Classification: Query
Surnames: Appelbaum, Applebaum, Bax
Joseph Appelbaum married Anna Maria Bax on 22 Jan 1825 at Sankt Johannes Baptist Katholische Pfarrkirche, Delbrück, Amt Delbrück, Kreis Paderborn, Regierungsbezirk Minden, Provinz Westfalen, Königreich Preußen. They lived in the town of Ostenland had at least 12 children. At least two of these children moved to the US.

Johann Georg Appelbaum

Born 18 Jul 1831 at Ostenland, Amt Delbrück, Kreis Paderborn, Regierungsbezirk Minden, Provinz Westfalen, Königreich Preußen.

Baptised 18 Jul 1831 at Sankt Johannes Baptist Katholische Pfarrkirche, Delbrück, Amt Delbrück, Kreis Paderborn, Regierungsbezirk Minden, Provinz Westfalen, Königreich Preußen.

Arrived 28 Jan 1852 in New Orleans on the ship "Welker."
Died 10 Jan 1914 in Lee County, Iowa.
Buried in Oakland Catholic Cemetery, Keokuk, Jackson Township, Lee County, Iowa.

Georg and his first wife had approximately 11 children near Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa. One of these children was Lawrence Applebaum (1869-1954) who moved to Saint Louis where he married and later died.

Johann Theodor Appelbaum

Born 3 Jan 1835 at Ostenland, Amt Delbrück, Kreis Paderborn, Regierungsbezirk Minden, Provinz Westfalen, Königreich Preußen.

Baptised 5 Jan 1835 at Sankt Johannes Baptist Katholische Pfarrkirche, Delbrück, Amt Delbrück, Kreis Paderborn, Regierungsbezirk Minden, Provinz Westfalen, Königreich Preußen.

Arrived 8 Nov 1864 at New York on ship "Georg."

I suspect he is the same person who was buried 3 Feb 1903 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Saint Louis City, Missouri. This person married Elisabeth Buchholtz(sp?) and had at least four children in Saint Louis, Missouri. One of these children was Charles Appelbaum (1880-1920).

Notice the different spellings of the two brothers' families. Theodor and his family spelled their name Appelbaum, but Georg and his family spelled their name Applebaum.

I found the information about their birth and emigration from a great book by Heinz Marxkors called "Auswanderer aus dem Ortsteil Ostenland im ehemaligen Kirchspiel Delbrück im ehemaligen Kreis Paderborn in der ehemaligen Provinz Westfalen, im ehemaligen Königreich Preußen: Ausgewandert in die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika." There is an index online at http://www.slcl.org/branches/hq/sc/indexes/marxkors/marxkors...

You will notice in the index that there is a Joseph Appelbaum who emigrated from the parish of Elsen, which is next to the parish of Delbrück. I do not have the Elsen book, so I do not know the birth date of this Joseph Appelbaum. I know there is a Joseph Appelbaum family in Saint Louis and another Joseph Appelbaum family in Lee County, Iowa. Joseph Appelbaum from Elsen could be either of these, or he may have gone somewhere else.
