I'm looking for any information on the Apel family. This is what I have so far; my great grandfather is Charles Frederick Apel, born Aug. 1863 in Germany. He immigrated to U.S.A. in 1884. He married Margaret Trainor from Ireland. They lived in New Jersey, had four children:James H., Fredrick C., Margaret E., and William E. Apel all born in New Jersey. In 1910 he was a watchman, Parlin Works. He lived in Kearney, Hudson Co., N.J. in 1910. I belong to his son, Frederick C. Apel's line. Frederick C. Apel had six children: Fredrick, Harry, Gladys, Warren, Lloyd and Charles Ralph Apel. I am Charles's daughter - one of seven children. Any information that links us would be helpful. Thank you, Kathy Apel Sorenson

My name is Kathy Apel Sorenson. You are my relative I am almost positive. I am doing geneology research. Is your grandfather Charles Fredrick Apel? He was born in Aug. 1863 in Germany. His children were James H. Apel, Jun. 1892, in New Jersey, Fredrick C. Apel, born in Oct. 1895, in New Jersey, Margaret E. Apel, born in Feb.1897 and William E. Apel, born about Jan.. 1902 in New Jersey. All of my "Apel" relatives live in the New Jersey area. Belford, New Jersey, Monmouth County, Essex, and other New Jersey locations are where my ancestors, living and dead, are from.
Please let me know if any of this information is helpful and if we have common great grandparents. My great grandmother is Margaret Trainor Apel from Ireland. She was born in 1870 and immigrated in 1886 to the United States of America. She married Charles Fredrick Apel. He immigrated in 1884 from Germany to the United States of America. I just wonder if James H. Apel, is the same as Harry James Apel? Or, the second generation that I have is that Charles Frederick Apel had Fredrick C. Apel, who had a son named Harry Apel in 1920. I don't know if we are related but it would be interesting to find out! please respond and let me know if any of this information is relevant to you. Thanks. Kathy Apel Sorenson.

Godfry Charles Apel, Wood county, texas

I am looking for information regarding the death of Godfry Charles Apel. Godfry was the son of William Apel and M.E. Reich of the Redland community. According to the 1880 census, he was born around 1867 (he was 13 at the time of the census) and was a farm laborer with his father.

Wood county marriage records show that he married Olivia Louise Hobbs on May 11th, 1885. Other folk's research shows that he had three children; Helena (Nell) Blanch Apel, Marion Charles Apel and James Godfrey Apel (my g-g-grandfather), the latter two born in Mineola Tx.

I recently visited the Mineola area and could not find a grave for Godfry Charles. His last son, James Godfrey, was born in 1892 and his wife had a forth child named William Lafayette Hart in 1896, leaving me to suspect that Godfry Charles died between 1892 and 1896. Also, I do not know exactly where her forth child was born or who his father was. There is a wild family story associated with this, but it would be much easier to believe if there was some concrete evidence. Any information would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks!

William (Gottlieb) Apel is also my 4th great grandfather. Hello cousin! I would be extreamly interested in seeing that letter you mentioned, or a transcription of it. I'm currently searching for information on the death of his son, Godfrey Charles Apel. If you know anything, please let me know. Thanks.

Is that anywhere near Weimar? The letter I have stated that there were still some Apels in that area in 1948. I am going to Dresden and would very much like to find the cemetery my ggg grandfather referred to. I am wondering what religion they were. I know they were not Jewish and I have found no Catholic references, so my only other guess would be Lutheran. I am not sure what religion they were after they arrived in America.

I would be interested in any of the Apel family.
Is Corrine in Wood County? I live in Kaufman County about 50 miles east of Dallas. And can go to see her, if it is better for her. My Grandfather is Billie Paul Mount, I wonder if he knows her? He is 84. Let me know!~
Ginger

I have the original someplace - it is such a poor copy that you may not even be able to read it - it was copied on 11x14 paper but there were some edges missing.

The good news is that my mom says she is almost certain that Corrine is still alive - she is in her 90's and the last I heard (a few years ago) was still mowing her own grass!!! I am going to call my Grandma tomorrow and see if she can get me in touch with Corrine and get a better copy of the original.

Habie Apel Harbuck is buried in Fielders cemetery in Homer Texas. I have a copy of her gravesite, and a couple of her and most of her children, if you are interested in those as well.

I am jealous that you are in Dallas. I am in Orange (near Beaumont, where I grew up) but I started my family history research at the Dallas library and it really is first class. I moved to Houston later and their library was not as "user friendly" in my opinion.

Dana
If you can get me a copy of the letter I can get a true translation of it. I am rusty with my German but the rest of my high school friends are not. We were all in the German club in high school, and after 25 years most are very active in the German community in the Dallas area. I also have access to 2 German teachers. :)
My great grandmother told me about the Apel family that was back in Germany behind the Iron Curtain. She never told me who but that they were still over there.

William Apel is buried in Turner Cemetery in Wood County. His birth date is 15 nov 1823, And death date is 21 Aug 1898.
I think that I took a picture when I went last time. Let me look through my stuff to find it.
Later!
Ginger

The elder William was my fourth great grandfather. The 1880 census lists him as being born in "Gran Duchie". I am going to Germany next month and I would very much like to find out where this is. He was born in 1823 or 1824. I have a letter that he wrote to his sister Christel or Chrintel (you would not believe the story behind how I got this letter and the German lady who sent it to my aunt back in 1948 typed up a translation but some of it is hard to read). He mentions missing "all his dears" back in the "Fatherland" and mentions that he would like to see the cemetery where his relatives are buried. He asks Christel to plant a juniper bush on "Maria's" grave if she gets a chance.

The lady who sent the original back to my aunt was writing from Gerstungen (have not been able to find it on a map) but she mentions that the Apel name still survives and also mentions the city of Weimar (which I do find on a map) in relation to the family.

William Apel had a daughter named Sarah Habile "Habie" Apel. She married WT Harbuck. They had 8 children: Guss, Earl, Charley, Betrees, Mark, Luceal, Odest, and Rheudell (who died at or shortly after birth). Mark Franklin Harbuck married Jennie Lee Williams. They had five children, one of which is my grandmother Marjorie Harbuck Burris.

I have the Social Security application for Wesley Robert Apel. He applied at the age of 46. He lists his birthdate as Jan 5, 1890 in Mineola, Wood County, Texas, where he was still living (address 701 Pacific, employed as a conductor). His parents are Hiram Wesley Apel and Lizzie L. Hale.

I have a picture of Habie Apel, but I do not have one of either of her parents. If you or anyone else has any information about where I might find "Maria's" grave, or who she is, please contact me! This may be my only chance to go to Germany. I promise to share any and all information I have.

Dana
danas_75150@yahoo.com

I did receive some information on the family from Sharon Prickett but not all of it was complete. I would love to add this information to my file. The book was printed last June, but I'm always adding and updating. Joyce

hi bill! do you happen to know if carl or charles vorpagel had a previous wife and children from her also? i am not sure if the information i have found is right. my great-great grandfather was emil vorpagel. he was a policeman in detroit. i have heard that carl or karl was the name of his father and that his mother´s name was theresia. the 1880 census says after living in wayne county, michigan carl went by the name of charles. any info, any connection?
lisa
dolphyn722@aol.com

Hi Lori,
Thank you for your reply. Hitting a dead end can't seem to find anymore information on him sent for many records from NY City with no luck which doesn't make any sense to me since 1900 census has him living in manhatten and he died 1907 so it is believed he also died there.
anyway Thank You again,
Ralf
