able to view my tree, you can view his profile and click on "Historical Records" to view the Census record.

Let me know if we are related!

Kalee

Andrew ANSON of Moriah, Essex, New York

I am researching this family:

Andrew ANSON (b. 1841 to Thomas ANSON and Phoebe) married Elizabeth WILLIAMS (b. abt. 1842, parents born Wales)

Children:

Harriet L. ANSON(b. 1870)
Andrew W. ANSON(b. 1872)
Phoebe ANSON(b. 1873)
Flora ANSON(b. 1877)
Chester E. ANSON(b. 1879)

Harriet was my grandfather's (William Broad GOODMAN) first wife, she died very young during a typhoid fever epidemic in 1901 in Ishpeming, Michigan.

I believe Harriet's father Andrew died young as well, and his widow, along with parents-in-law, may have resided in Denver, Colorado and/or Kansas.

Thanks ahead of time for contacts.

Amy Goodman
Ann Arbor, MI

Not sure why -- but I cannot locate that 1810 census under the incorrect spelling you gave. He must have been born in Dutchess County New York since his dad Silas - 1751 was born and died there. I obtained a book from the LDS library a couple of months back and tried to find anything on the Ansons, but nothing was in there. I know there should be more information on that country. I also have the Hibbard family there. I did find some old wills -- but no Anson wills. I will go to the library again soon and see if there is any more information I might have overlooked.

Do you know the year or approximate year of this information.
i have found Samuel Anson in the 1830 census records finally. They misspelled his name (Samuel Arison). Samuel and family were in Providence Saratoga in 1830. However, I think they were in Corinth, Saratoga in 1820. Not sure of the distance between places. Also, I have not been able to locate Samuel in an 1840 census anywhere. It is possible that Samuel Sr. may have died within this timeframe, if he is not listed at the Churches.

The 1830 census shows a William Ashley right next to Samuel Arison on the original, which makes me fairly positive that this is my Samuel Anson.

I have see the census records for Samuel Anson and it looks like there are about 5 or 6 children in that family. Don't know if they all lived to adulthood or not.

It seems odd that a Quaker girl would marry outside her faith. I thought that the Quakers were quite strict with their religion.

I would love to go to the churches where the Anson family may have been. However, I will have to content myself with trying to find phone numbers and addresses. I live in Alberta, Canada. A little far for a quick visit.

Hi!
My family line is from Lucretia Anson and William Ashley. I would like to know more about Lucretia's parents and siblings.
Lucretia is listed as a member of the Baptist Church of Christ, Providence, Saratoga County. There is also a Lydia Anson listed - not sure if she is related to Lucretia. Lydia Anson is listed as a member of the Baptist Church, Friendship.
