After some research amongst my father's side of the family I have found out that my great great grandfather, John Markham (b.1866) travelled to America at some point before he got married, and adopted the name Antcliffe. He was told that if he did so he would inherit some money.
After searching Census records, I have found him in the 1871, 1881 and 1901 forms. However, there is no trace of him in 1891, so I believe it could have been around this time when he travelled to America, but before 1895, when he married Catherine Mary Parker.
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who may have information on this (perhaps their ancestors were the Antcliffes involved) or who may know where I could find information to verify his whereabouts at this time.
Thanks in advance.
