I wonder if there is anyone who might be able to read/translate to English, if I email or fax to you copies of the originals?
Thanks very much, Janet
PS I have tried a computer translator however am unable to get the full meaning/all the words....

Re: Gust Apsitis

Hi Gus,
My grandfather has recently passed away and he was Modrins Apsitis. He never told his family anything about his past, but he was on the first boat of refugees into australia post-war in 1947. He was born on Nov 10 1927, but where he was born we're unsure. He was very well educated and spoke Latvian, German, Russian and English fluently. His family had a large estate in eastern Latvia and we know his father was a lawyer and was most likely the minister for justice (but there are few facts available to back this up). We've recently found his mother was an Estonian academic and published works. We also know his father re-married a Swedish woman at somepoint (perhaps because his mother died?)and that he didn't get along with his step-sisters. I know there aren't very many Apsitis' about, but do you know if perhaps your Gust is a relative of mine? We have some of grendad's journal, but they're mostly in Latvian - so until we find a Latvian linguist their contents will remain a mystery. Any info you know of would be most welcome.
Regards, Simone

Looking for Reinis Kulins 1923 Rembate Latvia

Looking for Reinis Kulins 1923 Rembate Latvia

My father, Otto Voldermars Kulins, is searching for his brother, Reinis Kulins. Reinis was born May 15th 1923 in Rembate region of Riga near Lielvarde. The family farm was called "Negas." The parents of Reinis were Otto and Emma (Apsitis) Kulins who both stayed at the farm all their lives and are buried in a cemetery near there.

At the age of 19, Reinis was forced to join the Latvian Legion, 19th / 15th division. He was injured in Volhov (Volkhov) swamps, Russia. He was last seen alive by a family friend (Janis Antuns) in April 1945 in the Pomerania region of Germany when separated from the military unit. Reinis wore glasses and had a "lazy" eye.

Any information at all is gratefully appreciated.
