Richard:
I may need more information from you. I couldn't find your grandmother, Frances Elizabeth Aplin, in my records. Let's see what you think of what follows:
I located the marriage of Edwin Aplin, son of James, who married Fanny Stanton, dau. of John, at Crewkerne, Somerset on 6th December,1846. It would be understandable that they might have called a son William Stanton Aplin. That Edwin Aplin was a son of James Aplin who married Elizabeth Hodges at Broadwinsor, Dorset, on 6th March,1810. He was born at Broadwinsor on 10th March,1827, and not at Taunton, Somerset in 1822 as you suggested.
The Census of 1871 at Bridport provides the following information:
Edwin Aplin,born Broadwinsor-1827,father, Smith Fitter, North Allington,Bridport.
Fanny Aplin,born Crewkerne-1828,wife.
Mary Ann,born Crewkerne-1850, dau.
James,born Beaminster-1853,son, Tinman.
William,born Beaminster-1857, son, scholar.
Anne,born Beaminster-1851, dau.,Fine Thread Winder.
Sarah,born Beaminster-1860, dau.,scholar.
Bessie,born Allington-1864, dau.,scholar.
Joseph,born Allington-1868, dau.,scholar.
James Aplin was baptised on 30th May, 1790, at Broadwinsor, a son of Mary Aplin, single woman, baptised at Broadwinsor on 17th July, 1761. She was a daughter of Zachariah Aplin (1720-1785) and Agnes Munden who were married at Broadwinsor on 15th October, 1738. Zachariah Aplin was a son of William Aplin (1695- ), who was a son of Zacharias Aplin (1659-1722) and Ann. Zacharias Aplin was a son of Richard Aplin who married Mary Hilcombe at Combe St Nicholas, Somerset, and at Broadwinsor, Dorset, on the same day: 31st October, 1655.
Richard and Mary are our common ancestors.
You have many "cousins" in Australia and many more in both USA and England, I suspect. However, if you would like a copy of my draft Family Tree, I suggest you email your postal address to me as there is simply too much to put on the internet...snail mail!
Richard: I would be delighted to hear your comments as to the above or to answer any of your questions, if I can. I would love to hear where your research leads you in tracing this amazing family of ours, especially if you can trace our ancestry back beyond Richard and Mary.
Best wishes'
Bill Aplin
Joseph,
