POW/MIA Korean War, APT

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Henrico County Virginia as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: DAVID GOODWIN APT
Born: Jan. 11, 1932, Caucasian
Date of loss: November 21, 1950, Killed in Action (KIA)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Apt family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Re: Oley Apt. My first husband was Walter Raymong Apt, son of Glenn Apt. Glenn often mentioned his cousin Oley, and Buffalo, KS.
Glenn was the son of John Wesley Apt, and grandson of Samuel H.G.Apt and Elizabeth Brandt. Some information about the family, down to Glenn, was in the book "The Pound and Kester Families", author forgotten by me.
In fact, I believe Glenn mentioned that he bought the cemetery plot in Littleton, CO when his brother Fay died, "because the cemetery at Buffalo was all used."

Teresa - I have found Malcolm in the 1900 Census living with Julia Apt Oliver, her husband Emery, her (I believe)step-mother and her brother Lewis. You are probably some sort of cousin of mine because Malcolm's father was my gggrandfather. My grandmother was Kathleen Elenor (Cassie) Apt. The family lived in Eastport, Maine. The death certificate info on this board is, I believe for Daniel Apt, Sr. so if you print out that information it will give you somewhere to look. If you will email me at Bobbiespann@yahoo.com I will send you the census sheets for 1900, 1920 and 1930. If I have time I will also look at 1910 - these should give you something to go on. Keep plugging away - glad you didn't wait until you were a grandmother like me. Bobbie

Help on finding my great grandma's name please?

Hi,
I'm new to this whole board posting thing. Well, I've been trying to do a family tree for the past 4 years (I'm 16, I'm wanting to do this for me and my mom and my children when I have kids). I know bits and pieces of my family history, but I do know where half my family originated from and where my mom's family settled. They settled in Maine (what part I don't know) My grandma's maiden name is Apt, and I don't know the name of her mother or her father, as for her birth certificate it got burned in a fire in the court house where she was born. And she has also been through shock therapy when she was younger so her memory isn't that good. I know that my grandma's mother's maiden name was Crompton, but I don't know first names. So I'm trying hard to find my grandma's birth certificate. I know the names of her brother's and sisters. If anyone could help me it would greatly be appreciated.

Hi, my last name is Apts, but I don't know of anyone named Daniel H. Apts in our family tree. I've also been trying to search for other family that I may not know of. I'm 19 and my father is Phil Apts and my uncle is Charles Apts, their father was Elo Carl Apts and his father was Charles Apts, he was my great grandfather and he was born in Germany and moved to the United States with his family at the age of 5. Hopefully some of these names sound familiar

Hi, Deanna. I think have some information on
your family. There is a headstone at Forest
City Cemetery in South Portland, Maine:

Daniel Apt 1840 to 1917
Wife Sarah 1851 to 1908
Daughter Lillian B. 1894 to 1912

In addition to the 12 children you list, I
have noted another son but no name. Addison
also had the name George, and George's second
name was Daniel. I have some spouses names,
and a few birthdates, if you are interested
in comparing info.

Pat

George Apt - NS/ Maine

Hi Ivory,

Nice to hear from you.
I do have a George Apt that disappeared from
Nova Scotia with his wife (nee Thomas) and
a few young children ca 1815-1820. I have
always thought he was the origin of the
Maine Apt's, but I've never been able to
prove it. I did hear from a man in Wisconsin
who says he descended from this same George
Apt, and that all George's son's had Thomas
as their second name. They stayed in Maine
for a while then his branch moved to Wisconsin.
Does any of this sound familiar to you?
If so, please contact me again. I don't have
my records here (at work) but if you'd like
I'll get what I have on him for you.
For your info, my disappearing George was the
son of George senior (Johann Georg Abt),who
was a Hessian soldier who fought for the
British in the American Revolution. After
the war, the soldiers were given the choice
of being returned home or accepting British
land grants in Canada. J. Georg settled on
land in NS that is still today called the
Hessian and Waldeck Lines. The name changed
from Abt to Apt, and 4 of his 5 sons stayed
in NS for several generations.
I have copies of Georg's original will and
I have a birth record for George junior, who
was born on a military ship in 1780 (courtesy
of Mr. Mertz, who speaks german and has done
extensive research on the Hessian soldiers in
North America).
Well, that's it for now. Hope to hear from
you soon.

Pat

Well, Ivory, it looks like this Daniel is
my tie to NS! Thanks for putting the info
in your message.

It may say "Thompson" as his mother's
maiden name, but she was married in NS as
Elizabeth (Betsy) Thomas, daughter of
William Thomas, United Empire Loyalist(I'll
have to check this name in my records).
I have their marriage date and place, and the
birth of their first few children. Then the
family disappears after the death of Georg,
senior in 1814.

If you would like to correspond my email
is ptanner@clc-ctc.ca. If you send me a
mailing address, I will send you copies
of everything I have on Daniels' parents
and grandparents. I hope you will share
whatever you have on Daniel's family and
descendents. I would love to have a copy
of the death certificate for my records.

I look forward to hearing from you at
ptanner@clc-ctc.ca!

Sea-going Apts

Hi, Michael.

I have corresponded with your aunt, Dorothy,
a few years ago.

I am unaware of any other Apts that still
work the waters; I was surprised to hear that
you did!

My husband's great grandfather, John
Davenport Apt, was a well known sea captain
from Nova Scotia, who also fished the Grand
Banks. There is a large silver cup, called
the Brittainy Cup, in the Nova Scotia Museum
of the Sea in Halifax. He won it three years
running (ca1910) in a race between Nova Scotia
and Marblehead, Mass. After the 3rd win, they
retired the Cup and presented it to him. It
was donated to the Museum by his daughter who
recently passed away in Salem, Mass. There
is a book written by Wallace called "The
Roving Fisherman". One half the book is
written about Capt. John Apt and his sailing
life.

I'd like to talk to you further about your
family's genealogy.
Kathleen Elenor Apt and Barron Brodine

Thought I would share a story with you all that I got from my cousin. It seems Cassie (Kathleen) had some brothers who were running a dinner-theater in Revere Beach, MA and she went to holiday with them. There she met Barron William Godfred Brodine who was an artist painting sets for her brothers. They fell in love and either married (can't prove it yet) or lived together and had six children. Her family did not approve of the match and apparently they lost contact with them. It is said that Kathleen was very beautiful and was the model for the woman on the Schraffs candy box and that he was the artist that painted them. Thoght this was a beautiful story and after looking up Revere Beach I can see what a romantic place it must have been around 1910. Do any of you decendents of Danile Apt know the name of the dinner-theater and which brothers it was who ran it? Thanks, Bobbie
