Suzanne,
I believe the father of James M. Antwine is
J. Gersham Antwine b. 1773 North Carolina
Son of Andrew Antwine
The 1830 census record for Jones County, NC indicates J. Gersham Antwine had a wife, 3 sons, 2 daughters and 2 slaves. He lived in Jones County, North Carolina through 1850. In the 1860 census Gersham is 84 years old and found living in Kemper County, Mississippi with the family of William W. and Mary W. Little. William and Mary were both born in North Carolina. Mary could possibly be a granddaughter of Gersham who married a William W. Little. The names of Gersham’s daughters are not known.
The 1830 census of Jones County, NC provided the following information and I have added the names I believe fit the birth year range in the census.
Geshum Antwine head of house. (Note misspelling).
1 male 5 – 10 years old b. 1825 – 1820 James M. Antwine b. 1824

1 female 50 – 60 b. 1780 – 1770 Sara Antwine, wife b. ?
1 male slave 10 – 20
1 female slave 10 – 20
Census records show that James M. Antwine moved to Hardeman County, Tennessee and William Antwine moved to Shelby County, Tennessee after 1830.
Another son of Andrew, Gersham's brother William, moved to Dyer County Tennessee about the same time. James M. Antwine married Susan Brown the daughter of Leroy Brown who were neighbors of William Antwine in NC.
In 1860 the James M. Antwine family is living in Tippah County, Mississippi with Susan Brown and her daughter, Hannah.
Lots of Williams and James' in this family to keep straight!
Let me know if this helps.
