im Aponte from Gurbo,Caguas,Comerio y Aguas Buenas,my greatgrandfather was Sotero Alin Aponte,my granpa was Francisco Aponte, siblings:Angelina Aponte Pomales,Enriqueta Aponte,Pablo Aponte,Juan Aponte,My greatgreatgranpa was Alejo Aponte my geatgranpa used to say that his fam came from Galicia Spain and his father was a "gallego"

I am John Aponte Boas and my father, Manuel Aponte Betancourt is from Trujillo Alto. There are both Perez's and Hernandez's in my line.

Names ending in "ez" are often attributed to Sephardic Jews. As for your great aunt saying your grandfather was Spanish, if he was born prior to the American taking over PR, then he was Spanish. All of my father's grandparents were born Spanish.

Hello, My name is Diana Hernandez Perez and I am from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. I just found out that my Last Names (HERNANDEZ & PEREZ) are Spanish Jewish (Sephardic) but my paternal family is HERNANDEZ APONTE (Which is Galician).

The point is that I my Grandma's (RIP) sister is MARIA APONTE HERNANDEZ told me that their grandfather was Spanish... which is a little curious. Plus names like MARIA, JULIA, BERNANDEZ, SANTOS, DIMA, FELA and other names in my family that sound spanish too.

So if anyone has information from APONTE or HERNANDEZ reply please. I only have until my Grandma's parents

I wonder if you found out any more information about your father? I am also an Aponte through light skinned, blue eyed relatives who immigrated to PR in the late 1700s from what I can tell.
My grandmother, Angela, married Nicomedes Aponte and they lived in Santa Isabel.

My name is Florence and I am in the United States. My maiden name is Aponte. My father is Fernando Aponte and he was originally from the San Juan/ Rio Piedras area of Puerto Rico. My grandfather is Gabriel Aponte and my grandmother is Agrepina Aponte. My stepgrandmother is Salva Aponte.

Fernando's Siblings: Maria, Gabriel, Antonia, Ismael, Noelia and Helen.

I wonder if Nicomedes Aponte y Rivera could be related to Nicolas Aponte? Our family was also fair skinned, blue eyed, auburn haired. Same as what your describe, and yes blondes...maybe there is a connection? I have a family tree started on this site called Mercado de Jesus family tree. The Aponte connection is on the Mercado side as that was my grandmother's last name.

yes my Aponte family are from Comerio,Aguas Buenas and Caguas and it is true that the majority of them have fair colored skin and light eyes. My great grandfather that use to live with us died when he was over 100 years of age, and he use too talk to us and say that he was Gallego and his father was too. He use to talk to us in the language that was spoken in that town. My grandfather also did the same thing. My great grandfather name was Sotero Alin Aponte Serrano his brotheR was Vicente Aponte serrano,My grand father was Francisco Aponte Pomales.

I should add here that my grandmother was from the Canary Islands. I have also looked up the Aponte surname online and it stated that the name originated in Galicia Spain. At times it was written as "D'Aponte" (meaning, "by the bridge").

My great grandfather was Nicomedes Aponte y Rivera, born in 1862 in P.R.. He and my grandmother, Angela Aponte y Santiago lived in Santa Isabel in 1910 and then she moved without him to Coamo Puerto Rico with her son and three daughers by the time the 1920 census was done. Let me know if this rings a bell!

I am looking for info on my grandpas family.I really dont have much to go by since he never spoke of them.He was born around 1928 and moved to NYC when he was 19.He joined the army and then was a merchant marine until he retired.He married Edith Mayoral and had 2 daughters.They moved to Las Vegas in the 80's.

My mom said he had a sister who moved to California in the Santa Clara area I believe.

Hi, I believe I remember you as Sergito from long ago. My name is Jorge Hernandez Caballero. My mother, Blanca Caballero, was your father's first cousin (her father was Juan Caballero, who was your grandmother Haydee's older brother). My brother Ivan and I used to spend many summer vacations at your grandmother and grandfather's house (25 Grillo St.) in Caguas. You were often there with your sisters Alicita and Nildita. I was born in 1951 in Caguas. My mother returned to Caguas in 1999 and lived in both Caguas Norte and Villa Blance until she died in 2006. Is your father still living?
