Who's working on the Antoine's from Mattawa? Let's put our resourses together and get this done! I've attached documents showing brothers Jawbone,Francois,Alexander and sister Susan Commanda's families. Their parents were Antoine Nijekwiwisens and Elizabeth Nibeinekijikokwe. I don't have anything solid going back any farther. Can anyone help? Can I help anyone?

I'm trying to find out about Magdalena Antoine (b. approx. 1810-1825), wife of Joseph Knopf. Both died at Trimbach, Bas Rhin, France.

They had a daughter, Magdalena (Knopf), b. Trimbach, circa 1845 d. 1896, Neubois, Bas Rhin), married to Georg Collin, b. 1837, Neubois d. 1889, Neubois. Georg & Magdalena had 7 children - 5 girls & 2 boys.

I have found the same mystery as to some using Antoine and others using another name. My husband's grandmother was Delilah Antoine who married Henry Layo. Delilah had a rother lexander who married Ida Locey and they had eleven children. Those I know the name of are Daniel, William Francis Ercil, Martin, no first name for four of them, Fernie, Donald Joseph, Ethel Christina and Mary Lyra Louise - all using Antoine according to my records. Another name they use is Lashway.. In a news article of Ida Antoine she lists Daniel of Watertown, Ercil of Springfield N. J., Martin of Loulinette; Mrs. Robert Miller, Mrs. Wilson Denneny, Mille Roches; Mrs. Floyd Fyckes, Brockville, Mrs. Albery Denney Mille Roches and Miss Fernie Antoine of Brockville. She also had five brothers and three sisters. Be glad to share what information I have although I do not have a lot. I do genealogy as Historian for our community so get little chance to do any of my own or my husband's family. That is why I am so late in responding to your message.

My husband's grandmother was Delilah, dau of Pet(Tete/Peck) Antoine/Langevin and Lucinda Smith. Here is what I have on Alexander (Delilah's brother) and his wife Ida Locey. Children Fernie (no date of birth), Martin (no date of birth), Daniel b. 1888, Effie C. (or Ethel C.) b. 1890, Robert James b. 1891, Donald John b. 1892, Ercil b. 1893, Lena Mary Louise m. Robt. Miller b. 1896, Nellie Mertil m. Albert Denneny b. 1898, Charles Sidney b. 1898, Ada (Mary Eileen) m. Nelson Denneny b. 1899, and Hazel May m. Frank Fyckes b. 1901. I tried to blend two lists where the names were difference (first names) and came up with this list and you will see what other names were on some of the research as I put these names on this list also. A big family and I think most of them were from Canada. My father in law was Daniel Layo whose mother was Delilah Antoine. She was buried on Barnhart Island which is now a U. S. Island in the state of New York.

Stanley Sr.'s parents were Audry Webb and Sylvester Mose Antoine. Grand parents were Kate & Mose Antoine. You and Stanley are kin!

lori....i am the grand-daughter of mose and kate antoine. my mother was delia agnes antoine. i have found family info going back to my great-grandparents...born around 1843. i have been searching for a very long time and waiting for any responses..i am so pleased in receiving your message!! i have seen your listing in people search......i have so many antoine's....but never knew which ones were connected to my family. i would be more than happy to share with you what info i have. may i write?........

has ambrose jr. contacted the tribe (i'm assuming the grv...grand river) to get the details of what is needed for membership? and how far back in lineage does he needs to go? i'm in the process of certified copies; also proof that i am the same person that is named on my birth certificate from 1952. also proof of my connection to the durant roll of 1907. you have gone further back in the family than i have....you have done a very good job, i think.......i'm checking in the national archives for us........it might take a while....... sandi

thank you for the detailed info..i will keep all of this information and do some digging. my purpose is to be enrolled with the grand river band. i too must prove my connection with the tribe. i have found the proof, and must now get certified copies of birth cert, divorce (name change), marriage papers, etc. my connection to the durant roll is my grandparents, mose (moses) and kate skinhorn antoine, an aunt rosie, and an uncle...sylvester antoine. delia my mother, was full-blood ottawa......i however, am not that lucky.....1/2 for me. i too was unable to locate ambrose sr......i have some other sources that will useful in my search. may i ask..is your brother-in-law in michigan? i hope to be making a trip to mi within the next 6 months......i must go for now....more later.........................sandi

thanx for the quick reply.....mose antoine was my maternal grandfather. his daughter (born 1921) was my birth mother, delia a antoine. she died june 1996 in traverse city, michigan. i was adopted june 5, 1952 in clinton, iowa; grew up in cedar falls, ia. it has been just in the last 3 years that i have looked into genealogy......i must go...my time is running out..(at library)...again thanx!! perhaps we can work together and find out more on the antoine's.....sandi s

I am researching this lineage for my brother-in-law who was Isaac's grandson. We are trying to get him on the roll but ran across some
missing info. My brother-in-laws name is Ambrose Antoine. His father
was Ambrose Antoine Sr, his father was Isaac and Marry, his father was Ambrose Antoine and thats as far as we go. Now on the wife's side, we go back as far as Minnie Bananas who was the wife of the father of Isaac. Can't find anything on the Antoines farther than my brother-in-laws gr grandfather. Not too familiar with the Durant Roll other than what I found on the Internet. Anything you could give us would be welcomed as we have very little to go on. I do know Ambrose Sr had a brother named Charles. We must be on the right track.

thank you for your reply. i have been using the durant roll of 1908 as a guide for my search. i am a decendant of mose & catherine. i found isaac and mary antoine on the roll. the ref #, which is the first column, is the # assigned to a specific family. moses (mose, moises) antoine's family # is 2. isaac antoine had a family # of 2. (also known as the worksheet number) both persons are grand river band of ottawa's. i see isaac had a child born (which is on the supplemental roll) by the name of charles, born may 17, 1907. i think there is a good probability that these two antoines were brothers. if you have a understanding of the durant roll, i could use some assistance. what is your interest with isaac & mary, if you don't mind me asking? concerning mary....moses antoine was the wife of isaac. thank you again for your time. please email me if we have common interest in this antoine family. sandi shepard

Ambrose Jr is half Ottawa and half Cheyenne.
He is tracking his father's side now since he has all info on his moms
side. We have Ambrose Jr's grandfather was Isaac whose father was Ambrose b 1845. Who was his father, etc. Here is the info I have on
Ambrose Jr.
His father was Ambrose Sr. b 1913 in Minors Roeway, MI (of which I can not locate) and he married Louise (the Cheyenne)
Ambrose Sr's father and mother was Isaac b 1885 in Manistee County, MI and married Marry (Keywayquom Metawkoo) b 1890 in Elbridge Township, Oceana County MI.
Isaac's father was Ambrose b 1845 in Bear Creek Twp, Emmet County , MI who married Minnie Bananas (Menomquay) b 1853 in Newaygo County Newaygo, MI.
That's as far back as we have. We also know Ambrose Sr has some brothers and sisters. Charles W., Josephine, Rosemond, and Cecilia A.
His parents, Isaac and Marry, died of some epidemic leaving Ambrose Sr. to live with brother Charles. He attended Holy Childhood School in Harbor Springs, but we have no record of that. Then he attended Haskell Junior College in Lawrence Ks which I am currently working for proof of that. We have no birth records of Ambrose Sr being told all info was lost in a fire. Thought there may be a church or something with his baptism somewhere.
Ambrose Jr is trying to get on the Ottawa Roll and has to have proof of his lineage. Some of this is very difficult so ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Let's see....if Isaac was Ambrose Jr's grandfather and Moses was Ambrose Jr''s gr uncle that would make you 2nd cousins. You are correct. How cool. We found a relative.

I do not know if we have a connection. I have no other information except that which is in the previous message. We are certain that Peter was Idas father but are not sure of her mothers information. I actually have two photos of the parents taken many yrs apart and the woman may not be the same. They are in the hands of a nephew just now but I will be happy to e-mail them to you as soon as possible.

Carolus and Constantine are thought to be twin brothers sho came from Alsace Lorraine, France. The are in St. Clair County in the 1870's. Carolus AKA Charles married to Magdalena Brannes had Jules, Adam and Mary Josephine.

I am the wife of Stanley Antoine Jr. His father Stanley just passed away on Feb 7 2005 in East Jordan, Mi. I am also looking for Info on this family, Kate and Mose were my husbands great great grandparents.I live near East Jordan and would be glad to do any digging on this that I can and get the info back to you. Hi Ann,
The Antoine family has turned out to be quite a group to research. I was lucky enough to find a few "cousins" that had done much work already. Martin Antoine was the son of Alexander Antoine (sometimes Langevin) and Ida Losey. I believe Martin was the eleventh of 13 children. He was probably born in Moulinette, as were his siblings, at about 1903. I believe he had 4 children including Eleanor, Bob and Betty. He died some time after 1935.

I have a cousin Jennie Martel born 1898 d/o Aunt Marie Helen Bourdeau b 1862 and Francois Martel.
Jeannie married Stanley b1885 Anotine s/o Pet/Peck Antoine (Antoine Langeour and UNK.) Peck Antoine married Lucinda/Lorinda Smith b 1835.
Loretet Antoine d/o Stanley ;and Jennie married Bernard Cain Nativity B.V.M. St Marys, Williamstown April 24, 1948. Supposedly they then lived in Providence, RI.
