The Civil War record actually says he deserted the infantry on 8 April 1864 and one record says he mustered out on 8 April 1864. This infantry spent a significant time in Louisiana and in April they were right by Indianola where 417 or 515 reenlisted as veterans. It seems he may have met a girl...possibly and decided to stay in Mississippi. I too have been on the search for the mothers name and am trying to acquire a marriage certificate of Sally Ann Antrim and George Barnes my ggg-grandparents.
