Antis/Ontis/Ontos

I'd be interested in knowing more about your kin. My 1st direct Ontis just pops up 1st in Onondaga co. NY in 1812. He signed with a Mark, so was illiterate. Moved to IL about 1824 after appearing on 1820 census in Salina as Ontis, but the entry was missed when they made the index for that year!
He was born about 1790, but have so fat been unable to find plausible candidate in extant records. 2 boys left behind in NY later moved to Ohio KS served in Civil War, descendants of Ohio branch moved to MI Col. few clear records to help us reconstruct. I'm certain that Ahntis/Antis of NY state, if we could "tree" them would solve our questions. So far it seems no one has my searches go unanswered.
Most of what I know comes from Jone's Palatines to America books.
