HI, My name is also Aquino from lares, puerto rico. I can give you names of my family members mostly all from lares, and maybe there is a common thread. The name Aquino is not a very common spanish name,so there has to be a connection somewhere.
Aquino from Cochin, Bangalore, Hubli in India

My grandmother,Lavinia Aquino married John Nicholas Curtis in Hubli or Cochin. They were a railway family. Monica Curtis lived in Vypeen, India. I have a letter dated 1902. She was my great grand mother. I am looking for anyone who know of them, or is a relative. The Curtis family was large and they married into the Oliver, Scolt and Fanderlinden families.I think my greatgrand mother was Monica Anna Oliveiro or Oliver.

I don't think we are from the same family - our relatives came from Cosenza, Italy. I will keep you in mind if I find anything closer to your family records.

yes. Both my grandfather and his brother Nicholas came to the US from Italy. My grandfather, Joseph Paul Aquino, was about 3 years older than Nicholas. He was born March 24, 1898 in Castle Forte, Italy. So Nicholas would have been born in about 1901. My grandfather was about 4 years old and Nicholas @ 1 year old when they came to the US (in around 1902). They had a least two older sisters in Italy. My grandfather worked for the Sanitation Dept. in NY before going to Florida. He and my grandmother were married in Bronx, NY in 1916. They had 5 children together (Thomas- died at 2), Mary, Carmine (my dad whose name changed to Thomas), Theodora (aka Dorothy) and Camille. They separated but never divorced. Joseph then lived with his girlfriend, Dora, who was his common law wife in Florida. They had no children. He then died of a heart attack in June 1962 in the Bronx, NY. My grandmother also changed the last name Aquino to Arquina.

I don't believe so because he immigrated from Italy in the late 1800's/early 1900's. He did have a grandson named Micholas. Maybe if you give me some more information/names it would help.

My grandfather, Anthony (Antonio) Altomare had a sister named Maria (Mary) Altomare who married a Nick Aquino. I know they lived in California. I don't know if he had a brother, Joseph but I know that Nick Aquino had a son, Joe, who owned a welding shop in Dearborn, Michigan. If so, we are related.
Hi,
According to my research Filiberto and Angelita had two children. Concepcion Franco born on 12/8/1914 died on 2/16/1916 in Tucson, Az and Filiberto Franco Jr. born 7/20/1916 died on 3/26/1917 in Tucson. Unless the family had more children, I can't find any evidence, there are no decendents for Angelita Escalante Franco. At first I couldn't Concepcion's death certificate. I later found it under Cohonita Franco in the Genealogy.Az.Gov records. Hope this helps.

Hi! I just saw this post...My father is Thomas Aquino...his name changed to Thomas Arquina when he was young. He was actually born Carmine Aquino. His father was Joe Aquino and his mother was called CB. You are mentioning very familiar names. My grandfather, Joe, also had a brother Nicholas. I don't know much more. Joe came to Ellis Island as a baby. He was born in the late 1800's, He was married to my grandmother, they had four children together (My dad, Mary, Camille and Dorothy (AKA Theodora)) I know he then remarried. He died in the early 1960'.s (lived in Florida at the time but was waked in New York) Does any of this sound familiar? Do you have more info?

Aquino and Aguirre relatives

My grandmother, Ysabel Escalante Hernandez, was married to a Jesus Quintero before she married my grandfather. My dad had two half-siblings, brother Federico Quintero, who died at a young age and sister Juana Quintero who married a Trinidad Aguirre. Juana was born in Arizona and had children: Esperanza, Juan, Jesus, Ysabel, Francisca and Federico also born in Arizona. I believe Trinidad and Juana Aguirre moved to California. Esperanza Aguirre was born 8/21/1921, married someone by the last name of Aquino. She died in California on 9/24/83. I am looking for anyone who might know anything about our relatives. Please e-mail me at pinacolada_lg@hotmail.com if you can help.

Thank you for your reply. My husbands father is Felipe Aquino-Hernandez born October 15, 1942 I believe. So that makes him about 61 years old. He is still living in Monterrey N.L. Mexico. He is the son of Clemente Aquino and Juana Hernandez. I thought he was born in Oaxaca, but not certain. He did marry my mother-in-law, Dominga Morales-Garcia (born 8/5/1941 in La Villa De Etla, Oaxaca. Daughter of Feliciano Morales-Perez and Felipa Garcia-Nava). What I do know is that he has brothers and sisters. Not sure of names. He went to live with my mother-in-laws family when he was about 14 or 15 yrs old. Together they had 6 sons and 5 daughter. All daughters have died. They married sometime in the 1970's....before their 7th or 8th child was born. I know that their is still family in Oaxaca.
I am aware that Aquino seems to be a popular name in the Oaxaca area. However, I am also aware that it is not a traditional Mexican name. I am also aware that my father-in-law was not always faithful in his relationship with my mother-in-law. This seems so strange to have so many matches with a few differances. My husband and I live in Wisconsin, USA. We are planning a summer vacation to vistit family in Mexico. Possibly even in Oaxaca. Please stay in touch so we can see if there is a connection here.

When the catholic missionaries began converting the western world, priests would often make natives give up their name and take that of a saint's. St. Thomas Aquinas is a direct descendant of the Italian Aquino family. Many, many mexican, south American, and philipinos took that name: Aquino.

Dear Joe, My grandmother was an Aquino and she was born in Cellera, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. Aquino is a very common name in Calabria and probably in most of Italy. Since your ancestors were born in Calabria, you may want to join il circolo calabrese. This is a group of mostly Americans interested in geneaology and int the Calabrian heritage. If you are interested I will give you the site. I have found it very helpful and have learned a lot about my family and about Calabria. Ellen Fera

He lived in Simi Valley, California when he married my biological mother, Jeaneta Inez in 1970, when she was 16 and he was 21. I was born on October 9, 1970. Last known whereabouts is New York, NY. I'm not necessarily looking for my father, but am more interested in any 1/2 siblings, aunts, uncles, or cousins I may have.

Yes, I know that Aquino is not a Mexican name in origin. My husband grew up in Yuta where I am learning, is very common. It is also common in other small countries that were conqured by the Spanish. This is most likly why when you she someone with the name Aquino, you can not pint point the country in which they are from. My husband is of Mexican/Indian heritage. It is very interesting though. I am trying to trace back to who brought the name to Mexico. There the male is the first last name. And it is the male who is carring the name in my husbands family. However, I only have back to his grandfathers name. I hope when I have my father-in-lawa birth record translated that I will obtain more information. There in Yuta, Oaxaca, the older the record the more room for error.

Aquino marriages to Gagnon family

I am looking for any information on a Marie Delima, wife of Louis Gagnon. Marie Delima has been shown different ways on various records. She has been shown as Mary Delina and Mary Italien. I do not know when Marie Delima and Louis Gagnon were married nor do I know anything of Marie Delima's parentage. I do have some of their children:

Children of Louis Gagnon and Marie Delima

1. Zoe Gagnon (also known as Souce Gagnon and Susan Gagnon), daughter of Louis Gagnon and Mary Delina. Married 7 January, 1845 to Anthony Deschamps at St. Raphael, Glengarry County, Ontario

2. Alfred Gagnon, son of Louis Gagnon and Marie Delina. Married 19 June, 1860 to Sophie Aquin(Aquino?) at Nativity B.V.M., Williamstown, Ontario. (Alfred Gagnon may have remarried Caroline Norman in St. Lawrence County, New York...I haven't proved this yet).

3. Joseph Gagnon, son of Louis Gagnon and Marie Delima. Married Philomene Payement on 16 August, 1859 at Nativity B.V.M., Williamstown, Ontario

4. Clarisse Gagnon, daughter of Louis Gagnon and Marie Delima. Married Joseph Aquin(Aquino?) on 8 August, 1860 at Nativity B.V.M., Williamstown, Ontario

5. Sophia Gagnon, daughter of Louis Gagnon and Mary Italien. Married to Joseph Massia on 17 July, 1849 at St. Raphael, Glengarry County, Ontario

6. Larose Gagnon, daughter of Louis Gagnon and Mary Delina. Married to Joseph Noel on 27 May, 1845 at St. Raphael, Glengarry County, Ontario

I would be interested in knowing the parentage of Marie Delima or the parentage of Louis Gagnon. I am descended through Zoe / Susan Gagnon, my g.g.g. grandmother.
