George APPLEBEE origins

Hi all

I'm trying to break down a 'wall' in my tree. I'm looking for the origins of a George APPLEBEE born around 1840/1841 in Berkshire - Census & marriage data give various birth locations at Binfield, Reading & Wokingham! His marriage certificate (m. 1865 to Sarah WATERS in Wiltshire) gives his Father as James APPLEBEE. There is no Civil Reg record that fits him - Can anyone help with locating a baptism record?

Best Regards

Richard

Hi

Did you happen to find any old pictures of any of those Applebee's you mention ? Thomas Applebee is my GG Grandfather born 1796 in Milton near Acton Maine.
He moved to Jefferson married a Sarah Stalbird from Whitefield N H. I don't think this Thomas from RI is the same one. Their is another Thomas buried at Milton's Applebee Cemetary.
William Ivins Appleby (NJ, Utah 1800s) genealogy write-up

William Ivins Appleby was an early elder in the Mormon Church, having traveled from NJ to Salt Lake twice in the mid-1800s. In his "Autobiography and Journal of William I. Appleby", dated (started) July 6th, 1848, he gives some summary information about his siblings, with the footnote: "I will given their names, and the names of my kindred, together with their genealogy, as far as acquainted with in their proper place, and time."

This genealogy is not included in his Autobiography and Journal, which is reposited at the LDS Church Library. The church librarian has told me the church does not have it. Does this genealogy exist, and if so, where?
Is anyone out there still working on the Benjamin Applebee parentage mystery? My husband is a descendant of Benjamin > Henry > John Lewis > etc. Still trying to determine who Benjamin Sr's father was, and which birth date is actually his. Benjamin Sr's son, Rev. Benjamin Applebee, kept a diary of sorts that gives some specific information on his father and mother Elizabeth Ghoist, yet the birth date differs from info on Ben Sr's tombstone, and differs as well from the information that many out there have included in their trees. I would love to exchange info and discuss thoughts.
mca@gotsky.com

Hi Floyd,
It was so exciting to get your message. I am not sure how this piece of the puzzle fits the Henry that Married Amanda Yetter on Dec. 28, 1848. He was the Father of Arvilla Ann Applebee. Was he the same that enlisted in Union Army 14 March 1865? Arvilla or Arvillia (census) was born in LaHarpe Township accoring to her death certificate.
She married Thomas May and moved to Jewell Co. KS. Those are the only things I know. One census gives Ohio and one PA as where he was from before this.
Yes, I will be eager to hear more information. I hope the way I wrote this is not more confusing. Pat

Carol,
Wow it's been awhile since Ilooked at this family!
My husband is the Applebee.
I am confused and impressed by your research on your property.

OK--The Benjamin I'm looking for was born in NH per his report on census of 1850 in Fulton Co IL.
His age is stated as 65, making him b. 1785, I've also seen 1776 used. He maried a Catherine ?Ghoist, this name has been spelled many ways and may be a maried name?
Your Ben, Mercy and children don't include him. My Ben went to Ohio, and died in IL. Perhaps my Ben is a son of Zebedee?

Do you have his children or spouse?

Now I'm back on this line!!!!!

Hey did you come across any SHELLEY, SWIFT or MCARTHUR info? It seems a lot of my lines came out of NH. Ironically I lived in Milford, NH and went to Laconia area to water ski back in the late 1960's as a child.

Talk about small world.

Any way feel free to e-mail me direct- pkapple@yahoo.com
I'll let you know if I find anything, maybe I can pick your brain for ideas to research my other lines as well.

Paula

Benjamin Applebe is on the first census of the United States 1790 in Grafton county, Franconia

Well....let me see. Our Benjamin Applebe is on the first census of the United States 1790 here n Grafton county-Franconia. In 1785 would maybe have been Nathan Applebee who is Ben's date. Looks like he was born ABT 1785 but the wife is unknown. Two children were NN Applebee and Mary Applebee. I did come up with Nathan Applebee with a DOB of 1837 who was on the 1850 Lisbon Township. My Ben was born 15 September 1771 in Providence, R.I. and married Mercy Sly. His borth Emor applebee hada son Ben but I don't have DOB. Emor was born 1780 so that math dont work for you. I'm not finding the name Catherine Ghoist anywhere. Did you try the spelling on the web of appleby? Probably. I'm new at this game but learning name variations. I'ts great to hear from someone. I've never done this before. We can track the deeds here if that helps to 1803. At that tim we know that Ben lived in the house with most of famiy. We know that Hibbard of Bath sold this house at aucution for taxes of (get this) $1.50 that Arron Hibbard bought it for $1.50 and same day sold to Benjamin. But Benjamin was living here as stated in the deed. So...we need to dig further. I think it was a land grand under mad King George the 3rd.

Carol,

My best guess is that my Ben is most likely a cousin of your Emor and Nathan and Ben.

Do you have any info on Zebedee? or on Isial, probably Isreal.
These 3 (Ben, Zeb, and Isial) are all on the 1800 census.

I did a search for Zebedee, and found the Fraconia Inn is built on property that originally belonged to Zebedee!

Have you ever checked for probate records? They usually contain property bequethed as well. Usually they are on the county court level the same as deeds.
Just a thought to trace your land and the descendents of the three men.

I also found where 3 Appleby's -Ben, Zebedee and Thomas maried 3 Sly women in Worchester County MA c 1770's.
Zeb was "of Smithfeild" RI.

Talk soon
Paula

Hi again. I have about 30 inches of paper here. I have the three brothers who married the three sisters and thought it was great. It's the Sly Sisters. I did know about the Franconia Inn. Actually Zeb's house in an old photo is almost the same as mine. So they were next door neighbors being that the Franconia Inn is down my driveway and to the left about 5 minute walk. I'll be more than happy to share what I have. The Applebee Monument is down the street as well in the old cemetary. When the snow clears I'll venture in. Ben and Zeb are on the first census of NH 1790. I really think it was a land grant from Governor Bennington and am going down that trail. Will advise.
This is a bit addictive. I feel like I'm looking at the answer but can't find it. Went through the old barn looking for clues as well. Did sent out three letter this morning to Concord. Lots of historical societies and the State Library has all the old documents. Our town hall seems to have had a fire so lots of information back in the day was lost. Have a great day.

Three Applebee - Sly marriages

Hi again. This is getting fascinating. Yes the three sly women married the three applebee brothers. Zebedee Applebee lived down the road from us in what is now the Franconia Inn. I have a xerox of his house (which looks somewhat like our house). Zebedee's house burned. What we uncovered in Concord is all the town meeting records which were held at Zebedee's house which also doubled as a tavern. Emor was my Ben's son born 30 March 1789 who married Sara Judd, Franconia.

In Franconia (as the rest of NH, Vt. NH) the land was under the British Crown. There were agents in the towns to oversee the land for the crown. Then the Indian wars came, and trouble with Gov. Benning Wentworth. The land was granted to one group first, the Bennings nephew became governor and re-granted the land (have the lists) then the NH Legislature was formed, re-granted the land to the original list. This get rather complicated (which is what we have mostly been working on) The deal is if you were here you got 100 acreas if you cleared. It is our understanding at this point....that the Applebee's arrived, staked their land (which was not deeded to them or granted) and stayed put.

Now....my Benjamin Applebee was married to mercy Sly 1771. Their children were David, Justice, Deliah, James, Emor, Polly, Minot and Josiah Kelsey. Deliah married Bruckminister Drury

Now...Mercy Sly married Benjamin, Patience Sly married John Applebee, and Joanna Sly married Xebedee Applebee.

You may be duplicating info I'm sitting on and more than happy to share. I think we're in the same boat.....only I'm back in the day.

Hi...Ireland heh? Don't think we have a match. I think these Applebe's came from England. Haven't proven that yet. I was however at the archives office of State of NH this past week, and there was one deed from 1738 which I xeroxed for Thomas Appleby of N=Cafsle in N=Hamps fisherman. I am thinking this is New Castle in New Hampshire. We have been thinking that James is Benjamin Appleby's father. They came to NH from Rhode Island however.

I am seeking information on the Applebee families in Tallmadge, OH circa 1880-1940. Specifically, I'm looking for information on Charles, Anne Boyce (his wife), George, Thomas, and Ellen (all children). Ellen is my 2nd Great Grandmother. Any information on any other Applebee families in this area would also be welcome. I have the information from the 1880 census, but any other info would be helpful.
Thank you,
Richard Walters
waltersfamilytree@juno.com
