Somerset Aplins/Applins

Dave O'Reilly  (View posts) Posted: 4 Jan 2000 12:09AM GMT
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the web but not new to Aplin/Applin research! My wife's grandmother was Ellen Lavinia Applin who married John Bees in 1920 in Bristol. Her father was William John Applin from Wiverliscombe Somerset born 8.8.1952 and married Susan Ann Sharland 1876. He married twice and fathered about 17 children! He was a stonemason and his father was John Aplin. John Aplin's father was James Aplin and I have census, and card index files for dozens of Somerset Aplins/Applins from the parish registers of Somerset, courtesy of Campbell's index at the Taunton Record Office.
I shall be posting this file on the Applin and Aplin surname site (the spelling changes occur frequently). I will also post messages on the familysearch . com site. I presume the name comes from the welsh prefix "Ap" meaning "son of" Lyn, a popular Welsh male name.
My email address is dtkor@mcmail.com. I have a 3 page file of Aplin info I can post as an attachment.
Hope to meet up with you and swap information -
All the best for 2000 and all that
Dave
