Larry,
Hello. Is there any proof that Wilhelm, Philip and Henry were brothers? I saw a posting on here that Henry was the brother of Philip. And Philip was probable brother of Wilhelm. Thanks again, Linda

She fits into my family somewhere but I am unsure as to where since I know nothing beyond my Great-grandfather William G. Antes of Minnesota.

Hi,

I think we may be looking for the same people. My great-grandfather was William G Antes and from what I can tell, parents were Jacob and Dora Antes. Jacob born 1835 in Prussia and immigrated to USA and lived in Ohio, died 1888. When Jacob died my great-grandfather was orphaned and put on the orphan train to MN. I know he had other siblings that were older but I do not know who.

Hopefully this record works, shows the siblings.

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&gsfn=J...

Born Jan 2, 1875 and died Feb 13, 1943. Married Effie M Barker. Buried at Eagle Bend.

He was orphaned as a child and as best as I can guess his father was Jacob Antes and mother Dora.

Looking for information for his father and further back. I also have run across some census info that shows he may have gone by the "Krites" surname around the 1910 area (whole family listed as such) but went back to Antes by 1920.

Any help is appreciated!

We saw your message on Gunter Anthes and would like to know if you have any more information on his claim of tracing the family to Conrad Anthes in 1155. We found the book about the Antes family.

I sent him a note today (2/28/07) and it is as follows:

My name is Richard Andis, and Wilhelm ANTES b. 1713 in Germany, probably Meisenheim, is my ggg grandfather. I am very interested in what you have back beyond 1713 in the Meisenheim area, or any other area in which Wilehlm and his ancestors lived. I have info that the family was in Breidenau, Germany, then migrated to Calbach, Germany, in 1500s. Can send more specifics. Can you send me info re the Greek origin and what you have back to Conrad? Did they migrate from Alsace to Pfalz (Meisenheim, Calbach, Briedenau? Any new info appreciated and will be glad to reciprocate. TIA Dick Andis

Would like to correspond with you regarding info on Wilhelm of mutual interest. Dick Andis

I, Rhinehard Andes, senior, of Pitt Township, Allegheny County, & Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, being in perfect health of body, and of sound mind, memory, and understanding (blessed be god for the same), do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, Viz-
First, it is my will, and I do order, that all my just debts and funeral Expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my decease-
Also, I give, grant, and devise, to my beloved wife Katharine, all my estate, real and personal, to her use, to have and enjoy the rents and profits thereof, during her natural life-and at her decease, to descend to my Son Rhinehard Antis in fee, provided he returns home to possess the same, he paying to his sisters the following Legacies, Viz. To my step-daughter Ketty, now Katherine F_?_er, one hundred Dollars-to my daughter Dorothy, now Dorothy Troft, one hundred dollars-to my Daughter Susannah Dehuff, one Dollar, and to her oldest Son one lot in Perrys Town, #25, at the mouth of Turtle Creek, and to her other children seventy-nine Dollars to be equally divided among them and their Heirs-to Christiana Andes, now Brant, one Dollar, and to her oldest Son one lot in Perrys town, No. 41 aforsd. and her other children seventy-nine Dollars to be equally divided as aforesd.-and to my Daughter Martha Sloan one hundred Dollars. This payment of these Legacies by my Son Rhinehart, are to be executed and discharged in the following manner-one hundred Dollars to the oldest, as Katharine, the year after he takes possession, and so on yearly, over each year, untill they are all paid, and without Interest.
And, if my Son, the said Rhinehart Andes, does not return and take possession of the property, real and personal, hereby granted and devised to him at or before his Mother's Death, then all my property, real and personal, to be sold, and the money to be equally divided among my Daughters herein before named, and their Heirs, share and share alike.
And lastly I nominate and appoint and constitute my trustly friends Jno. McDowell and Geo. Wallace, Esquier, both of Pitt Township aforesd. to be the executors of this my last will, hereby revoking all other wills, legacies, and beequests, by me heretofor made, and declaring this, and no other, to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty-sixth Day of March in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eight.
/s/ Reinhard Andes
Signed, sealed, published, pronounced and declared by the said Testator asa his last will and testament, in the presence of us, who in his presence and at his request have subscribed as witnesses.
/s/ James Crozier
/s/ William Crozier
James Crozier & Wm Crozier were Duly sworn to the validity of this will this 19th day of Nov. A.D. 1811.
/s/ James Crozier
/s/ W. Crozier"
(Allegheny Co, Pennsylvania, will packets, v. 1, p. 326, No. 240; FHL film #1,653,554. Paragraph structure and some punctuation edited.
_________________________

He was in Yohogania Co, Va., as early as 1778 (probably later Allegheny Co., Pa). He probably died before the 1810 census, although the probate looks a little late. Catharine died about 1827, and her grandson Frederick Bausman was administrator of her estate.

My husband is a descendant of daughter Dorothea/Dorothy (Antes) (Bausman) Trough.

I believe that the given name Richard, published accounts to the contrary, is just over-zealous "Americanization" on some authors' parts. I have found him in many records and, except for one newspaper piece about an auction of land adjoining his, he is always some variation of Reinhart; note the names in the will. His daughter Dorothy named a son Reinhart Antes Bausman.

I have been unable to determine the identity of his parents, again published reports to the contrary that call him the son of Phillip Fredrick and Barbara (Tyson) Antes. The dates don't work there. He was probably born before 1747 (if he was in the French and Indian War as his son-in-law DeHuff claimed. Age-wise he could be the eldest son of Rev. Henry Antes (Philip Frederick's father); however, Henry named all of his children in his will and there was not Reinhart (nor Richard for that matter). There are many Antes/Antis groups in the area, many of which were probably not related to the Philip Frederick/Henry clan.

Have you learned anything else since you posted your message?

Hello,

I am not familiar with any person by the name of Kenith Antes.Considering the large number of Antes (both living and dead) in the United States and in Germany one would need to know an approximate birth date and possible birth location for any specific person before they would be able to help you.

Good luck in your research.

Wilhelm /Philip anthes

Some info you might find interesting. The Anthes family held a family reunion in the town of Meisenheim Germany in 1975. The host of the reunion was Gunter Anthes who is or was the secretary of the European Genealogy society. One of the participants to the reunion Was a Mrs Rodreguez, Maiden name Anthes . Mrs Rodreguez is a direct decendant of Philip Antes , Colonel in Washingtons army and founder of Antes fort in Pa. She had all the papers in order for Philips family and of course her DAR membership papers. As you probably know there is no sound inthe German language for the letters t and h combined. As a result helpfull clerks in most government offices drop the h and use soundex spelling. Thus we have the Name Anthes becoming Antes Antis etc Gunter has had a stroke and also a bout with epilepsy this past two yearsbut the last word I have on his activities is that he haS RESEACHED THE ANTHES FAMILY back to Conrad Anthes In the year 1155 in Alsace lorraine. I have the records only going back to 1716 and am hoping Gunter gives me a copy of his last work. This Family is originally Greek The name being the Greek word for flower. Have more tidbits of info if you are interested. Write and I'll give you what I have. Larry

Synquiss,

You need to share a little more information on your family before someone will be able to give you much help. Knowing where your family lived in the United States and what years they were born would be a very big help. If you don't know when they were born try to give a guess. The best people to start with is your parents. Have them share all they can with you. Once you get more information post a new question and someone might be able to help you.

Good luck. Maria Susannah Williams; Mary Antes b. 1787 m Isaiah Goodfellow; Summerfield Goodfellow b 1832 m Jeanette MacGraw-(etc,line in San Francisco) Now and Then, Volume XIV, April 1965 p 325 has the following: Immigrant Philip Frederic Antos naturalized at Philadelphia 12 Sept 1742 (PA Arch II Ser, Vol 2, pg 355), wife Anna Katharine Kinder, children born at Freinsheim, on Rhine, Germany, and baptized St. Reformed Church-record still there. It goes on to list their 7 children bapt. between 1701 and 1716. Perhaps the same church records could help determine whether Wilhelm is Philip Frederic Antos/Antes' brother.

I am also descended from Philip Frederick Antes and his wife Maria Susannah Williams. I have the following children listed for them (from biography of Col. John Henry Antes in Now and Then, Vol XIV, april 1965 p 325 and will of Philip Antes 1831, Lawrence Township, Clearfield Co, PA): Philip Frederick m Jane Holt, John m Esther Iddings, Henry m Catharine Foster, Mary m. Isaiah Goodfellow (my line), William, Susanna m John Patton, Elizabeth m Moses Boggs, and Philip Milton m Mary Caldwell. The children were born between 1781 and 1800 in Sunbury, Antes Fort, and Bald Eagle. I am looking for more info on Mary Antes marriage to Isaiah Goodfellow (when and who were his parents, etc, and also on a possible earlier marriage for her to Hiriam Miller). Also, does anyone know anything more about Maria Susannah Williams Antes?

Hello I'm Geraldine Heyel. I'm working on my family tree and looking for information as well. Breitenheim Germany sounds familiar as well as Johann Heyel. There are many many Johanns as I've discovered so far. I will try to compile what information I have and post again.
Gerry

There are Antes families in the Southern Rhineland-Pfalz area of Germany. Another variation of the name in the same village is 'Anthes'. This village is right on the German side of the French-German border. The village is named Oberotterbach. As far back as 1686 there are records of the Antes family living there. This is the wine region of Germany and very beautiful. The information that you heard about the Antes family being from Germany may be true, as far as my records go. Good luck in your search!
Steve Dahl
