Hi David;

My Grandmother says her mother is the Granddaughter of Cochise, her life ended in Katula, Texas in the 20's.

My Grandmother doesn't talk much about this. I think she thinks I would kick up the dust and the mayhem of the past therefore making her life long endeavor of us intergrating into this rediculous "country" and lifestyle as a failure.

I hear them in my heart all the time. Judging by your few words I felt you've heard them to.

Do you?

B L Barragon
Re: Apache geronimo

Hi Christy;

I am also researching. My Grandmother has stated repeatedly throughout the years that my Great Great Grandmother was Cochise's daughter and the sister of one of these three wives. This particular sister was killed with her babies during a raid by what is beleieved to be Mexicans.

Cochise's granddaughter (my G Grandmother) ended up in South East Texas in the Katula area. My Grandmother was the last of us born in a (tent or a tepee) -whatever she meant as she is limited by her own vocabulary and perception, it is was outdoors natural style.

My Grandmother is in her late '80's. She has always been an angry woman with an eternal scoul. She has worked hard through her years to intergrate into the Colonial life as she was inspired to do by her mother who was told to do so by Cochise who was of the opinion that we should live in peace and learn the new way. Hence our line leaves the reservation in 1948. Many of the brothers fought in WWII (working on getting the documentation.)

My Grandmother only started recently to open up about this.
Her name is Santa Vargas, her parents lived on a reservation (don't know which) until they died young in an automobile accident.

Perhaps, your husband is my cousin.

B L Barragon
Cochise Family Members

Many thanks to Natasha Goforth for her reply. I am looking for a geneaology that provides information on the family of Cochise. I specifically want information on a man whose was known as Antonio Apache. He was captured by the Military in Southeastern New Mexico in 1877, sent east and educated. He may have been adopted into a military family. I do not have that information yet. In 1893 he was an ethnologist at the World's Fair in Chicago. Later he was a businessman in Southern California. Military and school records report that he was the son of Juan who was the brother of Cochise. Another document says he was the grandson of Cochise.

I also have a photo of two women who are identified as daughters of Cochise, Dash-den-shoos and Naithlotonz. They were given the Anglo names of Bridget and Susan.

Can anyone help me with information about the relatives of Cochise and Antonio Apache. Thanks so much.

Kathy Howard
10642 East San Salvador Drive
Scottsdale, AZ 85258-6115
(602) 321-3227
Kathy.Howard@asu.edu

My G-G Grandfather is believed to be Cochise. My Grandmother is Napanee Inez Grayhorse Goforth. Her father is Benito Altaha Gohmehcias. Benito was one of the sons of Cochise. We can't prove this yet because the records burned in a fire. Benito died when Napanee was 10. She grew up in Murrow Indian Orphanage and then went to Bacone College in Muskogee, OK. We would love to find some way to prove this is all true. If anyone has more info. please contact me.
Natasha Goforth
natasha_g_00@yahoo.com
